As our tech guru, what you think of the Geoffrey Hinton, head of Google AI, and credited as Godfather of AI quitting Google,

 

I saw him interviewed he looks scared $hitless 😳 and mortified and even regretful of his work. He basically said that AI will be able to overcome and get around any restrictions put on it, fool systems, fool people, and be able to “do what it wants”

 

Thats insane!

 

Tell ya, my buddy got like 50 acres upstate and a safe full of guns! Gotta be ready for Skynet yo for reals!

A feel a certain kinship with Seattle fans. As not long ago they lost their beloved SuperSonics… Sean Kemp and Gary ‘The Glove’ Payton were fun to watch.

Time to switch to coconut flour LP, he said. JT's new diet made Golf Digest today and Parker was mentioned.

... OK, broke out of my slump today with a 69 from the senior tees. Still feels like cheating but I am 70 🤪 so I'll take it. Got to feel what it is like to be CS and drive 2 of the par 4's just over the greens and on the back fringe. 247 (into the wind) and 265 (right to left wind) from the golds but a little shorter cutting the dogleg and straight over the lakes. The tees were at the front of the tee boxes mocking me so I really had no choice. Still feels pretty cool driving over greens. 💪  Picture is 17 the 265 hole, fairway to the right and hard to tell but quite uphill and you have to carry the railroad ties that go almost right up to the front of the green with a false front. It measured a 227 carry from the Sr tees to clear the wood. Back to my normal tees tomorrow and hopefully my swing feels just as good as today after a 3 day weekend. 

(Sorry for the golf talk) Now back to food, pick ups, nice cars, basketball and for 1 or 2 of you ... baseball.

Yes but AI war won’t start fast, not like alien craft hovering over cities or a meteor or volcano about to erupt. So won’t be panic at first.

Very windy and 68 degrees yesterday and I and Mrs. NCL walked 18 at Hillandale in Durham.   Played at about 5600 and shot a 47/50=97.  Their fast and sneaky undulating greens put me in a defensive putting posture and I 3 putted 4 times and 2 putted the remaining 14 for 40 total. Yuck. Hit 12-14 fairways, played the same ball (Vice Pro) all day. 

Highlight of the day was stopping for a takeout pint of pulled pork BBQ at our favorite little place, Hog Heaven!  Heated up some Bush's baked beans, ate a few sandwiches and watched the Leafs lose!  Canes tonight vs. those pesky Devils!

Eh ... I'll admit all this is a bit above my pay grade. But what I will say is I think the fear mongering and like ... new buzzword nonsense is overblown. (Same thing happens with, like, VR every 5-10 years or so) It's the thing everyone wants to talk about nowadays but what it's doing isn't exactly "new."

 

ChatGPT and the like aren't really "AI" as we think of it in terms of Skynet and the like ... because all it's doing is compiling and regurgitating what it's been told and trained on. Very cleverly - yes - but it's not creating anything new. The misinformation it provides ... is the same as the misinformation humans provide. Because humans are its source. 

 

Point being ... it's no more dangerous than human beings. Personally I think all the buzzwordiness of it will peter out over the coming years. 

 

Fun fact - I've got a computer vision model doing image processing on every image uploaded to Pine. Why? It recognizes the general content of the image and stores them as a string array of the results. (Like if you upload a photo of TDub, it might provide something like ["man", "red shirt", "golf", "grass"]) It then gets fed into Algolia (a rad service) for indexing. I can then query that platform in a natural language way and it'll provide pretty great results. For what reason? Improve search ability and relevant suggestion results. It's pretty nice!

And that’s the most frightening thing. If you look at what human beings are capable of, the 1940s for example, with AI as a weapon, it’s game over. 
 

I don’t think AI will develop into some evil thing on its own or ever understand the concept of evil. Instead, I’m the same way children take instructions from their parents, a government will share objectives with AI like,

 

Develop a plan to take down my enemies electric grid. To take down their stock market. Ok now insulate yourself from being hacked. 
 

The AI is self learning and has nothing better to do than do what it’s told and figure it out. So the entity that’s giving it instructions is the concern. And the “evil” intentions of the entity are only limited by the resources they have. 
 

I think within 10 years, powerful countries will be able to demonstrate to their foes that their AI could put them in the stone ages very quickly. And hopefully there will be some accord as there is with nukes.

 

But, you’ll have countries like North Korea with AI as well, that’s not good ; )

how have you never seen entourage?! show is so great.

 

i was having drinks with a friend in a little bar in the city and vinnie chase sits down at the next table to eat. 

 

after a couple three drinks, i leaned over and go "yo vin, what's wrong with drama?"

 

he laughed and goes "so much, man.  so so much." 

 

big laugh, we clinked glasses, "cin don!" and i left him alone to enjoy his meal.
