No offense to you or Mr. Cameron, but the "one that started it all" was THE ONE I mentioned in Azinger's bag that Mr. Cameron has made a fortune copying 😀

What I meant was the one that started the Cameron empire ... But you are correct, all the Newports and BB1s and everything else are just duplicates of Mr. Solheim's work.

And Karsten's first putter, the one that started his empire, was actually the 1A.

I knew what you meant... I was just messing with you.  For a guy who was born in 1993, the OP might actually relate to the Cameron better.  But good luck finding one of those Classic I's, huh?

1993 was the summer leading to my last year of high school. I could not stay off the golf course, was either caddying or playing, and here is some gear that I remember well:

Founders Club The Judge was a hot setup in driver. If you want something really nice and a piece of history, look for a Wood Brothers Texan!

The Cobra Baffler FW clubs with the big metal cleat on the bottom were everywhere still. I always thought of these as OG hybrids.

Ping Eye 2 irons in BeCu are a must. Get that 2i or 1i in the bag but you’d better put a high spin ball in play too 😁.  If you don’t want all Ping, the Tommy Armour 845s were great irons.

The Eye 2 BeCu LW might be the single best golf club I’ve ever had in play.  I actually wore at least one totally out. I have one more left but I don’t play it these days.

Putter could be anything. A Ping BeCu maybe a Zing, a Ping Pal, an 8802…

For the bag you need a Ping L8 or a Jones IMO.

Just picked up a mint set of Zings 3-SW and decided to build a mid 90s bag for local executive 9-hole course. Here's the setup:

Driver - Callaway Great Big Bertha 10 with RCH Firm Shaft

Woods - Callaway Great Big Birtha 4 Wood with RCH Firm Shaft & Heavenwood RCH Firm Shaft

Irons - Ping Zing 3-9, PW, SW

Putter - Zebra 34"

Bag - 1996 Ping Hoofer

In 1993, I was playing a set of '92 Ben Hogan Apex Forged Ft Worth irons.  Can't remember if they were 1-SW or 2-SW.  That was also the year the Ping Zing driver came out, but I was still using a Hogan Apex Persimmon in Driver and 4w.  Those were likely a '90 or '91 model since I didn't change often.

Great idea.  Enjoy those clubs.  For my generation they aren't old or vintage, just stuff we used to play.

Yeah I realise for some it's just their old gear, but to me it's a whole new game. I'm looking forward to it. Plus I'm being swayed towards the Apex irons

Would love to get one but a bit out of my budget unfortunately. As a side note I do have an oval back AoP Newport

Wow, 1993, I was a senior in HS, on the varsity golf team and working at the local muni. Life was simple and good. Everyone’s suggestions are spot on.

You can see in my signature - J’s Professional Driver, TM BurnerPlus 3w with Flex-Twist Titanium shaft, BeCu Eye2’s and a Cleveland “designed by” Crenshaw putter. I mixed in a Ram Watson sand wedge too. Still have all of these today, although the SW is basically grooveless. 👍🏼 The MacGregor CB 92’s were unattainable for me at the time but I picked up a set a couple of years ago. They are solid. Real solid.

Fairways and Greens!!

I just looked, apparently today's version is called Fat Man...

Maruman Conductor Pro's. The SX or 41's is my pick.

Hogan Ft. Worth's rock too.

Greg Norman Signatures....if you are daring

Titleist DCI's were a thing then too, I think.

Tommy Amour 845's too.

Taylormade metals.

Ray Cook putter MX1(?)

The 90's had good gear  imo.

Those Greg Norman signature irons 😍

1993 was my Ben Hogan time.

Had a staff bag like Tom Kite with a set of Edge GS irons, BH Driver, 3 and 5 wood. BH wedges and a Ping Putter.

University golf, 92 was my epic year, 25 and fit

i’m voting for eye 2’s, Anser putter or Wilson 8813, tm burner 3w, persimmon Titleist 5w, and my old favorite, Bridgestone whopper driver … the driver was a game changer for me

i had tm blades but eye2’s speak more of that time frame I feel … the rest of the bag were my gamers.  I could shoot par with a hangover and minimal effort

Here are some Ben Hogan clubs 2003-2004 from Edwin Watts golf catalog. Still have my Watts catalogs from 2002-2013.

I remember that exact advertisement very well, thanks for sharing!

Never bought the irons, but I did have a sweet Hogan H40 hat that I wore completely out.  🙂  I also attribute my life-long love of bunker play to the Special SI sand wedge.  Carried that, and an Eye 2 BeCu LW.  Come to think of it that would be a great bottom-of-the-bag setup today.

Can't believe I forgot about the Fat Lady Swings.  I still have mine, bought it new after seeing Nick Price catch fire with it.  Was in my bag for years and years and years......and it shows.  🙂

It's interesting comparing those prices in 2023 dollars.  Using the CPI Inflation Calculator, the Edge irons from 93 would be $1,083, and the wedges about $129 each.

The driver is the most amusing, it translates to $189 in current US dollars.  🙂

Don't forget about your Balata 80, 90 or 100 balls from Titleist or Strata.  If you like a more firm ball, those Ping balls that were half of one color and half of another.  Foot Joy Classic shoes with the leather soles that you had to custom order.

I think balatas may be pushing it for me 😂 I still need some modern technology to help me out. However I can’t deny how beautiful FJ classics are

I just looked on eBay and boxes of Tour 100 Balata balls going for $100, or so.  I might have played a sleeve for $10, but no thanks.  Clubs a fraction of what they were in 1993 and balls many times more.  🙂

I still have a pair of the later Classics in Gator or some other lizard that have soft spikes in them.  So comfortable.  The leather is probably rock hard by now.

93 -let's see probably a set of Woosie Maurman - though a set of Joe Powell CB were always lurking.

The original  S2H2 driver(Fenwick 6.0 i think?)and dbl dot 3wd were definitely in the bag. Seems I had twist flex 5wd- most likely the original Heavenwood and some type of  Cobra railer 7wd on rotation.

Ping Eye 2+ BeCu  SW & BeCu Eye 2 SW were in the bag, as well....main stays from the late '80s.

And a BullsEye flange.... always

How did we ever hit clubs that tiny and unforgiving?

YES!!!  I always used the Titleist Balata 90's for the simple fact I like the red number. Today, I use the Snell MTBx ball and it has a red number :).  FootJoy Classics are sorely missed!  Working at the muni I was able to get a pair or two a year at "pro price."  I wore them until the soles wore out...still lament changing from steel to softspikes.  I miss the "crunch" on the cart paths.
