Taylormade P770 Aged Copper

Anyone else seen these? I have not club Ho'd anything in years but saw them this morning and ordered on the spot.

 

Felt like they were screaming for some Lamkin UTX Green Cords too so went ahead and ordered a set of those while I was at it. Luckily they'll ship the clubs without grips installed so that made it easy at least.

 

Been playing JPX 900 Forged for about 7 years so it was probably time for a change I suppose.

 

Am I crazy?

Or can you custom order and (PLEASE!) order as a blended combo set of P770/P790's? If you can, I'm in 😍

You can custom order these but only as a full set with the option to change shafts and loft/lie, etc.

Didn't think a combo set would be possible, but worth checking just in case........

 

As I have a 2021 set of P790's I guess the P770's might be worth a spin for these new Copper sets. How would anyone that has tried both the P790 and P770 compare the 2 sets overall please?

The P770 to the P790 isn't as big a jump as some might think. If you're making improvements, go for the P770. It is a more slimmed-down version of the 790 and still possesses forgiveness. I used the 770s for a time and shot my best round - maybe I should go back to them? 🤔 😂 

 

I can recall a shot where I nearly missed the entire face trying to cut the shot around tree trouble; I caught the toe so badly, but the ball still hit the green. I was shocked. The P770 will also spin a few RPMs more than the P790 model. The nice thing with these clubs is that they get the ball into the air quickly so as long as your descent angle is 44-48°, you're fine.

Echo'ing this - I was able to custom spec everything including loft/lie, shafts and grips, ideally I'd like an option for swingweight there too but did not see it but after I ordered I emailed them to ask if that was possible.

 

Ultimately I went with KBS $ Tapers and no grips so I can add the UTX Green Cords

It sounds like the P770's would be viable and a point of difference to the P790's I have and will probably keep anyway. Appreciate your thoughts here, very helpful MT.

Had no clue about these irons until I saw them at Golf Town's Facebook feed.  TM has really done a good job keeping this a secret until the embargo was lifted.

If you're crazy then I'm crazy 😅 I picked up a set of the P790s because I appreciate the stronger lofts for my handicap level. Here's my response from the other thread...

 

"I'm a huge sucker for copper, so I just impulse ordered a set of the P790s (like a true wrx'er). They'll go great with my copper hi-toe wedges, which have held up great so far. Just need to pickup the new 2024 copper BRNR mini-driver and I'll have a whole theme going on 😅 Might change the paint fill on the irons to black myself if its possible. I feel like black paint fill would look a lot better than the white, IMO..."

Saw in person and the finish is absolutely phenomenal. I never like this stuff but was very impressed. I don’t know anything about the finish or how it will wear but off the shelf they’re truly special.

If anyone buys these, please don't come back after a month complaining about the finish wearing.  Copper is soft, and the plating is very thin, so expect it to wear through with usage, similar to black irons.

The You Tube clip I linked to Nessism covers off that they will "mature over time" As we all know it's just a thing for any Copper or Black irons.

Maybe its just me but I think that's half the reason I bought them ... I love to see the wear and patina on an iron - especially if I can manage to get the sweet spot wear I like to see 🙂

Exactly. These are not old school Ping BeCu copper castings. It’s a thin copper coating that will wear. But boy, when new, they look great.

I gamed my BeCU E2's for near 20y...so everytime I see a copper release my heart goes a flutter. I also game P770s so this is double hard. 

 

But as noted, these will wear and not wear to a patina that I loved on the Pings so I'll save my ho fund for something else I don't need.

This is been an expensive week. First G730s. Went in to pick up my i530s, and there was a set of copper 790s! 
Picked those up as well! Been playing graphite, but the KBS Shafts are high launch high spin, which is perfect. Or do I save them for a flipper? They look gorgeous.

I was told today by one retailer here in the Uk that these are only off the shelf sets for here and no custom fit. Hope that’s not true and I’ll call TM Uk on Monday morning.

How can you resist? You are a 770 fan from the get-go! These things are gorgeous. A nice copper color that is not too orange. it has a rich, deep look. Very stylish. 
 

Some finishes look worse with wear. Black looks worse because there is so much contrast with the silver that wears through. But I always thought the blue Mizuno wedges looked cool with the silver-worn soles. I think these p770s will show wear but they’ll still look bad-a**. I wonder if these are a limited run or are they being added to the lineup indefinitely?

Oh well, typical lazy Uk marketing as this P770 and P790 release are only off the shelf (shaft choice only) for the Uk.

 

Its a hard pass for me as a result 😪

These must be selling like crazy. Ship date if you ordered last week was almost immediate. Order today and it is early July. Moved two months in less than a week.

Probably sold out the first batch and ordered more heads from the contracted manufacturer.
