Call and order now before they’re even announced and you might get them by 2024. Two years straight Mizuno has been unbelievably slow due to their internal “system” issues. Last year I waited two months for a routine order.  This year they can’t even fill a one-club order — a driver with a different shaft that they have in stock — in less than a month. And if you call them, they don’t have a clue. Have always liked Mizuno but not doing this again. There are too many quality clubs out there. Makes me appreciate what PXG is able to do in shipping entire orders in a week.

I think Callaway struck a deal with the devil. They’ve been insanely fast at fulfilling orders even during the pandemic.

Iron History: Macgregor blades -> Tour Model 3 -> 20 year hiatus -> Callaway Rogue (ugh) -> PtxPro -> P790 -> MP4 -> MP32 -> 623CB -> ZX5 mkII -> Cobra Tours

Dr: Titleist TSR3

3W: Ping G430 SFT

7W: Callaway Paradym

4H: Cobra King Tec

5-GW: Titleist T100

W: Edison 2.0

Mizuno shipped my 923 tours day of the release. Order the week prior.

Must have been prior to April, before the annual collapse and/or hacking of the Mizuno computer system. One would think they could figure it out and prevent it. There’s an entire thread with tales of ridiculous wait times for routine orders.

Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond 10.5 w/Diamana TB 60S

PXG GEN6 5 wood w/Diamana S-plus 70 stiff

Yamaha RMX VD 7 wood w/Diamana S-plus 70 stiff

Callaway Mavrik Pro hybrid (22) w/Aldila Tour Blue 85 stiff hybrid

Wilson Staff Model CB 5-G w/DG s300 shafts

Edel T grind 54 w/Nippon 125 wedge shaft

Fourteen RM-12 58 w/Dynamic Golds400

Axis1 Rose putter, 34 inches

Definitely was before April.

Unfortunately, it took my company a second time to take hacking issues more seriously. Not fun.

  • 1 month later...

Bumping this to ask for advice. I need new shafts since my current Modus 120 S flex shafts aren't quite doing it for me. Played around with some demo clubs and the 221s with PX Rifle 6.5 were money. That said, I'm sorely tempted to wait until the new lineup is announced, either to order the new model or try to snag a discount on the 221s. I'd feel pretty silly dropping over $1300 on new irons when the next model is only a month or two from being announced. Any thoughts?

P.S. - Thinking about blending the 221s with the 223s for the long irons, maybe the 4 and 5 iron? Would love to hear any user experiences or feedback from people who have done this.

Going from the 120s to a 6.5 PX is quite a jump. Out of interest why the 120s not working for you?  (I ask as I decided to get the 223 with that shaft)

as for waiting - my thoughts were “there will always be something new coming out” and I loved the feel and look of the 223’s.  Looking back at previous models some look better than others so didn’t want to be disappointed if the new version was a bit wacky.

Like your idea of a blend at the top end (I’m getting the 4iron in the 225 - bent 1 weak)

Personally mate the 221 you want are beautiful clubs - and those ones out of the MP range hardly change so I would say go for it.

The Modus 120s are a great shaft, but I've picked up a lot of speed in the past year and the stiff flex is hard for me to time properly now. When I tried the PX 6.5 the timing felt effortless, and I was flushing every single shot. And let me tell you, flushing the 221s feel like absolute magic.

Honestly if I was asking this same question last year I wouldn't even think about it, I would just pull the trigger. I'm only hesitating now because the new release is probably right around the corner, and it's not like my current irons are unplayable. And I'd have to wait at least until the new models are announced anyway until I actually receive the clubs.

Regarding the blend, I'm wavering between blending the 223, blending the 225, or just keeping the 221 long irons. In the bay I could hit the 221 5 iron pretty consistently, and the 4 iron reasonably well, but I'm a little worried about how that will translate to the course. Probably more intelligent to just blend the set. I'm just not sure which other set to blend it with. I love love love the feel of the 221s, and I want to preserve that as much as possible. I've heard that the 223s feel almost as good, although I'm a bit leery about the wider sole. And of course I currently play the MP20 HMBs, so I'm reasonably familiar with how the 225's would feel. It's just so hard to swap out any of the 221s, even though I know that it's the smart move.

Do remember they will be released probably at the open - but the general sale might be jan next year (if my memory of the last release serves me right).

I wasn’t going to blend, was piping all of the 223’s (weirdly I really got along with the wider sole on them the best out of all 3 MP models - 221 and 225 felt similar on the mat) but the thought process was the fitter at PG said the 223 and 225 were similar but it will make your life a lot easier to step up there, plus Luke Donald does that (as well as a load of other players in different brands).

might be worth just going with the 4 iron as the 223 (which would be the identical set to Luke Donald)   The 225 fits the look better but might create a big gap at the top end.

Agree. TSA somehow destroyed my 3i so I ordered a replacement from Mizuno using the initial specs. Pre-COVID this would've been a week at most but for this order I was told 6-8 weeks, potentially longer. If it wouldn't have been for the financial / rational side of my brain I'd have a new set of Cobra Tour's in the bag at the moment.

Wedges: TaylorMade Milled Grind 3 48* / 53* / 58* | C-Taper 130x / S+

Any idea when we’ll see price drops on the 223/225 line?  I was custom fit for a set in March ‘22, ordered them on the spot.  Then my elbow popped playing in a tourney a month later, tearing my flexor tendon and damaging my ulnar nerve.  The irons literally arrived the Monday after the event so I never got to game them.  Not knowing if Id ever be able to play again since it was the 2nd time I’d injured thar nerve I sold the entire bag.  Finally had surgery and doc expects a full recovery, but am still 6 months out from being able to play so trying to slowly build the bag back, but with the new MPs coming out in ‘24 figured I’d wait to purchase the 225/223 combo when the prices dropped on the current line.

That’s sounds nasty AF.  Glad to hear you are still able to play.

think it will be a while for a price drop, I ordered mine from PG last month and paid full wack for them.   Think the price on them will only drop when the shops are getting rid of stock around Xmas time, so unless you are lucky enough to fit into a stock setup then you might not be in luck for a fitted discount set (plus if you are trying to get a combo set)

Good points. I think I will hold off on buying immediately until I can get on a sim and see some numbers for properly blending the top end. It's a bit of a drag since I want to immediately switch to my optimized shafts, but it's probably better in the long run for me to get the right set.

Could switch the shafts in your current gamers.  In the UK I think it’s roughly £350ish. - abit of a short term fix through if you are going to fully upgrade.

Slightly off topic - since I’m going into modus 120s shafts and you are coming out of them- I’m wondering what driver and fairway shafts pair well with them. What are you gaming in wood shafts?

Thanks.  It definitely won’t be stock since I need to go all graphite now.  I was hoping once they started taking orders for the next generation Mizuno would close out the remaining 223/225.

Hmm, that's a thought. Although it would be ~$350 USD to swap out the shafts, and if I'm going to upgrade the heads later anyway that would just make the process cost more. If I was going to spend that extra money on top of a full set of 221s I could just buy a 4 and 5 iron in the 223 and see how it goes. When you put it that way it doesn't really make sense financially.

I might not be the best person to ask about wood questions, since they're still a bit squirrely (definitely need to get fit again). My driver is an RDX Smoke Black 6.5, which works pretty well honestly but it's not quite "autopilot", I need to think about my swing mechanics. My fairway woods are RDX Smoke Black 6.0, which (like my irons) are left over from before I gained speed. Again, if I think about my mechanics and really focus, I can hit good shots. But if I get even a little lazy mentally then it's slice city.

When I was swinging slightly slower, I thought that the RDX Smoke Black 6.0 was really good in both of my fairway woods; they used to be the best clubs in my bag. Back then, I also had an RDX Smoke Blue 6.0 in my driver, which functioned very well for me. Maybe think about these (or, if you're adventurous, try out the Ventus Blue 6X).

You sound like you are a faster swing version of my own game.  I have the Hrzdus black as well and when it goes wrong I get the big high space shuttle launch flight.

Good shout on trying the hrzdus blue and ventus blue. Going to book in to try next week.

out of interest did you also go with the modus 120s in your wedges or something else.  (I’m changing the whole bag from x100, just too heavy and my swing gets out of sync too easy with them).

on the mizuno’s the 221 won’t change that much I think - just look back at the last few models.  Could go for them and wait for the new 223 / 225 to blend the top end.  (Or go vice-versa if it’s the top end where you are suffering the most with the shafts.

My wedges are DG S400s, but that's just because that's the stock shaft for the T22s. I need to buy new wedges to refresh the grooves (especially since the T22s dropped in price) but I want to wait until I have my new irons to get proper gapping from the PW...

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on the 6-PW in the 221s right now, and holding off on the top end like you suggest. I suppose in the unlikely event that the new models are some huge improvement I can always just resell them. And I suppose that any potential discounts wouldn't really be worth waiting for.

So, now that I've ordered I'm sure that Mizuno will make their announcement shortly. You're welcome everyone!

Have you considered blending the 221 with the JPX 923 Tour? It feels and looks like it sits between the 221 and 223. It's a bit more compact than the 223 and it feels incredible.

Nice one mate! I did the same a few weeks ago 223 PW-5, 225 in 4. Modus 120s with abit of extra weight in the hosel.

Miserly love’s company, so we can wait together for the post of some random photo of the new MP 2024’s to come out this weekend! 🤦‍♂️

Figures that the info comes a week after I place my order! Well, I'm not too upset, I absolutely loved the 221s in the bay. Unless the new models are revolutionary, I don't think I'll have any regrets.

Or maybe I will, and I'll flip the 221s for the new stuff. We'll see...
