Ping PLD Custom Program

I think people might have already done this earlier in the thread, but I can’t remember where exactly. Could anyone with a patina putter show how it looks after a couple seasons or few rounds of use? And how the tungsten plugs look in the patina finish?

Dumb question but what is this putter incorrectly labeled in this email from 2nd swing as a Oslo 3?

 

Looks like a long neck anser of some sort is this available OTR or is it only through this program?

I submitted payment on 1/29 and it is now in queue for final assembly (shafting, gripping, cleaning up paint fill). Approximately 1-2 weeks until completion!

Checking in on this thread almost two years after it was created. The amazing thing is, I am still gaming my PLD, i have not switched to anything else in those two years. Have bought and sold a few wall hangers, but gamer remains the same.

Man, what a beaut. I paid on 1/30 so hoping to hear something soon on my Patina Anser 30! I emailed Alex about a week ago and swapped the PP58 Cord to a Super Stroke 2.0 PT and they found me a black one that was never sold at retail. Pretty excited!

You could always refer to Viktor's WITB for a look at a "not super well kept" patina finish. This is how I plan on letting mine get, but some people want no rust. If so, stainless is the way. As far as the plugs, tungsten won't really take the color/finish of the patina process and they will always stick out, which I also like. I'm sure there's more well-worn pictures out there.

See I don't like the super patchy patina look, Hovland isn't too bad but look at Sam Bennett who basically has a rust bucket or Wilco Nienaber who I'm pretty sure just had a raw head and let it go crazy. 

 

I like to oil my carbon heads and let them patina to a dark brown. I've had 1 carbon head do that perfectly and trying to get another one to eventually get there. Definitely a subjective look depending on what someone wants to do.

I don't think i'll let mine look like an oil can, but i'm definitely not going to baby it and not treat it like a putter haha. I requested the super dark patina so I don't think it'll get too patchy unless i'm scraping it on sandy greens all day which I don't plan on doing. I may end up buying an exact copy of my putter down the road in stainless depending on how I get on with this one. The addiction never ends haha

I get that the Ping Patina finish is their nicest finish, I was seriously considering changing to that finish but opted to stick with glazed donut on stainless for various reason. If I was to get another it would be Patina but I'd keep it quenched with oil for the most part but that's how I like mine.

Here are some pics, there are a few specs of dirt on it that i should have cleaned off. overall, still in really good condition, but i've also taken care of it.

Thanks. I keep the finish looking good by using food grade silicone spray. I also take the headcover off after every round to ensure the putter is fully dry of all moisture.

just had a chance to roll these and I'm very impressed. Didn't know how big the ally blue was going to be and it's exactly as I'd hoped - kind of spider x size roughly. Feel is sublime. Was thinking I'd do full custom to get a plumbers neck but I was draining everything in stock setup.

The Ally Blue is nice.  Agree w/ @JourdanM; wasn’t sure what the size was going to be, but it specs out size and shape close to the Phantom 11/11.5 to me.  It looks good.
 

It’s feels nice…. perhaps little firmer than others, but I think that’s mostly due to the 370g.  It’s heavy.  But, it’s not a tank.  
 

The distance control and forgiveness is special.

Amen, it's so good. Asked Alex at Ping if there was much we could do on a custom one, and bless his heart, he said he'd recommend going with the PLD + if I wanted to customize it at all. Pretty nice to not be pressured into a sale.

Just completed my iPing session and have my fitting on march 4th, beyond excited to get this putter ordered? Can anybody tell me how much of the fitting focuses on aiming with different models based on your dominant eye? I have my eyes set on either prime tyne or anser 2d and its hard to judge when going to local store to see how i aim them.

Sorry if this is already posted somewhere…Wondering if theres any patina-like finish that wont rust. I love the look of the patina but hate rust. Scheduled for a fitting in a couple weeks, looking forward to it.

All I do with mine is wipe it with my towel if it’s wet coming off the green and leave the headcover off when it’s in the closet between rounds and it hasn’t been an issue. 
I bought a can of the dry silicone spray they recommended but never used it. 
I’ll try to get a picture during my round tomorrow of how it looks now

Yup, I treat it like any other of my oil can/black ox/similar finish putters.  Wipe it dry often after putting, keep it dry.

Gasp, Scotty oil cloth after every round as well.  I also do use the silcone spray semi routinely, but more during times it won't be played for a bit

Thanks. Way more torn over what finish to choose than the putter head itself. Want something thats gonna look like new for years, but can’t deny how good the patina looks.

I would avoid patina at all costs then tbh, if that's the goal.

I think the point of patina is to age some over time, and no matter what, it won't stay looking new

it's a coating, and it will show wear no matter what.  To me that looks cool.

 

I think a lot of folks get pulled into patina, or other finishes like oil can in Camerons, but don't really how much care it takes, or that it will age over time.  If a like new finish forever is what you're looking for, resist the urge.

 

But yah, I think these types of finishes are awesome, and the feel is great.

Satin or glazed doughnut most likely on stainless, Oyster will wear.

 

You can always ask them, they have a few other finishes people have gotten done as well.
