Do You Enjoy Playing in High Winds?

I don’t mind wind, I don’t mind rain, but I hate the two together. I particularly enjoy windy days for tournament golf as you know lots of the field will struggle and I spent a decade playing links golf, so I feel like I have an advantage.

I don't normally play well in the wind as I fight it. Today I'm surprised as I shot 36 +1 for 9 holes. Thanks to a lengthy 20+ ft. birdie put on a par 3 and thanks to a 300 yard drive with the wind to my back on a par 5. 7W went just over the green nice chip to with 4" for a birdie. My 3 boogies were due to missed GIR and couldn't get the 1 putt par.  Shots I would have never missed with my irons on a normal calm day. Oh well I actually drove the ball very nice for using my 11* Tsr2 driver. If it's windy tomorrow like it was I'm staying home Lol!

Windy weather is nice on a hot but not terribly hot day.  Right now I'm just working on ball striking so I don't really care about wind.

Well I thought I did but today after a 92 on a course that was giving me 7 strokes. Winds were 20 to 30 mph . Not so much now.

I dont mind wind. I can put rain gloves on and handle some wet weather. I am from Canada so an extra layer in the cold is no biggie.

 

The only thing I'll probably pass on is the full combination. Wet, windy, cold is just tough on my mental and body haha. Stiff in your bones, restricted with layers and gloves and mitts in between shots. I dont enjoy it lol.

 

Lucky for me in northern Canada our club championships are always in late September so thats always the deal.

I don't mind up to a reasonable amount where it is still fun to play with rather than excessive and randomly punishing.

Yeah I just wasn't sure where the line was actually drawn given how close most of the population is to the US border.

Yes!!  I love high winds.  When it's really windy, I can utilize my special bump'n'run shot for approaches into the breeze.  Then, when the wind is at my back, I can tee it high and feed the Big Dogg driver and let it fly!!

Only when it's at my back. Honestly, as I've gotten better wind has become less of a factor to a point.

 

Yet, I don't play competitively so the margins are irrelevant.

Some of my most memorable rounds have been in bad weather, but I will choose good weather 10/10 times if given the choice.

90% of the time I'm playing in a 2-4club wind.  And it gets really really old over the years.  Just the sound of it in your ears gets annoying and in your head.  It can really amplify a bad mood when you don't want to fight that hard for a round.  I'm not one for earphones and music when I play but I use them as tools to drown out the wind noise when it's on my nerves.  It doesn't stop me from playing but enjoyable?, hmmmm,  I certainly don't miss it when it is not blowing.

Tiger Woods once said high winds let you know very quickly which players have been faking their way around the course. Love playing competitive golf in those conditions because it becomes a ball striking competition.

You know, after seeing this thread get bumped again, it had me thinking.

As I get better I've actually started enjoying wind practice and play more. It hasn't been terribly windy around here as of late, but I have recently been reminded of when I really like wind on the golf course.

 

I like a more brisk wind when it's freaking hot! LOL 😄

 

Too bad HOT doesn't usually mean "breezy" or "windy." 😞

If professional golfers are faking it that puts the odds at close to 100% amateurs are.

Yes, if the wind makes the course weather more comfortable in terms of temperature.
