WCW - Wie, Creamer, Woods

I think the golf channel, LPGA, USGA and some tournament sponsors should incorporate these three pros into the pre-game, TV broadcasts, and storytelling of events. The Chevron needed more TV time but these three would have been great to provide pre taped course analysis and some of those Texas/Houston tourism spots. Their addition to the coverage team (among other things) would have helped the Chevron feel more like a Major than a Drive On event.

Michelle has previously provided in studio coverage. Cheyenne has done some on course for The Match and the LPGA used her a few times to tape off course activities. So those two have experience. Paula is still competing, but until she gains full form she would be a welcome contributor.

There appears to be a lot of TV time for the US Open. Wie is playing and Paula may try to qualify. Maybe add Suzanne Petterson and/or Tiff Joh. Have them play the 7th, 8th, 18th and provide analysis of the holes.

We already have Morgan and Giggles. Now you want this...

Funny 🙂.

But Morgan and Paige are getting increasingly more difficult for me to listen to.

I'm not sure anyone can do what Judy Rankin did, and even with Judy, the presentation was due for some revision and refreshment. So try something new and inject some new energy into what I think is an entertaining product.

Wie is a polarizing figure and probably there are people that would line up on both sides of the fence here.  I'm not sure anyone wants to listen to either of the other two (notwithstanding Creamer has a better track record than Wie).  Or, maybe that is just me.

is there a “Smylie Kaufman equivalent” with LPGA experience

ie doesn’t need to be a Hall of Famer... but a step up from Paige Mackenzie?

Am ok with Morgan Pressel, I think she has improved & is more comfortable vs when she started this Golf Channel gig.

I know Christina Kim is also a polarising figure... but perhaps more insightful than “Giggles MacKenzie” (and has some TV hosting experience via PGA Tour Live)?

Ditto Alison Whitaker (LET/ DP World Tour hosting experience)

...or Iona Stephen? (I confess... I have a weakness for her Scottish accent/brogue)

...I’m reminded of the plaudits that Jon Rahm (and Justin Thomas ) have received for their punditry insights ... so maybe @AWinfortheAges is onto something wrt injecting energy/ new insights in the broadcast commentary product! https://www.golfchannel.com/news/best-moments-jon-rahms-fascinating-and-insightful-analysis-rbc-heritage-broadcast

(Albeit the suggested “WCW” acronym used in the OP= gave the imagery of pundits wrestling 🤼‍♀️!... now that could be box-office TV!)

I'm all for injecting new energy, just not exactly sure Michelle and Paula would be any better than Paige and Morgan. Cheyenne would be a great voice, but much like Paige, she lacks actual on course experience, which for me should be a requirement.

I think they've got a strong team. I don't really understand why anyone would knock Pressel, Mackensie or Stanford. Pressel has done great so far and Stanford is showing some real potential. Mackensie seems to have found her niche and brings a really good level of energy.

I think you have to ask yourself...who would embrace the job and really want to do it because that's what is going to drive performance. Pressel and Mackensie are definitely in and that's the #1 challenge, finding someone that really will invest themselves.

Wie isn't going to give a crap about it nor would she really bring anything that I can think of. Woods is kind of on par with Mackensie as far as the resume goes. She should get more involved. It's probably up to her TBH.

Creamer is a long-term possibility but from what I can tell, she's pretty invested in playing to the highest of her ability right now.

I likeAngela as an on course commentator, and it seems like the whole crew (Morgan, Paige, Tom A, etc) are working well together. For those so bothered by Morgan’s voice, I seem to remember that Paula has a really gravelly sounding voice - be careful what you wish for!  And OMG, I was  afraid someone would suggest Christina Kim!  I remember her being in the broadcast booth a number of years ago at some tournament. No, no, no!

It doesn't get said ever but I think Tom Abbott is really integral to the whole thing. He's my favorite.

I'll be really sad if/when he ever disappears because I fear it'll change the whole dynamic. The women's tour is lucky to have someone whose vibe is so perfect and who's so laid back while still having an interest that's really directly focused on the LPGA. Without him they'd really be in trouble. He's a big asset.

.

Totally agree!

On the one hand we want the announcers to be entertaining, but on the other we don't want them to talk too much.

Let's face it, creating drama where there is none is difficult.

For me, I'd like announcers

-  to be positive

-  to not be judgemental (they had their chance on the tour.  Their time is past.)

-  to not talk too much

I hardly watch the PGA tour nowadays.   Dottie and the others seem to know everything;  just wait, they'll tell you.

I dunno. One of the great things about Judy was that she was often critical of players, but of course made it sound like a compliment. Lol. Don't need a bunch of cheerleaders out on the course. Johnny Miller was excellent because he wasn't afraid to say that an awful shot or decision was awful.

Johnny Miller would also use the C word (choke) and got a lot of criticism for that.  But when you look at the scores of the final group on Sundays on both the PGA and LPGA - it sure looks like a C.  Week after week the final group’s scores are so often quite a bit higher than their scores in earlier rounds and a lot higher than the chasers.

To me, Jerry had that thing where he spent zero time seeming like he was trying to impress you or prove he belonged there and was just really comfortable being himself and was confident in his contribution and what he had to say, which is something that seems hard for newer announcers to do.

Angela seems pretty relaxed out there. Doesn't appear that she's trying to impress anyone with her knowledge.

Yes, Jerry was very good at what he did!

But, can't complain about either Angela Stanford or Kate Cockerill, both are first rate!

Jerry's not passed on of course, just commentating on the other men's tour.

He's even better in his new gig because he has a more senior role and in the booth and therefore contributes more to the coverage, it's like he is allowed to go to a whole, new level.

Had a funny story about Karen ('his girlfriend' - his description - don't you know) and his attempt to qualify for the Senior Open.
