Tell me about it! I live in Montana which has a low density of courses (~110 total) and a large area to cover. Minimum I'm driving 100 miles one way to play a new course here now.

I'm at the point that within the SF Bay Area, the only public courses I haven't played are:

SJ Muni, Coyote Creek Nicklaus, Santa Teresa, Moffett Field;

HMB Ocean, Harding/Lincoln Park;

Poppy Ridge;

Franklin Canyon, Lone Tree, some others in Brentwood;

Blue Rock Springs, Paradise, Rancho Solano.

Every course on that list is more than an hour away, and after I play those 20something courses I guess I'm just done at that point?

Montana sounds like the same thing with all the distances doubled. I've only ever played Fairmont Hot Springs in Anaconda.

I loved True Blue and Caledonia.  Played them 20+ years ago.  Still in credit shape?

True Blue was excellent and I’d return anytime I’m in the area.  Caledonia was disappointing after all the great things I’d heard and read.  The greens were in embarrassing condition for the peak rate they charged in that end of March timeframe.

The routing was superb on what could feel like a cramped site if not done in a very thoughtful manner.  The aesthetic and vibe on property were very cool, but also made the putting surface shortcomings all the more glaring.

Literally 3 of the greens were worse than my worst local muni.  Not conscionable when you’re charging $240 for greens fees.

I’m glad to hear the conditions have improved and my experience last spring was an anomaly.

I really wanted to love Caledonia based on my admiration for Tobacco Road and I was floored by how Strantz wove 18 compelling holes around that small property.

The Southern charm starts on the ride up the mossy oak lined driveway and never stopped.

My favorite new course played was Copper Rock in Hurricane, UT.

I played Copper Rock for the 1st time in early March this year. Would definitely take a different approach into 5 or 6 of those holes. Fun course though.

I also played the 2 Oasis courses in Mesquite for the first time. Liked the Palmer much more than the Canyons. The day we played the Canyons it was blowing 25-35 though and about 50 degrees out.
