Professionals rarely go through the motions as they’re competitive animals

Sometimes they play well and sometimes they don’t while others are passed their best

Is Adam Scott just going through the motions because he’s rich?

No…he’s still 51st in the world rankings.  Would Phil be anywhere near that?  Results in the last 11 months give a definitive no.

By the way…you brought up money.  I didn’t even mention it.

The exhibition league is full of it, lol.  You don't know much about pro sports and really are overgeneralizing - plenty of athletes dog it from time to time and have throughout history, some whenever they can get away with it.  When you turn golf into a traveling exhibition with no consequences for bad play and riches beyond imagination, you invite lack of motivation and get it.

lol

I was a professional sportsman 😂

I've already said some of the guys are still among the best in the world (you might read what is said rather than repeating something that has little to do with what I was saying).  Overall were the really good LIV guys world beaters in the majors? No. Did some play well or really well? Of course. We'll leave Phil out of it, he's off the face of the earth again as he'll continue to be.

Just proves my point.  Some will grind and get ready for a major --- are they doing that for the exhibition league events?  No way.  Is the quality of golf in the exhibition league anywhere near that in any of the majors?  Not even in the same galaxy.  Same for week in and week out on the Tour.  In relative terms, same for DP, KFT, real competitive tours.  S__ts and giggles is what the exhibition league is all about, it's never really been about high level and real competition and that's been shown over and over and proven by its own words and actions and the players' words and actions.

Come on.

You make a lot of assumptions. I have read what is said and what has been written. I think you need to understand that you don’t know what goes on in other people’s minds as much as you think you do. Just like in this thread, you don’t know what goes on in my mind and I certainly don’t know what goes on in yours, nor will I pretend to do so. We also don’t know what goes on in the minds of professional golfers whether it be on LIV or the PGA tour. We have no idea what their attitude is, their desire, motivation, and their preparation for tournaments. I think it’s pretty obvious that all professional golfers prepare much more for majors than they do regular tournaments. Brooks Koepka said as much even before he went to LIV.

Then a few exhibition league players doing well in majors doesn't lead to the conclusion you suggested.

Realistically, the same could be said for both sides. I’m sure there are some guys on the PGA tour they’re getting up there in years and have quite a bit of money and don’t work as hard as they could or should compared to how they used to. They are just biding their time to get to the Champion tour. That’s OK.

None of that is the point (again) and no, some guys nearing 50 aren't comparable to what you claim the exhibition league is about.

Pro athletes definitely slouch. Some simply view it as a job, especially over the years as a weltered veteran once you've entrenched your place in the food chain. Not all are wired to win win win. For golf, look no further than Joel Dahmen.

Thurston Howell the third fit that definition.  He was always in the pack and a highly skilled pro golfer but he didn't have the kill instinct that the most successful golfers use when they rise above the pack.  He was quite content being in the pack and playing golf for a living, a true journeyman.

Guarantee that he wasn’t “content” with finishing in the pack every week

There’s more to sports (or most things really) than physical talent

Once you get to a certain level, talent differential is minimal between most & it’s what’s going on between the ears that’s most important

Bit of luck doesn’t go astray either but it’s mental as much as anything

Niemann is the guy who seems seriously motivated.

all of the younger guys are, puig almost won again this week on asian tour, losing in a playoff. With all the  54gang and now AK too playing these asian tour events, they are more intriguing over these both -non Rory and non LIV-DP Events.

Tossing AK in there? Can’t take it seriously.

Cool you guys agree… just said the same thing. One called out killer instinct and one called out what’s between the ears.

 Keep arguing, this is fun!😂

A little weird they're meeting in the Bahamas rather than in the US.  I suspect there is a reason for that.

Bahamas, St Barts, this is where fat cats go to close deals in a relaxed setting

It would seem to mean everyone is comfy enough with each other to hang in shorts and no socks, eat drink, and get this done

So much is being made of ex-PGA Tour players being 'banned' from PGA Tour as 'extreme'.  Hmmm....what about the amount LIV players would have to pay back to LIV if they left LIV?.... 3x their contracted amounts.  I think it was Brooksie who said he would have to pay LIV $450 million if he wanted out before his contract expired.  That's not 'extreme'?  Maybe PGA Tour should put something like that in their upcoming contracts when they start playing for the SSG money.

I like the idea offered by Peter Malnati that says that current LIV members who are ex-PGA Tour will not be re-instated as 'members' (membership allows you to get a chunk of that additional SSG money... the $900 million), but ex-PGA Liv players can play as invited guests in PGA Tour tournaments and be elligible for the purse as well as world ranking points.  I like that idea.....so only the portion of the purse as winnings and alloted points.

The big question is, assuming that PIF insists on some sort of longevity for LIV (even if they have to find it off of the new entities P&L)

Then how can both tours succeed with “watered down” fields

The obvious answer is for the best players on both tours to play together as much as possible

4 Aramco events with the upper end of both tours in the field. And then a Ryder Cup event.

That would juice revenue a lot for both tours

Majors are enough when combined with the PGA Tour events.  More golf than that just waters down the product.
