Rain pants that aren't giant?

I recently ordered a pair of sun mountain monsoon pants and they looked like a pair of JNCO pants I had when I was 15. Shopping online, it's hard to tell how big the legs are. Anyone have any suggestions on rain pants that don't look like I'm wearing a trash bag? I know the Kjus and Galvin Green stuff is the best, but I simply can't afford to spend that much.

few years ago I bought a pair of the Hagen brand at DSG. they have a snap waist closure and the seat and legs aren't huge. the bottom of the pants has the zipper and velcro closure.

they're OK for light rain but a downpour might soak through.

I take a pair of Marmot hiking rain pants with me. Have had them for years (back when I was stupid enough to climb mountains for fun), so I don’t remember what I paid, but they are extremely well tailored, have a goretex liner, and very packable. Can stand up to a deluge. Would recommend looking at Backcountry.com for something similar. A good pair from one of the good brands will be well tailored. That’s part of what you pay for with expensive rain gear.

Check out Galway Bay. I picked up some unlined ones from them a while back and they're definitely more streamlined than typical rain pants. I don't see the unlined on their site anymore but some other options. They're running 35% black friday deals so the inventory might be slim.

I think the reasons they are so baggy at the ankles is:

 

1) so that it's possible to put on and take off while you have your shoes on.  

2) more breathable as the material is likely not to be.

Ordered a pair of marmot precip pants, they look to be exactly what I'm looking for! Thanks for the suggestion!

Got a pair in the summer, my view is that they are not baggy. Enough space to put on top of my regular trousers but they don’t feel bulky and with plenty stretch in them so as not to restrict my big boy thighs 😂

definitely not baggy.  I love my KJUS pants.  Does not inhibit mobility.

Adidas rain pants seem less baggy to me. Fairly reasonably priced as well.

@ZGriswold83 not necessarily rain pants but if the forecast has a chance of rain, I just wear the chubbies waterproof pants. Basically they’re just normal pants aren’t intended to go over regular pants or anything.

Look at LL Bean waterproof hiking pants. I hated the big baggy rain pants so looked into these for my first Scotland trip. Wear and look like regular pants but no water.

Now after multiple trips across the pond I wear these exclusively if its raining or not. Especially If you're a dew sweeper...no more wet cuffs...

They even have lined pair so got that as well for colder situations. 70 bucks or close so Win- Win.

Galway Bay all weather trousers are real pants that are waterproof, not exterior rain pants, they’re awesome

Surprised Galvin Green hasn’t been mentioned yet. Great rain gear, their sizing chart is on the nose, and certainly not baggy in the pant.

Bit late but I would recommend going for some european brands. Those are usually a lot slimmer in the legs, arms, and stomach. 

Lindeberg is one of the best fits I have had myself and by far the most comfortable. Look at sales. I picked mine up last summer for 80euro.

I second Galvin Green, they also have a short option for length.  Modern fit, expensive but worth it
