I hope South Carolina pounds the daylights out of Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl. Always a great day in CFB when ND loses. 😁

Amen !  From your lips to gods ears !    Would mean the best season of Carolina football in my lifetime.  How sad is that ?  😅.  But onward and upward.  Excited to see who we grab on the recruiting side ,

FCS Playoff game Friday night.

Incarnate Word 66, Sacramento State 63.

Combined 57 points scored in the 4th quarter alone. Total of 1,317 yards of offense. Both schools had 300+ yards rushing. Would have been a fun game to watch.

USC kids always get lots of votes because. Used to be the USC tailback (didn't matter who it was) pretty much was guaranteed a Heisman trip every year.  They didn't always win, but were almost always top 4.

I started to say “ politics “.     I truly wanted the TCU QB to win. But I thought Bennett was a lock honestly.  You may have a national champ winner losing to a guy who couldn’t even keep his conference title game close.  Just nonsense.

edit - will have a national  champ winner losing to a guy who didn’t keep his conference title game close.  Wow.

Funny thing is Duggan may not go pro.  At least not for 2023 draft.  Saw an article that recommended he stay one more year (COVID) and soak up the NIL.  Good year could only raise his draft stock.  He is not considered a 1st round pick. Guts and competitiveness doesn't go far in the NFL apparently these days.

Disappointing! Well maybe he'll just win another National Championship so he can thumb his nose at them.🤠

Yep. It’s crazy. My wife and I have only watched him one game , and my wife who is a huge football fan cannot stop talking about his effort.  I mean it’s once every 10 years type guts.  Last time I saw that was probably Tim teebow.  And this kid has more tools than teebow.

He's the full package. Just needed to be 2" taller. LOL Still should have won, but I'm biased, watched him since HS.

Hmm. What about a certain SC running back in 1980 that won the Heisman Trophy for an average 8-3 team ranked 18th that got completely flattened (37-9) in it's bowl game to fall out of the top 20 in the final rankings and finish 8-4? Undeserved Heisman winner as well? I mean he did beat out the real best player in the country that year that was a true freshman who won a NC for Georgia and was the bowl game MVP. Just nonsense. 😂

One reason that player didn't win the Heisman was that he was a true freshman and back in those days there was no way a freshman could win the Heisman due to idiotic and myopic reasoning by voters that a freshman (or even sophomore) could not be the best player in the country. That RB won the Heisman in 1982 when his team was number 1 in the rankings before losing the NC game.

USC has had one Heisman finalist at running back since Marcus Allen won in 1981. Unfortunately the one finalist at RB that USC (2005) had from 1981 had his Heisman revoked. He is currently slumming in Wendy's commercials.

Sorry.  I didn't quantify "used to be". I was talking about ye olden times when teams rushed more than passed.  Playing tailback for USC was one of, if not the, premier position in college football.

I’m not defending Rogers but.  I think you have to look at numbers put up vs the competitor played against .  I don’t remember the strength in the south at that time.  But. I do know that today southern cal isnt playing a strong schedule, and the two games I watched the guy play he didn’t pass the eyeball test.  Now of course that’s anecdotal to the max.  But it’s all I got.

Notre dame and Utah are the only two non cupcake teams they played.  And they went 2-1 against those two.

It'll be interesting to infer the impact of NIL money on underclass draft decisions. While pro teams and agents can't directly influence the decision of a specific player, boosters and NIL coordinators definitely can and will in some cases.

From what I see he put up the best numbers

2022 (13 games): 4,075 passing yards, 372 rushing yards, 47 total touchdowns, four interceptions, 66.1% completion rate

He definitely got that “man playing against boys” quality you see in great ones in the making.

This like Mahomie!

Eh. I’m not a mahomes fan either.  Just not my brand quarterback.  But I also know that the game is changing.  And plenty like to see his type play.

but in the case of Williams it’s just hard to care about the stats when you consider the environment he made them in.

Oh no doubt many years back. Always running student body right. Especially when John McKay and John Robinson were the head coaches.

Guess you didn't actually watch the USC/Utah game. USC led early (17-3) and was only down a touchdown entering the 4th quarter when the game got out of hand. Of course Williams got hurt early in the game which impacted his and his teams performance and he still put up great numbers passing. Guess Williams was the cause of the USC defense being a complete sieve as well. Too many people seem to think the Heisman winner should only be the top QB or RB on a top rated team. While it unfortunately ends up that way many times it's not the way it should be. Caleb Williams was a better player this year than Bennett. The voting proved that. By a large margin.

You are. 🤣🤣. As excellent a season he had in 1980 he didn't have a better season that Herschel did. Walker was by far the best player on a national championship team that year. SC was only an average team. Due to the beliefs in Heisman voting back then Rogers was given the Oscars equivalent of a lifetime achievement award by winning the Heisman. There is not one reasonable or rational reason that Bennett was the best player in the country this year.

My earliest QB memories as a football obsessed kid were of Terry Bradshaw and Roger Staubach and Fran Tarkenton

Next came countless hours seeing John Elway, Theisman, Montana, Fouts, Kelly, and Marino.

And, of course, I saw the emergence of this more all around, athletic QB developing as Randall Cunningham become the first to throw 4 TDs and rush for 100 yards in a game.

I mention these guys for some perspective on what goes into my assessment of what a great QB is. I’d also prefer a pure field general pocket passer if I built a football team.

But that kid CW is the best player on the college football field. And he’s just a sophomore ; )

Lol. Guys. I’m in no position for an epic argument. Of course you’re going to win. He got the votes. So we will agree to disagree.

If I’m building a college all star team. He’s my 3rd string guy at best. I don’t think my team loses to his team because of it.

Cheers blade! I just go off the film, like the scouts do. No sound, no context, you see a that level of prolific talent, and you know a guy is top NFL pick.

Plus I think CW popped his hamstring and played the rest of the game getting his butt kicked. That shows heart/guts,  and devotion to his team.

No I’m not.  I can’t possibly defend the 1980 pick. I was 1 year old then.  I have no idea the context , stats or competitions stats.  I said that.

but to use your logic. If the line he was running behind was typical usc. Then , he probably deserved it since he did so with less talent around him.  Again. To use the logic that’s defending Williams.  Not my argument. Just inserting different players  into the formula.

Williams will be the #1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, mark it in stone.  Not a huge fan of him, but the talent is undeniable.
