2024 Iron Choice

There is just to many threads to keep up with, so I’m stealing a page out of fellow Black&Yellow fan @Lumberjack627. Has anyone done a shootout yet with new stuff. As I’ve posted in other threads I got fit for T150 and didn’t pull the trigger. Now I’ve hit all the new stuff, but didn’t do a H2H comp. So I’m looking at T150, Mizzy 243, Apex 24 CB, Blueprint S.

Those are all such great irons with subtle differences in performance. In the end it will come down to look, sound and feel.   Though, the T150 may offer a slight distance advantage bc of the loft package.   Its a tough year bc the iron choices are pretty incredible!

Thanks for the shoutout as for the irons I would day try the mizuno or Srixon zx7 or zx5 as well. I’ve never been a fan of callaway or Taylormade irons so I can’t speak for those but I have played titleist mizzy and Srixon

Zx7 MKII are so last year 😋. I played those a handful of rounds. I think when I got rid of them the 5i and aw still had plastic on them. I just like trying the new shiny clubs.

Just completed and "informal" fitting with T150, Blueprint S and T, Mizuno. 

T150 and Blueprint S were almost identical in distance. The Blueprint were slightly higher launch but the 7 iron is 1 degree weaker. Similar feel off the indoor turf, hard to tell how the real-grass interaction would be. The Blueprint T was good but looked small and hard to hit. Actually hit it the same as the S but why would I punish myself with a true blade? 

I hit 3 balls with the Mizuno 243 and immediately ruled them out. The blade length is "stubby" and the overall shape looked bloated. 

Sold my Srixon ZX7 2-weeks ago--I don't regret it since the Titleist or Ping will be replacing them soon. Both seemed to be an upgrade compared to the Srixon (in forgiveness and feel).

If I were building a forgiving players set, I'd prob do ping i210 4-6 iron and ping blueprint s 7-pw. Those blueprints feel really good.

Had a fit of all the new stuff in my category a few weeks ago - T150, Apex Pro etc..

 

No gains to be had. Sticking with the 223's. Love em to bits.

I have a full bag fitting with CC in a few weeks. Irons are what I am prioritising, both of the Blueprints have my attention but seeing as I have never hit a PXG iron, they intrigue me and I do also have a soft spot for Miura.

We have some great offerings at the moment for sure

I tested several of the irons mentioned in this thread but the Cobra CB and Tour blew the others away so they should be high on your list to try before pulling the trigger on new irons.

I think as above you are splitting hairs in this category and it comes down to personal preference not performance. I Loved the Mizzy 243 more than the T150 which is also a fantastic club. Blueprint S is SO expensive and did not feel or look better that the Mizunos. I liked the Cobra King Tours and they seem to be really underrated across all of their clubs. The Srixon ZX7 mk2 was kinda clickly, weird feeling for me. Overall the 243 were the ones that put the biggest smile on my face and therefore they go in the bag. I have a feeling that 243 is gonna be a huge hit for Mizuno.

I know it’s not included in your list, but definitely check out the PXG 0317Ts. I thought it was going to be a short experiment and honeymoon with them when I I got them in the fall, but they ended up kicking out my T100S gamers. Have been in the bag since and still in honeymoon phase going on 5 months 😉. Perfect blend (for me and my game anyway) of feel, forgiveness, launch, distance, and dispersion. Easily gets through the turf as well. Have no desire to look or hit anything else. I don’t see anything out there to replace them in 2024.

Did you have any objection to the looks? Every time I look at a PXG iron I feel like someone went into their basement with an Erector set and went bananas. I'm sure after you hit it, it didn't matter but...

Looks are very subjective and varies person to person. Speaking for myself, I love the looks and almost identical to the 0317 blades. I opted for the Xtreme Dark finish. The screws and weights are black, so blends in nicely with the rest of the heads especially with the MMT shafts. You also can’t see any of the back and cavity once you set them down at address.

Played Tour for one round last season, traded for it, played it, then traded for something else I wanted.

Played PXG awhile ago, I like them just never crossed my mind to try them again.

I do love pushing people towards Mizunos, but this is great to hear. I have 0 intent on testing any irons for the forseeable future with my 223s, maybe test a 4-5 iron in the 245 but I doubt they'll make it rn.

Went to DSG again, hit T150, 243, BPS, all different shafts. Definitely was not hitting them as good as last week. That has eliminated Ping, I will just catch them in classifieds later this year. Just can’t justify paying that much right now. So Titleist is back ordered on MMT 95 4+ plus weeks, but have MMT 105 in stock. Was fit into 95 at CC fitting. Mizzy doesn’t offer MMT 95, but MMT 85,105 and recoil 95 at no upcharge. I leave three weeks from tomorrow. Any chance of getting for trip is order tomorrow.

I have the Mizuno 243’s coming next week.  I’ve played the zx7 the last few years.  Very good irons but lower spin.  Tough to hold the greens at the club I play at.  Lots of great choices out there!

Mizunos would be so nice if they didn't have so much offset...

I was in the same boat, was sure i was gonna do t150/200 blended set, but the 243s are just so good.

I think I’m going to play New Level 480-TC this year. Probably pull the trigger in March with Modus 120 S shafts.

Sticking with the PXGs since I just got them last year but might be tempted at the end of 2024 to go test the i230 and Blueprint S irons and maybe see what those can do for me.

I just swapped to 923 HMPs. I530 I am itching to try. I525 almost came home with me, but was hard to find. 

 

For me, loving the players forgiving size head. T200 for me didn't do anything for me.
