Giving Up The Great Game Of Golf

Recommended Posts

I decided a couple of months ago to give up golf as for some reason I've lost interest. My wife tried to talk me out of it but to no avail.

Maybe sometime in the future I'll get back in the game even though I'm an old man.

Just wanted to say that I've had a blast on GolfWRX forum interacting with other members, reading threads and I think that it's the best.

Happy Holidays to all!

How old is 'old man's?  I play with a 91-year-old and we typically team up and play a better ball scramble format for 9 holes every Monday with nothing on the line. He can easily walk the 9 on the flattish course, so he gets some fitness benefit as well. But the camaraderie is the big thing.  Maybe you just need an attitude change or a different motivation.

It is expensive. I haven't played a round in the last several years but I hit the range on occasion still. I am just fighting to get my swing back.

I suspect that golf  gives up on us way more than we give up on it.

as in does the guy who struggles to get to get playing time give  up on golf , or did it simply price him out of the market time wise ?

or the guy who once played the game pretty good , and then ages into a game where he doesn’t recognize any of it anymore.  Did he quit or did he become unable?

These pictures are becoming clearer to me. I’m a guy who picked up the game naturally , and never struggled to get around anywhere  without losing balls or being out of play even as a beginner several years ago.  And I realize what a blessing that is after I’ve watched so many rounds of golf by all skill levels.  I made the comment that I couldn’t imagine playing this game at a greatly diminished skill level.  I just don’t know how  you’d reconcile the old pictures in Your mind and keep going knowing they’d never repeat? . That was my love of the game. The improvement.  The competition.  If that leaves. There’s only socializing and outdoors. I am not a social butterfly , I loathe it unless I know you well.  and I live on a farm.  I stay outside more than half of every day.

youth is wasted on the young.  And daily golf is wasted on the old.

It’s true.😂  Played with a bunch of guys today.  Half were talking about the Round yesterday. The rest were talking about the round tomorrow.    Me. Was out for the first time in 5 weeks.  Will be another week at least before the next.

I have often thought that maybe the guys who get the most fun out of golf are the guys who play a couple times a year and have no expectations. I see guys like this playing and they always seem to be having a blast.....Kind of like me when i go bowling once every year and a half...Gutter ball or strike, all the same to me. I have absolutely no expectations and always have a great time.
