I know this happened a couple months back but didn’t see any posts on it and I just recently thought about it. This was before the final round at the masters. I read online he put the lampkin grip trainer on a separate 6 iron he had TM build. I have never seen anyone using these grip trainers to be honest.

Should we be? Being they’re $11 on Amazon I ordered 2 to put on an old PW and 7 iron since my grip always likes to gravitate towards too strong.

What do you all think?

I saw a vid of his a while back and ordered a grip. Has helped have a solid grip. 10/10 would reccomend

How did you install it so it was square to the clubface? I did see one review saying there weren’t any lines to ensure it was square. That was really my only concern.

The bottom “v” points just about straight up on mine. I have a fairly neutral grip. You’ll have to just put it on and twist it around til it feels right for you.

Can’t say about that particular grip trainer - but I know first hand from an ex Tour pro that caddied for Mark Hubbard; that more than a few guys on Tour have a putter grip installed on a 7iron and/or PW to practice with (it’s illegal to compete with those)… in order to have a better felling of the club face orientation at all time during the swing… the flat part of the grip helping you ‘sense’ if it’s open/closed at all time and especially in the backswing / top / transition parts

Wonder if he uses ribbed grips or not.

Years ago I used to occasionally have days where I could not get my hands feeling 'normal' on the grip at all. Very odd, but since using a rib in all my clubs it's not happened since.

The rib also helps ensure i don't hold the club with the face closed (with my kind of standard 2-1/2 knuckle grip) - I use the Golfworks grip rib pack under Bestgrip Microperf grips.

Due to an old Pro who i had lessons from who had his rib on top - that's how i've gone... it's up to you, but rib on top is easy to sense in the V between thumb and forefinger (I even have the Bestgrips installed 'upside down' so the stitching is on top).

Scottie talks about how he had to fix his grip and the trainer keeps it in check. In another interview I think he says he used lead tape to keep the swing weight feel close to his normal clubs since the trainer grip is heavier than a standard grip. He also has a trainer club with an extension beyond the grip to correct overswing faults.

The grip trainer is a good idea. I find my grip will slide out of place without me noticing.

Awesome stuff, I tried to find a video on it but couldn’t so thanks for sharing!

I’m excited to try this out. As he said our grip is the only connection to the club and there are some days where when I take my grip I’m just like ughh it doesn’t quite feel right. Then there are some days I feel like I can feel the club head really well.

Thanks for that, the breakdown at 12:35 showing the across the line position and what the lower body often has to do to compensate for that is something we see constantly in swing videos posted here. This will be good to reference for those in the future.

I’m a little late here, but is anyone able to tell how Scottie has the grip trainer aligned? Lamkins website says the bottom “V” should be aligned to the leading edge, but Scotties coach had said he prefers a strong grip which made me think they maybe had it aligned slightly to the right of the leading edge.

For the people that have purchased, have you put the grip on the way the lamkin website says to, or is that too nuetral/weak?

I actually ended up hating having it on a club and just use the grip itself each day before hitting balls.

My swing looked quite different in a bad way when I swung the grip trainer vs an actual club.

perhaps bc the pressure points are different or that I’m who I am and not scheffler 😂

Everybody should have one of these (the type/style they prefer) and use it every practice session.

I, myself, have to get a new one, because once again I've <expletive deleted> lost all semblance of any control and 99% of the time when that happens, my grip is completely out of whack. It doesn't fix a bad swing, but it gives a good and reliable starting point to help mend a broken and bad swing.

I just ordered a new one myself because the one I have is broken (the skilz trainer doesn't last that long). I need the f****** thing to hurry up and get here....

It's been one of those <expletive deleted> weeks.... lol🙃

Gripped all my 5 year olds clubs with these to naturally teach him the grip. 11 years olds clubs too. Great way to not have to constantly reposition their hands and they learn on their own. I wish they made these in large or XL

My question for guys like @MonteScheinblum and @iacas

Are these good or bad?  I’ve always felt that with the differing arm angle hang we all have and different hand sizes these were not necessarily a good thing.

Thoughts?  Thank you

Are what good or bad? The grip trainer things?

I have a few… I rarely use them. They never seem to be quite the right size.

I have one attached to a club that I used with a kid who wouldn't stop gripping it SUPER weak, because it at least makes you point the "V"s in the general direction…

I fix a lot of grips. And people resist that as much as anything, for some reason, even though you can take as long as you'd like to get your hands on the club properly.

Maverick McNealy used a molded grip made of dental mold (the white stuff they make you bite down on to make clear retainers) on another putter, and he led the tour in strokes gained putting last season.

That RoboGolf machine also had grips molded after certain tour players' grips such as Jason Day's.

Why isn't the custom molded training grip a thing in the full swing? It should work well in theory.

Probably because it would be expensive for the everyday golfer. I mean, given the input it seems something that isn't hotly demanded, either.

Ha-I ride my bicycle right by that place once a week; that's on our White Rock loop. Never seen Scottie there. I do see plenty of the "ladies who lunch" rolling up in their Range Rovers for tennis.

It's right next to a sketchy liquor store with busted glass lining the parking lot. I feel fortunate not to have punctured there. Dallas is interesting: prestigous private club next to a seedy strip.

If I had to guess McNealy had a mold made of HIS grip when he was putting well to keep HIS grip where it should be.

I’ve been on Robo pro with Justin Rose’s swing programmed.  Hated it.  Why would a 5’10” 190lb 66 year old try to pattern their swing on a 6’3” 195lb 44 year old?  And for the grip wouldn’t it change based on grip size and how an individual’s arms hang?
