Minimalist bag members-carry a driver or is longest distance club something else?

Probably can't hurt to try. There are a ton of 12-14* drivers on the used sites from the mid 2010s that are $100-$150. It just can be hard to find a non senior or regular shaft in them. I am a big fan of the Cleveland Classic XL (has one of the deepest faces you have ever seen) from that era.

The Hi-Bore XLS is one as well

That was kind of my cautionary tale from fitting

My issue was that my fitter tried to change my swing during the fitting and I was too deferential.  He told me to tee it lower (than I was comfortable with) and told me not to worry about the negative AOA I was coming at the ball with as a result of the lower tee height.  I'm adaptable enough that I was able to make that swing work in the fitting, but of course that's not how I'm going to play on the course.  I tee it high, hit up on it 3-4* and deloft my driver (and most of my clubs) fairly aggressively, and those matchups work great - just not with an already low lofted driver.

I'll never let a fitter try to tell me to do something different from what I'm going to do on the course.  Looking back on it, I actually think what he did was pretty egregious, even if it worked out in the long run.

I do not currently carry a driver , I carry and bring 8 to 10 clubs in a Sunday bag.

I'm hitting fairways and keeping the ball in play like never before taking the hybrids off the tee. This past weekend it backfired on me as I was less aggressive than usual with my 2nd shot and my chipping was off so I scored very high but that was an outlier from my recent results.

I'd rather go for the green from the fairway from 170-180 on a 380 to 400 yard par 4  then try to bomb off the tee and lose the ball out of bounds or into a hazard.

I haven't worked out the kinks with the 17 degree hybrid completely but when I am hitting it well I am hitting it every bit as far as a 2 or 3 wood. The 21 degree hybrid put the ball in play very consistently for me.

I use a Maltby 21 degree HyWay utility in my "cabin" Sunday bag.  I carry that, a 5hybrid, 6i, 8i, PW and putter.

I rarely score worse than my league rounds with a full bag.

On Ebay it makes sense to just buy the driver head to keep the cost of shipping low.  It can be expensive to ship a driver as the length may trigger high shipping charges.

You may already have a suitable shaft if you stick to the same brand as the driver you already play.

I'd suggest putting something on your watch list while you do research on stuff like hosel adapter compatibility.

Sure, you may lose the item but there is bound to be another one.  Some sellers will offer a discount to interested buyers so watch your messages.

When I play minimalist, which is happening more and more, I carry Driver (11*), Hybrid (23*), 5, 7, 9, PW (48*), SW (58*), P.  It's nice to stick 8 clubs in a Sunday bag and go.

There is absolutely nothing that is secure in my minimalist bag, especially the driver. To me, minimalism is taking a course you know and forcing yourself into different looks that require more creative shot making. So if that's the case, then why start every hole the same way I would with a 14 club set?

Rounds where I play a short set are more about having fun than posting a score anyways, so if I'm going big stick it'll be a persimmon wood. It forces me to play the course with a completely different outlook and approach, which is what I'm after. The beauty of it all though, is that there's no "right" answer. Just have fun and play whatever you're feeling that day.

Does that count as a service animal? Cause if it does, I don't think the course can say no ... and I'm checking out Craig's List for "used goats" tomorrow morning.

Yes.

Typically Driver, 24* hybrid, 7 thru PW, 54* wedge and a putter.  But I'll really only play this bag for 9 holes.  Only 18 holes if this bag was in the car and I'm getting 18 in late after work.

Pretty much the same set up.  Will admit my home course is shortish so this bag brings everything I will ever need.

yes, Craig's List = "used", a top of the line goat dealer = "pre-owned" with a 100 point service check.

Another thread talked about the lure of a minimalist bag. For members who have a minimalist bag (less than 10?), do you carry a driver?

Yep.  I figure that a long tee club is a necessity with a minimalist bag.  I try to space the entire bag 8*-10*.
