IMO, what is asinine is criticizing a guy for not being a 'family' man when you have absolutely NO idea what is best for his family. Has Meredith called you and told you how disappointed she is that Scottie is playing this tournament? How do you know that she didn't in fact ENCOURAGE him to play? My wife absolutely would have, AND I actually do family counseling with couples/families. It is simply ludicrous to think you know what is best for the Schefflers in this instance. Money has nothing to do with it. Scottie is known to be a hard worker. Work is good. With such a tight-knit family, it is quite likely that there is nothing else that he needs to be doing at this point other than waiting, so just sitting at home probably accomplishes nothing for them. 

 

Bottom line, not one of us has any reason to believe that he is in any way being neglectful toward his wife. Have you seen them interact? Every indication is that theirs is a healthy relationship from what I've seen.

Let me put it another way,  if I was in Scottie's shoes, I would have taken this privilege - a privilege that he has earned, to be by my wife as I already know that there isn't really any significant reason to participate in this tourney that isn't even a major. 

 

The rest of us working stiffs don't even have this privilege and yet he keeps saying that family is his #1 priority and not golf. 

 

He is an exceptional golfer but trying to pass off himself as a family man first is obviously not true.

Hot take. Scottie just said in his post round interview that when him and his wife made his schedule this year they did it around the due date. As long as the baby didn’t arrive early, they both knew he would be playing this week.

Not true. He wouldn't be fined at all. Playing in any of the signature (f/k/a designated) events is not required, per the PGA Tour, of any player starting this year. It looks like Scottie is going to take a well-deserved break after all and will be staying home for a while...

 

I'm going to give him an A+ on his report card for his golf performance, an A++ for breadwinner skillset but just a C- for his family man skills as he had admitted himself that he failed to fix  some long-standing issues at home but more importantly, failed to get the nursery completed. 

 

I salute Scottie for being transparent about these things so perhaps he should just say that golf is my # 1 priority next time he wins which I think will be very soon again and I'll be fine with that.
