NFL Weekly Picks 2023

Welcome gentlemen to another year of testing our prognosticating skills by picking weekly games in the NFL. My co-commissioner NJBF and I would like to say thank you for participating. We are going to have a good bit of fun all season long. 

 

To those of you that have done this with me in years prior I have decided to do it a little differently this year. I have simplified it. 

 

Here is how the contest will work this year. 

We will be making 3 picks each week.

I will post the Vegas line every Monday morning and we will be using that line to make our picks.

You may pick a side or a total. For example if the line is Tampa -7 vs New Orleans and the total points are 54 you may take Tampa -7 or New Orleans +7 or you could pick Under 54 points in the game or Over 54 points. So every game has 4 different picks that you could select from. 

These are the Point Values. 

A correct pick is worth 5 points.

A tie or push is worth +2 points.

There are Zero points for a loss. 

 

Announcing the Power Play. 

You may make a Power Play ONCE EVERY 4 Weeks ONLY. 

Example: A participant sees a pick that he feels strongly about and decides to designate it his Power Play. 

If his Power Play hits he wins +20 points.

If his Power Play pushes/ties he wins +5 points.

Now if his Power Play loses he LOSES -10 points. 

Once again The Power Play can only be used by a participant once every 4 weeks. 

The Power Play is optional, you do not have to use a Power Play. 

 

You can greatly help your co-commissioners by doing the following ...........

Do your best to get your picks in by Wednesday afternoon so I am not compiling picks all week long. 

Please once the week is over and you have your results post them in a timely fashion so our statistician Big Fish has everyone's weekly results for the Standings. 

 

This contest will run for the entire Regular Season. 

We will start a new contest specifically for the Playoffs. 

We will be crowning a Regular Season Champion, a Playoffs Champion, and an Overall (Regular season and Playoffs combined ) Champion. 

 

The new season is only a few weeks away so I wanted to get the thread started early and make sure all the participants understand how the contest works. If you have any questions post them and either myself of Big Fish will answer them. 

 

Remember there is no money involved in this contest. 

 

FINDING "WEEKLY" POSTS

 

Every week the gentlemen running this tournament, @touch and @NJBigFish22 make posts about the lines for the coming week.

 

As well, they also make posts about the results/standings. Given all the posts on the thread, these posts can be difficult to find.

 

So, in "official" weekly posts such as the week’s lines, results, whatever, Mr. touch or Mr. BIGFISH will start their posts with “WEEKX” where “X” is the week number, followed by “LINES”, “RESULTS”, “STANDINGS” or similar.

 

Why, you ask ?

 

This is so all members of the group can easily find any week’s lines or any week’s results using the board’s search function.

NOTE: These instructions are for a desktop browser. For a smartphone, you’re on your own. LOL

EASIEST WAY - It’s likely, that when you want to find these posts, you’re already within this NFL Picking thread. If so, simply go to the upper right-hand corner, type WEEKX (X being the week # you’re looking for) into the search box and either hit “ENTER”, or click on the spyglass.

If you’re anywhere else on the board, clicking on the “spyglass” in the upper right-hand corner of any forum page, without entering anything, takes you to the main search page.

From the MAIN page, type in WEEKX (X being the week # you’re looking for) and hit your “ENTER” key - or if you’d rather, scroll down and hit “Search Content”

From the search result snippets of either method, you should easily be able to pick out the post you’re looking for.

Hopefully, the Commish will put a LINK to THIS post in the opening post of this thread so you can easily find these instructions if you forget what to search for.

To add to what @touch said there is 1 more way to earn points.  Each participant will need to pick 1 team from the NFC and AFC as their preseason Super Bowl picks.  You also need to provide a point total.  These need to be posted before first game of the regular season.  
 

Example:

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles- Total points 70.

If the 2 teams you pick make it to the Super Bowl and your total points are within 7 points, you will earn a 50 point bonus added to the overall standings.

The lines I post on Monday are set for the entire week. You only pick from those lines. Kind of like a parlay card that is put out in a Sports Book aen. Once the line is set it's set. So line movements throughout the week have no effect on our contest.

I should add that you picks are not set in stone once you make them each week. In the event a key player is scratched, or the weather forecast is all of sudden different, or you just changed your mind you can change your pick. Just make a new post stating what pick you are cancelling and what is your replacement pick.

I never got my medal last year.  I can only go up.  Hopefully I don’t go 1-14 over the first 3 weeks like last year.

I've checked her page and she only had a fantasy football offering up so far.

I'd expect her to do some reporting from a few teams training camps in the next two weeks like she did last year NJBF. 

 

The Michigan girl is looking good in baby blue this summer.

I’m sorry, Annie made so many appearances last season I thought she was 1 of the boys.  Just better looking than 99.99% of us.

I would feel safe in increasing that number to 100%!

 

And I agree that a little Annie is enriching...her 2 minute NFL meeting videos are fast-paced and funny.  I think she is at her finest when she doesn't try so hard to be an Instagram influencer/model.  Just my .02!
