JT moved to a blade putter at the Sentry?

Hi all, I saw a post on instagram this morning which showed JT using a blade putter, it looked to have a standard scottie grip too but I cant find the post anymore!!

 

Does anyone have any info on this, or can find the picture so we can see which model and grip?

It worries me a bit that he is searching with the flat stick, a bit like Rickie Fowler was last year when his putting stats dropped. Maybe its a feel thing, who knows. I guess DJ changes the flatstick every 5 minutes and it doesnt do him any harm.

 

As you say will be interesting to see whats in the bag Thursday.

His strokes gained with the 5.5 flow neck was frankly horrible.  Not sure on the knuckle neck but he must not feel comfortable if he’s searching.

JT used a blade style putter when he first started on the PGA Tour. Worked okay for him then. Let's see if he uses it in competition.

Definitely interesting to see him switch back to a blade. The last I can remember him using one was at the 2019 US Open. He had just come back after his wrist injury and I can remember him saying that he had too much time putting, it was all he good do with his injured wrist, and it all ended up getting in his head. Will be interesting to see how he gets on with it this week.

I was wondering when my fellow JT nerd would spot this thread Matty 😅

 

It is a big change for sure, especially as its the grip as well as the head... going to a thinner grip and smaller bladed head tells me he wants to feel the putts more, instead of being as mechanical and locked in. Hopefully he wins with it this week so he can tell us the real story 😂

I think he had a blade in had a few times last year but it never went into play. All this hanging around Tiger is rubbing off. He has tungsten in the middle of his irons like Tiger, now switching to a Tiger like blade. etc etc..

I was thinking the exact same thing. Tiger probably ribbed him for not being able to putt with a blade and so he puts it in because of his "older brother" ribbing him.

I suppose copying Tiger isn't the worst approach to take. I think for these top level pro's its more about what's in their head than the technique itself, so it's probably a feel and visual thing.

My memory from the Jonathan Wall article was that he tried the tungsten weight in there but decided that he didn't like it and went with the one solid piece in the end. Went and checked...

 

The material helped dial in the center of gravity of Woods’ irons, while also improving the overall feel at impact. To see if Thomas liked a similar feel and design, machinist Scott Knutson fashioned a slug of tungsten behind the hitting area on a prototype.

“On a blind, JT didn’t like the feel,” Van Wezenbeeck said. “For him, a solid, milled iron provided the best possible feel.”

Only Thomas’ irons aren’t just any block of forged carbon steel

Unreleated but the white FJ Premieres look 10x better with the dark grey bottom vs the retail tan one. Too bad those are a MyJoys option only.
