Anybody gone back to Eye 2s full time?

My "spare" bags are right next to the back door, and I'm constantly tempted by my old Eye 2s. I know they're a full club weaker, but I have such great memories ... Has anyone given up on new irons and gone back to Eye 2s for good? If so, why ... And how's it going?

Driver: Titleist TS3, 8.5°

2 Wood: Adams InSight XTD, 10.5°

Fairway: Callaway Rogue ST Max LS, 18°

I played my Karsten IIIA’s last two times which are even older than Eye2’s and I could play them full time. Those wedges are so good, mid irons go high and soft and I can hit 4i or 3i with low penetrating flight of the tee. Combined with persimmon woods and laminate can do it all 5wood they make so fun bag to play. Go for it, chances are you will score similar to newer bag like me.

I flip-flop between my Eye2 and my Callaway RazrX.  Both are outstanding sets and I would be content playing full time with either set.  Even when I'm playing the Callaway irons, I still use the Eye2 sand Wedge full time in the bag.

FW-4/7 woods--Callaway Paradym

Irons 4-5--Callaway Apex

Irons 6-PW--Callaway RazrX w/steel Uniflex-- shafts

Putter--Odyssey White Steel

I can vouch for this idea with the persimmon woods.  I used to have a Louisville Golf persimmon driver and along with the 7-wood and those are some of the sweetest hitting clubs I've ever played.  When you do hit them on the sweet spot, you can hit some bombs with the persimmon woods.

I play mizuno mx17 as my newer set, although still old. But similar type to yours razrx and 5 years older. They are more forgiving for sure, but scoring is similar for me.

The original setup with ping stock shafts are just too weak. To make it work I'd suggest reshafting with a stouter, lower launching shaft. Keep the originals just in case you sell them  some day

I had a full set of the "plus-no-plus" Eye2s (2-LW). Sadly, they were stolen out of my garage about 14 years ago. If I still had them, I'd most likely still would be playing them--but, as suggested, probably would've invested in installing something like PX 6.5 LS shafts.

They are BeCu. I'm not a fast player, so I'm looking at either Zelos 8s or I'm thinking the black Recoil Smacwraps would look good against the copper heads. Those are my favorite irons shafts.

I have a retro bag that includes the Ping Eye2 irons 5-sw along with Callaway Big Bertha "Deuce" 2-wood and the matching 7-wood; probably one of the first iterations of the Heaven Wood.  If my current set was taken away, I would happily play this old set.  I've hit some bombs off the tee with that old GBB Deuce 2-wood.

I have an ISI tour laminate 5 wood that I want to get reshafted, that thing would make a pretty sweet hybrid, imo.

I had the 7wd...it saved me so many times, then the i3 ended its run

That thing felt so good off the face, but I haven't played it with a modern ball, or shaft.   There is no way those laminate heads could compete with a modern 3 wood or driver, but I feel like in that middle part of the bag it could be fit to hit a number, and they were reasonably forgiving for me ( in my totally infallible memory)

Yes/No.  :>)  Had been switching between my Eye 2 SST and my Eye 2+ BeCu's.  Really enjoy either one of them.  Recently got into a set of Srixons and have been playing some great golf with those.  The Pings will never leave me as long as I play the game.  Would play the Eye 2's for the rest of my golfing days, if I needed to...and enjoy every round!!!

Not back to Eye 2’s, but I put the new Wilson Staff CB’s away and I went back to my BeNi ISI’s which are 1 1/4” over length with oversized non-tapered grips.  I’ve shot my two best rounds of the past two years in the last month with the ISI’s and my bunker play has done a complete 180.  I have never been as good out of the sand as I have been with the ISI’s in the bag.

I had planned on building a new set Wilson Staff CB’s with some X flex shafts but am now thinking “what’s the point?”, old Pings give me everything I want.7F716647-9DB0-4343-8354-00B5C64E6337.jpeg.9513b8de526f7026270f5a3a3c8129a7.jpeg

I’m in the exact same position. “What’s the point” is my exact thought when looking / trying any other iron set. ISI BeNi gives me everything I’m after in irons  with some retro bag appeal at the same time. I don’t need or want to fly a 7 iron 185 yards (160 is where I need my 7 iron to carry) and I don’t enjoy the feel of goo injected in my irons. ISI it is then. Long live old Ping.

Hit my dad's Eye 2's this morning with zz lite shafts, and newish GP tour velvets.

Feel like a typical cast club.  Head shape takes some getting used to.  Ton of offset, which also took a while to get used to.  These seemed to have much less bounce than my zx7's, and dug a little deeper pelt than normal.

Other than that, they are okay.  No reason someone couldn't play a round of golf with them, and score about the same as with the new stuff.
