Ping has been killing it with the tech on their clubs the last few years so I wil definitely be interested to see and hear more about this one. How long is it normally from the name registration until club info drops?

Unfortunately you can't get a lot that's definite just from the fact that Ping has filed.   One could expect it to be officially granted within 6 months.

But that doesn't mean that Ping can't move forward with using the name.   Their legal department surely did their diligence and considers it likely that it will be granted.   Having applied, as long as no conflicting usage comes to light, they could announce something today and have protection once the mark is official.

I'd think the goal would be for staffers to have them available prior to The Open.

I would think this is a ways out. They just released a new one not too long ago right??

or it could be something entirely separate from the crossovers I guess

yeah maybe. I have kind of lost track of Ping. They seem all over the place. Almost PXG'ish in their releases recently.

The iCrossover was a real winner though. I can't see them doing anything but leaning into that design

Do you see it as more of a driving iron, or a continuation of an iron set.  Thats the stuff I initially read is that its not longer like some other driving irons, but just higher launching and more forgiving.  I've always thought about getting one, but I've heard tweaking the lofts makes the offset look crazy odd.

iCrossover is not really a pure DI imo. It launches very nicely and is not a missile launcher

So something more optimized for low launch/low spin tee shots would sit nicely next to it. Other OEMs also have two Utilities. Think UDI and DHy, U505 and T200, MP 225 and Fli-Hi…

I grew up with some offset and don't mind it at all. I'm very big on aesthetics and the iCrossover looks great behind the ball. Really slender compared to a UDI or 505. As far as the distance goes, I personally found it to be an absolute rocket launcher. I got a few ball speeds that were creeping up into 3wood territory. It tested as the most forgiving DI I hit and was longer than the U500 it replaced by a good margin. The only thing I'm not crazy on is the sound, but I quickly stopped caring when I saw what that thing could really do.

They do, but I'm older, from that generation that really started on the offset train. Think PING Eye2 and 845 Silver Scot. I don't mind a touch of offset on something that works.

Damn I miss those old 845's lol

Agree with this. The Crossover line has been quite a high-launching iron.  Perhaps the DI will have more of a low-launching runner DNA.

Ya, good conjecture thus far.

It's unlikely they'd go to the trouble of doing a trademark, and trademarking a logo if they didn't plan to do it soon. I know it occasionally happens, but most of the time where there is smoke, there is fire.

I'm with those of you saying that the crossover isn't a DI. It's not. But I think it's clear that it's basically a nice 4-iron that isn't an SGI iron. If I had to buy another 4, it would be a hollow 4. Like an i530. I've never messed with the adjustability beyond a first crack at it, and I did not care for any changes. Lucky me, I guess. I switch to Black code from Red for my 5, so standard for 4 makes sense. But it's never as long as my 3-hybrid, that's for sure. It fills in all the rescue jobs that the hybrid isn't right for.

I can't ever see having a non-hollow top iron again. But a true Driving Iron… something low spin, low trajectory… I can definitely see a bullet-maker in the bag for that 4-iron on a windy day. Or 5-iron. Or lob wedge.

I still have a Rapture 2-iron for just this, but I've never liked its performance. It's more of a necessity club and it's been doing nothing since the iCrossover. A real DI would go there immediately.

RogueST 9@11º 3D (ADDI 6X), 425 3w 14.5º (TourX), 430 3h 19º & 4 iCross (HZRDUS Red 6.0), i230 5-U, G4 54º, GFP 59º (DART105F4). 2021 Fetch (BGT Tour Black).

"Golf is just a dance with a stick, and a ball tells you how good a dancer you are."  LCP150mm in your fairway should be a full-time rule.

I suppose I don't understand how the iCrossover isn't a DI? For a 3-iron, I hit bullets wit mine. It's turned down a degree, putting it at 19º I believe, which is plenty low for a 3 iron. I'm not trying to be argumentative, I guess it's just been my experience. I'm a high ball hitter and it's nice and flat for me, at pretty good ball speeds too. It certainly did the job that all my previous DI's did like U712, T-MB and U500, it just does it with more forgiveness.

It has a lot to do with spin and trajectory; mostly spin. If you drop the spin down to around 3000, you're going to see low fairway-wood looking shots. The current iCrossover has extra grooves to increase spin - it's often around 4000 or more. This isn't bad if you're using it as a replacement for an iron but don't want a hybrid, but it's not a go-low-by-design club.

In your case, that's what people want. It happens to fit you that way, which is great! You probably wouldn't want a specific driving iron if you're already getting piercing-but-low shots.

This is clearly a YMMV situation, you guys.

I have an iCrossover 2 with an Atmos Black 9X in it and it knows nothing but flat, boring missiles.

On the contrary, I have the iCrossover 3 with a TT AMT White S300 and I get a much higher flight from that. I also have the same Atmos as above for this one as well for when I want different length piss missiles.

Like any club in the bag, it depends on the player and what shaft ya throw in it.
