Do the ZX7 MK2 have THAT much offset?

MtlJeff

Recommended Posts

Hello gang.....I'm on my annual quest for new irons. After a year of switching back and forth between PXG blades, and my Sub70 659s.....i've come to the realization that more offset i think is better for me. I just have a bit more confidence behind the ball and i get a bit better trajectory.

That being said i still enjoy a smallish club. The Sub70s work for me pretty well but i'm not sure the shaft i have in them is really optimal. They fit the profile of what i like....A decent amount of offset, smallish cavity back

The ZX7 seems to have even more offset than the 659CB (a club that many users will say itself has a decent amount for a players club). Does it appear that way behind the ball? I was kind of shocked when i examined the specs. They have a decent amount more than even the Sub70s.....and far more in some clubs than even the Ping I230....They also come with a shaft i have tested very well with (Modus 120)

So i'm thinking these may be the perfect club for me. Can anyone who has played them comment? What do they look like at address etc? Do they appear to really have that much offset in a players club?

I can't demo them until next year....

I honestly don’t think they have that much offset visually. I have some in my storage unit I’m about to get out and sell. I’ll post some address photos if someone doesn’t beat me to it in the next day or two.

Ok thanks, it's interesting because I feel like the Sub70 659s it's pretty noticeable. I've seen a few people mention same thing

But, on paper the Zx7 actually has more. But sometimes at address it's a different story

When I look at sub 70 clubs on their website, the offset looks awkward, so I can understand why you’re wondering about the srixons. I also have some zx5’s (mk II) that are bent two degrees weak. Two weak and those ZX5s look like they have virtually zero offset.

So once you see zx7 at address, you couldn’t bend them weak if they’re not attractive. Plus, if you happen to be a low spin player, that would help too.

My 5's are bent one degree weak, and yeah, to the eye they look to have little to no offset.

I ordered the sub70 demo clubs in the 659cb's and the offset looked huge to me.  Couldn't do it.  I'm now playing a combo ZX7 mkII p-8 zx5 mkII 7-5 set and the offseet doesn't look nearly as bad.  May say otherwise on paper, but to the eye the Sub70's looked game improvement levels of offset to me.

I totally get it.....The Sub70's look legit strange at address. Because it's a very small clubhead (the topline on the long irons is comparable if not smaller to my PXG blades) but the offset looks enormous

That being said, i hit my 659's super straight and with a ton of confidence. I just wish i launched them a bit higher.

If the ZX7's were similar with like a Modus 120, i might take a shot at them. It sounds like maybe not the case though

Owning both the ZX7 and the i230, I can honestly say that no matter what paper says the i230 definitely show more offset.  I don't think by any means that ZX7 show too much.  Don't know about the sub70, have never seen them in hand but I would consider the ZX7 to be one of the least offset looking CB out there.  If that's a worry, don't heistate to look at the Z Forged... really forgiving and look super clean.

Maybe not the right shaft in the sub70's?

Yeah , I took a flyer on the 659s and they had limited shaft offerings. So I just got KBS tours. Overall I hit them very good. I actually really like the irons. But my launch with the 4 and 5 irons is really bad. I've posted a few times about this in my WITB.

I need elevate tours or something like that for those irons or I'm not optimal

There's cheaper fixes for sure but part of me also just wants to buy new stuff

You buy new stuff?  Not you.  I think you're the only one who changes irons more than I do. I just don't post about it.  I had to question your statement of "annual quest for new irons".  🤣

Long irons in ping are very offset but almost zero in the short irons. Mizuno 223 are great and have a bit. I okay the MP20 MMC and they have a nice amount of offset that is blended well.

Like mentioned above, the shorter irons aren't as noticeable but the longer irons (4-6), it can be seen.  It's not a bad thing, but not as player looking as the ZX7.  I find them to be a little hooky, so I went back to my Srixons and they seem to be straighter for me.  The i230 are fantastic irons... feel great, perform great, sound great... nothing wrong with them and if you like a little offset I think these could provide a lot of what you are possibly looking for.

If I can snap a couple pics tomorrow I will.

That's something i noticed with the specs, around the 7 iron or so it drops considerable (on the I230). It goes from having like the most of any players CB, to being comparable to blades in the short irons

This doesn't bother me much. It's mostly the longer clubs i'm interested in.

I've started playing the ZX7 MK2's this year and absolutely LOVE them. Long time Mizuno iron player and have been incredibly impressed with the ZX7s. I wouldn't say they have a lot of offset. When I was looking in the spring, I really wanted to buy the '21 T100/T100s.  The Titleist offerings have very little offset. Now if the T150's had been available....🙂

In all seriousness, I think the Srixon's have incredible feel and good performance while the Titleist have incredible looks and good performance.

I've never seen the Sub70 659's in person, but in looking online they remind me a bit of the Muira CB302s.  It is a strange look and reminds me of older blades/irons that had more offset.  Not sure this is all that helpful, but in terms offset in modern irons, I find the Srixon's to be middle of the road in terms of modern players CBs.

A couple more address photos of the zx7 mk II 7 iron. Definitely has some offset, but I feel like it’s hidden pretty well.

Anyone here bend their ZX7 2 degrees week? If so, did that completely eliminate offset or was there still a little? I'm considering doing this but don't want zero offset. Also, any feedback on resulting bounce is appreciated.

Thanks for all the pics and feedback guys... especially @Nixhex524 and @Arlin964

I'm strongly considering a ZX7 and RTX iron/wedge combo buy.

While they might not be as offset as I want, the shaft offerings, price, reviews and etc are all spectacular. Plus I have Srixon woods so I mean....

Gonna chew on this a day or two

The RTX wedges are pretty damn good, I’ve been a Callaway wedge guy for years.  Have Srixon irons so have a 54° zipcore a try this year.  I now have matching zipcore Z in 46,50,54 & 58.  First time ever going away from a set PW.

Sadly I didn’t have the same luck with the ZX7,s but that’s another story 😃

Do not look at them.  Go buy now and be happy till the blueprint T&S are released.

Also wondering/considering this.  Have seen some threads about the odd nuked ball with zx7 which is concerning.  +10/15 yards randomly would be a round killer potentially
