Ping in 2024?

Excuse my ignorance, as I've only just started paying attention to steel types, but aren't 17-4 and 431 fairly different steels? My understanding is that 431 is noticeably softer when it comes to bending as well as ball striking?

Indeed but both are stainless and inherently pretty durable. PING uses a pretty special design/treatment process to their 17-4 clubs which has made them super nice feeling - regardless of being extremely hard.

s56 and Tour-S chrome wedges were 17-4 and honestly some of my favorite feeling players irons ever. Also incredibly durable. No doubt with modern insert/elastomer tech they could make a club feel even better.

With that being said, I do think the Iblade + Glide 2.0 (also i230) 431ss is the best feeling. Not as durable though!

Saw rumor the other day that Hoveland was playing with some Ping (forged?) cavity backs.

There was a pod recently where Marty possibly accidentally mentioned G730 irons as he was going through the lineup of iron models. But, could also just be a slip of the tongue and he meant 710 or 430.

i525 doesn't look like a G430 / i230 tweener.  Its MOI and "C Dim" is lower than i230.  And its center of gravity is higher.

Let's take a look at the Eye 2 on the other hand... which is widely considered one of the best irons ever.  Its C Dim is right in the middle between the G430 and the i230.  And it has a .803 center of gravity.  Improve the MOI a bit and give it more modern bounce and it would be perfect.

I've played both i525 and i230. i525 is a smidge thicker on the sole and the toe, both GI features. Also stronger loft. Ended up switching to i230 because the feel was night and day better.

I’d be bummed if we never saw another iBlade / s55 style cast “Players CB”. I’ll hold out hope for an iBlade 2.0 or s54 (lol) but it’s not seeming likely.

Those are arguably their most successful players clubs ever and still remain in bags on tour. I59 looks and feels totally different.

Hoping 2024 brings something like that in a 17-4 or 431 stainless!

I still have my s55's in the bag and they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I'm waiting for the blueprint-s irons

Definitely looks more forgiving with that perimeter weighting than the current Blueprints.

The pics are of the S model. The T model is probably what you're referring to.

I'll go back to Ping irons when they make the G series feel as good as the PXG Gen 6's. I'm not sure how Ping is going to improve the G430 woods and hybrids.

Would like to see the new driver G435 go back to G410 size with 10k tech

I think they will be going with G440 this time.

400

410

425 (to avoid 420)

430

440

My hope is the next driver has movable weight and 10K. I feel the MAX drivers have a left bias that I need movable weights to nullify which is why I have stuck with the G430 Max and not moved to the 10K.
