Viktor Hovland new swing coach

Very interesting what Viktor is doing after such a great season last year. Nothing we haven’t seen before (Tiger) but figured it would make for a good topic 😂

Will be interesting to see how it plays out. I like Grant's teaching style. Patty T has a hell of a swing. That being said, Viktor was probably the hottest player on the planet for a stretch last year. I didn't realize he had bounced around so many teachers. A true tinkerer.

Although, to be fair to Hovland, he has done well as the captain of his own ship. He has always been a tinkerer. Maybe he thrives in that environment. Or maybe this is one step too far into the weeds.

Looks like he took the bow out of his left wrist at the top. Will be interesting to see how Hovland progresses from here.

Vik was with Dana before Mayo I believe, and now Grant. Nothing wrong with trying to get better, but I just hope he doesn’t get lost. He was so good last year.

Yeah i'm glad later he pointed out that after making the changes he played some of the best golf in history, because it's a question that we'd need a time machine to answer. No one can say whether his swing retooling kept him at the top of the game or was a waste of time, because we can only every speculate based on literally only existing in one of those timelines.

That’s a good point. Pretty sure he worked with Jeff Smith for a short time too

He might go on a tear and dominate the majors and make a fool out of me, but IMO this move is batpoop crazy.

 

For a few months at the end of last year, Hovland was arguably the best player in the world. FedEx cup champion plus he was the standout player at the Ryder cup (most SG of anyone). You never know for sure, but it felt inevitable that a major title was coming sooner rather than later.

 

My thinking would have been for him to try to bring that same golf to the 4 majors this year and let the rest of the field try to deal with it. If he broke down under pressure this year at the majors and he felt that the issue was technical rather than mental, then I could maybe understand a change.

I’ve never met Joe mayo but from reading and listening to his interactions it doesn’t seem like he has a personality that players seem to tolerate for very long. With all that Viktor has been measured last year between force plates and the visit to jon sinclair it seems like he should have been able to be put his swing back where it was pretty easily so I see no reason to tear it all down.

mayo is such an odd guy, pretty consistent with narcissistic behavior. Look at his social media….Too intense and strong opinioned for Hovland undoubtedly

All I saw is hr helped get him over the hump with his sg theory. It helped me quite a bit as well as utb did not work for me one bit. I think victor got what he wanted from mayo which is better short game consistency. I believe hovlands game will forever be change by jm as far as short game.

I think he has a good heart deep down inside but I agree he seems like he has a lot of narcissistic behavior, passive/aggressive behavior, etc. I won't judge. I guess we are all a work in progress.

I don't care how "odd" a coach is...if I'm winning, I'm staying with him. Besides, the coach is raking it in when a Tour Player wins that much.
