Need new ball with durability

Spalding SD Tour and Tour X.  The balls are urethane covered and are extremely durable.  they can also be had for cheap.  I purchased several dozen off ebay for less than $13 per dozen.

My favorite ball of all-time are the Pro V1 balls up until about 2008.  The balls up until then did not scuff.

Even after the major ProV-family design changes in 2013 the Pro V1/Pro V1x were both very durable. About as good as anything I've played except for the original 1st-generation ZStar XV which was like metaphysically indestructible.

I've been playing with the '22 AVX and '21 and '23 PRO V1.  For all three I've been able to play at least 18 holes with little to no wear on the ball.  Played in a tournament on Monday using a '21 PRO V1 and had one minor abrasion on the ball from a bunker shot on my 11th hole, but kept playing it.  Hit 6 of the last 7 greens with 4 really good looks at birdie, so it clearly didn't affect playability.

@North Butte I once played something like 60 holes with one of the early Z Star XVs before I lost it in a hazard.  Those things were crazy resilient.

For DTC balls, try the Sugar Pure. I've played the same ball, every shot, for 54 holes, and other than a scuff from hitting the cart path on the 16th hole of the 1st round, you can barely distinguish it from one that has never been hit. The price is attractive, as you don't have to spend big bucks to get a reasonable price.

Need help with picking a new ball that won’t scuff up after two holes. Was fit into chrome soft x but the cover just scuffs after a few holes which sucks. Any similar balls with great durability?

Vice Pro, Pro-X are very durable.

Agree.  Unless you hit cart paths and trees often, the balls you listed are tough as nails.  The ProV1x and ProV1 are also pretty bullet proof IMO.

The Z-star line is fragile.  Scuffs easy and and the seams tend to crack after awhile.  Performance is second to none though.

I do think some of the statements here about ProV-family and Srixon balls are possibly out of date. For me the current Pro V1/Pro V1x balls are pretty durable but no question based on my experience they are more prone to slight scuffs and nicks than the same models from a few years ago. And while the early ZStar XV was indeed bulletproof there are a LOT of complaints about current generation ZStars.

Maybe it's just from cherry-picked anecdotes but I suspect both of those, as well as potentially other OEM's, are sacrificing just a bit of durability while trying to maintain optimum performance while catering to golfer's demand for ever "softer" "feeling" golf balls.

Hate to say it, but the Pro V1/V1X line has been substantially more durable than the other premium lines for me. I can't seem to get more than 9ish holes out of other balls before they need replacing while the Titleists last at least a full 18, if not more.

All the premium balls perform pretty similar for me, so the decision to switch back to Titleist this year was a no-brainer.

I've played Pro V1x for most of my golf the past 10 years but with the price increase this time around I decided to "just say no". It didn't last long, back to the Titleist for me now.

The very first Pro V1x in the first sleeve when I switched back picked up a couple very, very slight nicks after one round but I played it a couple more rounds before it got another scuff. Got several rounds each out of the next two balls then the first ball in the second sleeve really did get torn up badly by a rock in a bunker. Switched to another ball and it has two rounds on it with no visible damage.

So from that short time, overall I do think they are not QUITE as durable as say a 2013 or 2017 Pro V1x was for me. But on average they are still holding up well enough to get, say, half a dozen rounds or more out of a three-ball sleeve. That's a little better than TPU balls like Chrome Soft or Tour B, based on my recent experiences.

Even at $55/dozen as long as I am not needing more than a dozen balls a month (for 15-20 rounds) it doesn't make sense to try and get by with a $40-$45 alternative I don't like as well and that may get damaged easier. But on the rare occasions I do hit one into a pond or something I can't help but think, "Wow, there goes 5 bucks!".

I find the Chrome Soft  line to be quite durable, the Bridgestone balls are very durable, Srixon is mixed, Titleist I cannot comment on, TaylorMade I find awful lately.

Titleist DT Trusofts are amazingly rugged.  My first choice if you hit cart paths and trees.

Nothing in the rules says you can't bounce a ball off a cart path to get more distance.

If it rolls along the cart path and stays there, you are entitled to take free relief, and drop the ball onto a better lie.

Unless there is a local one ball rule, you could substitute a Pro V1 for better wedge spin before taking that drop!

Sometimes golf is easier if you play by the rules versus always playing it as it lies.

Taking free relief and substituting a better ball for that wedge approach shot may actually be a better option than that illegal "foot wedge!"

As far as ethics go, I see Pro golfers constantly launching their ball into the stands and taking advantage of the free relief rules.

I have been very impressed with Vice Pro durability as well as the new Pro V1 lineup.  I really like the Bridgstone BXS ball but it is not as durable as the other 2 mentioned.

oh wow... my bad with the Srixons.  I've been out of the premium market for a bit mainly playing Kirkland.  Thinking about it, a very durable ball that I played for a few weeks (was given a 3 pack) was the TP5x.  Played multiple rounds with 1 ball and they held up great.

Titleist is hands down the most durable ball I’ve played. I LOVE the Chrome Soft X, but I’d have to change them out every round, and sometimes every 9 holes. Bellow is a ProV1X after 4 rounds. It’s no comparison. I found the Tour BX to be similar durability as the CSX.
