Zx7mkii troubles

Kale_m

Recommended Posts

Last season played 7mc with mmt125tx shafts

this year I have zx7mkii / zforgedii combo with mmt125tx shafts

i dunno what it is, i cant get clean contact with them, the 7mc felt so much cleaner through the strike. Sole issue? Lie angle issue?

I am a +hcp, I can strike the ball… anyone else not get along with them? The feel is great when I get it but seems inconsistent….

V Sole probably isn't suited for your ground interaction.

I have only hit these off mats (Canada) so maybe I don’t get along with the mat?

I did not have an issue with my 7mc off the mats though…..

will do one more lie angle adjustment (might be too flat) then make a decision after that…

I bought a set last season after playing Srixon z785s for the previous 3.  I couldn’t ever get a feel for them either, they felt too light to me and center strikes never felt solid to me either.  Both sets had the same specs as far as shaft, grips and lie angle.  I ended up going back to the 785s after a month of trying.

Until you’ve hit them off the grass the reason will be unknown.  Are they EXACTLY the same length?

I would wait until playing them to make adjustments that may not be warranted/needed.

Would love to, but kind of want my iron selection to be dialed in for the season. Our grass is under snow and frozen at the moment.  Season is short enough and don’t want to wait on clubs to come in when I could be playing….

I had the same problem with zx7’s.

p7mc, p7tw, apex txcb’s had no problems getting a clean strikes with.  For some reason the zx7 always felt chunky or thin strikes.  Heck even ping i210 and i230 were better for me.

Effectively these irons have a very thin sole with high bounce at the front. Good if you have a steep angle of attack.

I take a divot when I strike it, not crazy steep but take a divot. As you can see by the picture.

maybe it is just the mats I am hitting off.

I have the MKII ZX7 and I have always struggled with them off of mats, more so than me previous PXG blades and New Level blades.  They perform great off turf though

Seems to me like the v-sole needs to be perfectly dialed for lie angle or else it gets clunky.

Also, can’t speak to Mkii, but the ZX7 was too low spin a head for me. It’s possible that not seeing the flight you expect is making your brain change your swing. Just a thought. It’s like when I fit into a higher loft driver a while back. Same head, weight, etc. but the 9* was bad for dispersion. Same exact setup in 10.5 was great. In theory it should’ve just affected the vertical factors, but in reality it wasn’t that way. Fitter suggested it might just be what I sub-consciously need to see in order to put my normal swing on it.

Came to my fairly new ZX5/ZX7 combos three months ago from my CB 57's and MP 33's. I love those clubs for so many reasons and would never sell them, but when I tried a friend's ZX5's I realized that the Srixons have levels of consistent distance and dispersion that I've never encountered before even with no time for warmup.   The straight forgiveness has enabled me to swing more aggressively so I've actually picked up 10+ yards from the increased swing speed.  Spin is good.  But, I've never hit the ZX clubs off mats.  I'm a light to medium divot player and the V soles are really impressive.  So much so that I put my Vokey 56V and 60V wedges back in the bag.    The creativity enabled by these V soles is really working for my swings.  But that is just me.

I played the z745's for 6-7 years, and loved everything about them. I'm also a plus handicap and hit them very well. I tried 2 different sets of ZX7 Mk II's last year with different shafts and I could not strike them properly to save my life. It was strange how poorly I hit them. I've had Maltby TS3's in the bag for 6 months or so since and hit them great. I also found a used set of Mizuno Pro 225's that I hit well. I don't know if the V-sole changed a lot since the 745's or what, but the newest iteration was definitely not for me.

Never had any issues with srixon irons. Gamed 785, zx7, and zx7 Mkii and find them all to perform great and great turf interaction. Take divots and get in and out quickly. I’m slightly steep and my brother is shallow and we both love them. I’d give them a go on turf before deciding. Mats and v sole can be weird some times.

Hit them again today , even had the lie adjusted, just not for me….

local guy actually wanted to trade me his Mizuno 243 for them. So went ahead and did that.

Enjoy them! I’d have a tough time not taking that trade as well, and I love the zx7! Let us know how the 243 are!
