Standing over partners through line. Who cares?

Courteous behaviour should always prevail.

Yes this is the right thinking. If someone has a thing about people stepping on their through line takes absolutely minimal effort to not do it.

I don't care about it, but if someone asked me to do it, I would have no issue complying.

*should* is the key word.

Unfortunately, it does not exist in modern golf.

I played 9 today after work, and luckily snagged a tee time in back of a 3 some (high school kids) who have never played or swung a stick in their lives.

Etiquette says they should let faster players play through but, nope. They weren't taught that part of the game. And more and more will not in the future.

Even the guys I played with today were stepping in my line and they were 30 years my senior. I'm over it.

Help guide them to better behavior.  If not us, then who will do it?

Let’s get real here.  There probably 3 other ball on the green at different angles to the cup when I bend down to pick up my ball

Does it seem pretty simple to not step in anyone’s through line?  Plus the intended line to the cup.  That’s six lines 360 degrees around the cup to avoid

That's it. I'm never taking my ball out of the hole until everyone else has putted out.

I heard this same thing quite often when I was a kid learning to play in the 60s.  LOL some things never change, I am sure that folks in Scotland in the 1870s were saying the same about the new generation of golfers.

I think that most people new to golf want to play the game the right way and when someone points out the correct behavior they are glad to comply.

What is that? What is the "right way"? Is it not stepping on a through line or is it not stepping on a putting line? It is playing serious or playing for fun? Is it for money or for joy?

I fall in the understanding that, I'll play my own game until it inconveniences you with a side of basic golf etiquette. Furthest away has the shot, best score  on the hole prior to has the box, don't step on the putt line, etc. etc. etc. but, here, in SoCAL, you have both sides of the field and it's becoming more and more divided.

Does anyone really get bother when I step on playing competitors  through line when I pick up the ball from the cup.   I’m sure it happens all the time.
Anyone heard complaints about this?

edit (  the through line  is the other players line past the hole)

Wouldn't care in the least. I'm making MY putt, and honestly, unless I have a 10 footer, you can walk across my line to get to your ball. There are enough variations in the green that it doesn't matter in the least.

I won't do it if I can avoid it.

But if I happen to do so, you have to figure several others have previously done so throughout the course of the day.

There's a reason Pelz devoted the time and ink on the 'lumpy donut".

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

No.  But the problem I have is guys walking across my through line (past the whole or behind where I’m putting from) WHILE I am making a putting stroke.  That ticks me off to no end.

Imagine what those college/NBA basketball players have to go through when they are about make a free throw

Playing at the opposing teams arena and the other teams fans in the stands behind the hoop are waving and shaking those streamers at the player who are about to make a free throw

Yes.   But Rules of Basketball don’t have a Chapter 1 entitled, “Etiquette.”

I admit I get jumpy (which got worse about 12 years ago - kind of received a death threat - long story I won’t/can’t share here, but not golf related).

Even so,  fan noise starts before the player even goes to the line. And the fans aren’t a putters’ length away from the shooter.

The lumpy donut refers to the 6" or so radius around the cup, not 5 feet past the hole.
