Yeah but then you have to think, "who would that be?"  Anybody that got paid mid 8 figures or into the 9's - no.  There's quite a few of those guys who haven't played on the PGAT at all, so there's nothing to go back to in that regard.  So IMO that leaves the Hud Swafford, Brendan Steele, Cameron Triangle Tringale types.  And they weren't bringing much to the PGAT anyway.

If a crossover were to truly happen, LIV needs to drop the whole team concept.  The idea that there was some latent demand for team golf was based on the PIF's love for F1 and golf fan's interest in team events that only happen annually (Ryder, Presidents, Solheim cups etc.).  Team golf is special because of its scarcity and the innate rooting interests of country vs country competition. LIV would be better served being the premier match play league ala tennis vs the F1 model.

That’s been said a lot….  but as a very casual fan of F1 I don’t get it.   Yes, there are manufacturer teams but I’ve always thought of the great drivers

Fangio, Lauda, Schumacher, Hamilton etc not Ferrari Mercedes Red Bull.

I think fans want to see more of guys like DJ, Rahm, Bryson, even Patrick Reed instead of the Korn Ferry AAAA Tour that's filling out PGA Tour events now.

If I had to guess, it could be some of the bigger names, still in their prime, who's contracts will expire within a year or two.  Unless, unloads another dump truck of cash on guys like Koepka, Nieman and other guys still in their prime, playing great golf, I'd imagine they'd consider leaving.  They've already banked the money and it can't be too thrilling playing in front of few people at most of the stops.

I hate it when people speak for me. Especially when they are wrong about what I want.

 

I'd be surprised if others don't feel the same way.

From a fan like myself I don't want to see those guys again.  I was a big Bryson and Rahm fan but no longer.  They turned on their PGA fans for a huge payday, the thing is they were already in the very wealthy column from PGA golf and fans like myself who fit the advertising demographic that the sponsors target.

 

Without fans and sponsors it doesn't work.  It would take a huge act of contrition to welcome them back.  It's not impossible but it's not like they just start playing again and everything is good.  Last year I had to stop watching majors when one of the Liv guys was featured, it turns my stomach.

AND

Having to play more tournaments than less to try and gain OWRG points. Flying around the world spending less time with family. Losing their name recognition. Pretending to care about the team aspect. Having to be careful what they say...  Faking the Champaigne celebration. Being owned - etc. etc.

Getting upset that some golfers took an offer for generational wealth guaranteed money doesn't make sense to me.

I don't have any problem with LIV and the players choosing what's best for them.  I enjoy the PGA tour and LIV.

I don’t know how many years the marquee players have to play via their contracts. But if I was Brooks Koepka I would not be amused that a two time major winner (Rahm) got more than double the money Koepka, a four time major winner, got for playing LIV. Most of the star power plays sub standard golf (all the Mjesticks, Kaymer, Reed, FIGJAM) or get by because they still have some game, but don’t bother to put the work in (Smith, DJ). Niemann is on a roll, but no other player is consistently challenging for wins. Pat Perez, Danny Lee, Howell Number three were on their way out of the PGA Tour. And no one cares what Tringale, Swafford, Kokrak, Na or even Oosthuizen do. Their roaster gets weaker every day. Yes, they show shot after shot on their broadcast, but do I want to see Richard Bland or Andy Ogletree make a birdie on a 140 yard par three? Third year in, and none of the teams has an investor. Not a single part of this concept works the way they planned it. The only way to keep this alive is paying players even more money to stay on board. Al Rumayyan wanted to get into the higher echelons of golf, now that PIF is out of the merger he will never get to be a member of Augusta National or a chairman on a worldwide relevant golf entity. The horse is dead.

The one huge benefit of the team golf payments is making some of the players that are out of it try hard on the last day when their team is in the running and all scores count. That adds a very interesting dynamic.

Or…you could just have them miss the cut and watch the guys that are playing well that week.  
 

If that floats your boat watch LIV.  To me there are individual sports and there are team sports.  IMO if no one is playing defense then it is an individual sport.  Gymnastics has both but most folks want to know what the individual athletes did.  Does team tennis even exist these days?

 

The Olympics are the only individual sports I can think of(yes there are some team sports involved) where the team result matters.  And that is mostly medal count

Or how about his choice to not take part in the new equity sharing arrangement from the private PGA entity?

"They want to play less."

 

"They're doing this for their families."
