Brief review Edison 2.0 wedges

Recommended Posts

Good evening,

I thought I would share my preliminary impressions of Edison 2.0 wedges.  Just a bit of background, I am a mid cap (14.0) whose major issue is putting.  I currently have Miura CB57 irons 3-PW and no desire for anything other that a forged club.  My previous wedges were Miura 1957 c grind 51, 55 and 59. I never thought I had a wedge "problem". I hit them well and was happy with the turf interaction.  I did find distance and accuracy a bit inconsistent,  Upon reading Terry Kohler's articles it became clear that perhaps these Miuras weren't the best choice for me.  By the way, I was custom fitted for the irons and wedges.  My irons and wedges are fitted with Accra iSeries i70 regular flex shafts.

After speaking with Bill Totten, I purchased the 51, 55 and 59 with the KBS PGI 70 gm shaft.  These are listed as A flex on the Edison website but R flex on the KBS website.  My first round out with them was an eye opener although I realized this may be the honeymoon phase.  First, I did not notice any change in well struck shots for distance.  Everything I had worked out a la Dave Pelz did not change with the Edisons.  This makes sense as one 59* club is subject to the laws of physics as any other.  The KBS shafts feel very similar to the Accra shaft and were a good choice.  They are playing to the flex I am accustomed to.

What I did notice was an amazing improvement in accuracy and distance control!  Shots were closer to the pin left and right and front to back.  Evidently, even with slight mis hits, the ball was staying on a more accurate line and distance did not vary as much.  The feel was very similar to the Miuras with a nice solid thunk I expect from a forged iron.  I can't comment on the V sole, but I was able to make all the shots like I do with the Miura.  If Miura made a game improvement wedge similar to the CB 57 cavity backs, this would be it!

The Edison's have v-soles, is that correct?  I have been looking at them a bit, but I'm concerned about the light shaft weights.  I don't play heavy shafts (100g), but I prefer my wedges to be 15 - 20 grams heavier.  No issues there?

They do offer 120 and 110 gram shafts per their website.  These wedges do look interesting.  Never really looked at them before.

I have 70g regular flex Accra shafts in my Miura irons and used them in my Miura wedges as well with no issues. I am finding the KBS PGI shafts feel very similar.  No issues whatsoever. The company is very “hands on “ and is happy to discuss your needs/concerns.

In terms of the V sole, it seems to work great. I have never fully understood all of the grinds available on wedges.  My Miura’s had what they call a C grind.  Worked well.

I play in the Northeast. I have used the Edison wedges on tight lies, rough and sand.  No issues with opening, square or closed face shots. Has that hard to describe pure feel of a forged club just like the Miura. The turf interaction is the same.

I have changed nothing in my setup for shots.  The difference is the amazing forgiveness for miss hits.

Agree. I just got one today and took it out for a spin. In a very brief trial I was very impressed.

Thanks for the review. I'm an Edison wedge user and enthusiast and would love to try the new ones but the 1.0s are still working great!

I would certainly NOT have purchased these if I had the 1.0 version.  I never tried the 1.0 version, but if these are close to the 2.0 version they must be great! I continue to be amazed how forgiving these wedges are. Strikes that are off by a bit still react like perfect hit.  I have been closer to the pin with the Edison wedges using them for 4 rounds than my Miura wedges after years of use.  Don’t get me wrong, the Miura wedges are beautiful and a great hit feels amazing. They just are not forgiving to my amateur skills.

I just got an email that they are selling the heads without shafts for $89. Pretty tempted.

Late answer, but well worth it. The 1.0 heads are 370.

Is there much difference between the og and the 2.0? I’ve got the og in a gap wedge with a 120g KBS shaft and it has been really good. As long as you keep the leading edge up a bit so it does not dig, you can swing these however you want and get good results.

I just don't get TK's pricing model. How does he justify same cost as Titleist and Cleveland when Edison is a direct to consumer brand? Should be some savings for the consumer for purchasing direct.

I got an email from them and you can get 2.0 heads for 139 is what he told me. You just have to contact them and let them know what you want. The first version heads are available through their site you just have to go down to the bottom of the page amd click the clearance link. It's really subtle

After politely challenging Edison on their pricing model on their facebook page they blocked me.

Previously when a certain someone revived a certain legendary brand is was a direct to consumer model. Had the same outrageous pricing model. Some year(s) later someone else stepped in to run the company and immediately dropped prices more in line with direct to consumer branding.

What were you hoping to achieve by challenging them on their pricing model?

I have one 2.0 with KBS PGI 100, 47* to compare to my Vokey's.  Small profile for a wedge, almost like a forged iron.  The 5 forging process works, they feel really good
