Degree symbol - you don't have to use *

Maybe no one knows or cares, but I see people using the asterisk symbol (*) for degrees, i.e. " I play a 9* driver."

 

There is a degree symbol. On Android, it is on page 2 of the symbol library, bottom row. 

 

For me, right above the 2/2 button. You can type "I play a 9° driver."

 

Not sure if most know this, but thought I would show it for those who hate using the asterisk, but don't know another way to symbolize degrees.

On a windows keyboard it’s alt-167.  IIRC.

Ipad and iPhone, go to numeric keyboard.  Hold down the 0 key, slide up to select the degree symbol.

I didn't post the mac/iOS versions because I don't have those devices. I knew the windows one was there because I have had to use it, so thanks for that. 

 

@SnowbirdTom, shift-8 only applies if using a window keyboard. I am using an android tablet now and my android phone earlier, so there is no shift-8:

Lol. I just see it so often and had a feeling most people didn't know it was there somewhere. It isn't like we don't know what it means when people use the * symbol, but I figured some people would want to know.😁

I am using a Chromebook.  This is what Google says.

 

There is no dedicated key for the degree symbol, but you can use this shortcut: Press Ctrl+Shift+U, release, type 00B0, then press Space. How to insert the degree symbol on Chromebook? On a Chromebook, you can type the degree symbol by pressing Ctrl+Shift+U, then type ’00B0′ and press the Spacebar.

 

I tried it and it does not work.  I just copy and paste the symbol from somewhere.

You can just also download a picture of it and just paste into the text, it works equally well

I've been using alt-248 to get ° to me alt-167 looks odd º but both work I guess.

 

Also it's much more of a hassle on mobile, computer is easier.

On the numeric keyboard, hold the 0 and slide up to the ° selection.

That’s easier than the one I found.
