I do see them with custom sole grinds. Be interesting if Luke Donald liked that extra 3 degrees of bounce or has them grind that sole. I think Keith Mitchell had them do a pre worn leading edge on some of his 221's.

Actually discussed doing that to switch to graphite but I've never actually done that. I don't have time to do my own club work. I appreciate your concerns/opinion on the matter but for me and my time it's easier to have someone else do the work.

Don't let anyone talk you out of new clubs!!  I really enjoy buying your slightly used old sets!

Decided to order up one of the new Fli-Hi's today.  Now I'll be waiting for both it and the 243's.

Can they grind the sole of a hollow body iron head?

Yeah that's a ton of bounce with an already chunky sole. Can't say I wouldn't try it out myself but risky experiment for $1.5k lol

It’s really not that much. For reference an i230 has 9 degrees in the 7 iron and changes by a degree per iron until you get to the bottom of the bag where it gets even higher. No reason to fixate on the bounce I’ve played irons with tons and very little. Doesn’t really matter than much. They probably play great 3 weak.

In this regard, I believe the TM milled blades are definitely produced differently than their retail offerings. There was a video posted a while ago of a big name tour player’s heads being made. An insider commented TM would charge somewhere in the $7k range if they produced the retail heads the same way. If you were only talking about Mizzy, my apologies.

*these points are made from memory and could be slightly off

What else could be done to the 245 other than bending to make the loft (s) weaker or change the lie angle?

Taylormade have a "Tour only" version of the P770 which has a thicker face with reduced flex.

So i guess that..?

I was extremely impressed with 245. I actually spun 245 the same as 243 (6200-6500, 7i) with around a 250rpm variance. I swore 225 was my perfect iron minus the spin and at least in MY testing, they've addressed it. I couldn't be more excited about it.

That would be pretty spinny for the 245, right? It's essentially a 6 iron spinning at 6200-6500. Not what I would have expected.

I'm definitely not the prototypical WRX'er though. My 7i swing speed is a whopping 82-83mph and the 245 7i average carry was 152 with 160 rollout--243 was 145 carry with 153 rollout. I just couldn't hold anything with the 225s, so pretty spinny with hitting those distances is perfect for what I need.

It actually spun quite well for me too even with PX 6.5 which has been my gamer for the post part over the last 3 seasons

Do you have smash/launch/attack angle stats to go along with the swing speed? I’m kind of surprised you were only carrying it 152 with 82-83mph speed. I was screwing around with them earlier today swinging around 77-78 and carrying it about 163-165.

My 7i swing speed lives around 84-86mph and I’m carrying the 243 around 166-168 on average

Do you play a consistent fade?

Mizuno website iron comparison section reads that the 923T blade length is longer than the 243.

2 months ago, my eye said 243 was a bit larger. I guess the 243 are only larger be a decimal point or two in the 4i to 6i.

I don't. I wish I'd had him send me the session results and I don't recall smash/launch/attack angle. I do recall him saying my launch was solid. And yes, fade is my normal stock shot with anything except driver. And they were painting the center line with my normal fade.

I'll say this, the way I deliver the club on my irons and wedges, I do not maximize distance. I'm fairly positive I cast a little (or a lot) and I know I should go get lessons to fix it, but I'm turning 40 Saturday, have 2 kids, and just don't have the time to devote to fixing my swing. Please don't think I'm getting all defensive or anything, I've just tried to fix it in the past and don't want to waste the time trying to fix it, though I'd LOVE to do so.

From the top of the bag to the bottom though, carrying a 7i 150 puts me right where I want to be, so I guess I was just more focused on the 7i hitting that number and then seeing the spin numbers at 6000+ was good enough for me. As soon as I get them in, I'm planning to take them back in for a gapping session to tweak lofts as needed, so I'll be more mindful of all the other stuff. Now that you mention it, I'm more annoyed I didn't have him send me all the stats. That's usually the first thing I ask when we're done.

Knowing how far each club in your bag goes is more than half the battle, so definitely nothing wrong with a consistent 150 that hits the intended target. I love breaking down all of the data to understand what’s what. Enjoy the new irons!

I play the 923T. Have you compared the 243 to the 923T in terms of impact sound-feel?

Short irons 8i to PW feel very similar. 7i to 4i the 243 feel more responsive which I attribute to the material and construction of the irons. Flushed iron shots with 923T are glorious but 243 give me 9.5/10 feel on flushed shot yet offer a good bit of help on mishits.

The life of a strong willed Wrx'er personified here....

I hit the new Mizuno lineup last summer when the rep was in town...some of my comments are at the early part of this thread...

I really like my 221's.  I think they are the best blades Mizuno has made since the 33's and MP4's...obviously just my opinion... so I had no interest in the new 241's when I hit them late last summer..

Well.. the new demo heads finally hit the store last week so I went in to try some driver heads and to "waggle" the new Mizuno irons.  Big mistake.. the new 241 had not been hit yet so... I hit the 241 one time.. as shown below.. and one time only.. .obviously hit it pretty well and never felt it leave the face.....so being strong willed I am about ready to order a set....I'm a weak man...

Love it!  Hope for fast delivery for you.
