What, didn't you know that LM's shoot out and retract a ruler, protractor and speedometer to measure stuff without algorithms so fast that it's invisible to the naked eye?

I think I’ll have some apps, while I write an algo for an app that helps people remember their apps.

The hands transfer the energy from the bigger muscles working in unison(hopefully), namely the core rotating against the legs creating torque, into the club creating swing speed.  The hands themselves create very little energy.

Much like a martial arts expert breaking planks with his body and not just his hands attached together.  A baseball hitter using his core to swing a bat, a hockey player hitting a slap shot, etc.

The arms attached to the body act as a lever and multiply the force.

If you don’t move your arms/hands faster you don’t hit it like the best players. That’s it.

Probably for two plane swings that are upper body dominant.

With a one plane swing that is pivot driven you want the body to work as a whole.  Focusing on the arms or hands throws the swing out of whack and you go off plane.

One and two plane swings are essentially meaningless designations. What is measured is that good players get their arms closer to the ball earlier than bad players. I’ve seen just as many players stuck trying to create lag or swing with their pivot alone using a so called one plane swing as a two plane swing.

I was one of them.

A weight shift in the BS causes a sway.  A WS in the DS causes a slide.  Moving weight causes lateral movement away from the ball.

Moving pressure from one foot to another allows the center of mass to remain centered, while the core rotates to create a spring action and then release it into the ball.  The WS happens in the follow through out of necessity to finish on the front foot.

Most people use WS and PS shift interchangeably, when in fact they are different concepts.

My older brother was developmentally disabled. Flowers for Algernon was one of the saddest stories I ever read.

Agreed.  I remember reading it in junior high and getting it the part where it become clear what was going to happen.  Even as an emotionally stunted teenager there was a moment of shock and sadness.

When I first came to this forum over 15 years ago before I had any aspirations to teach golf, I had been the longest hitter in the world and had played golf at the highest levels and had chances at a tour card a few times.

I quickly learned that my knowledge of the swing and the understanding of the physics of impact was at a level far below that of a novice.  I obviously had a high level practical understanding, but a very low level academic understanding.  I took a step back and decided to try and learn.

New information still evolves my understanding basically every day.

I’m often reminded of a great story.  As you can imagine, as a long drive champion I had to brave the constant revelations of people who knew someone who hit it longer than me,  It was never a fellow competitor or even John Daly.  If was always my brother’s wife’s best friend’s dog groomer’s husband’s twin brother’s college roommate.  Multiple times a contest was arraigned and the results were laughable and predictable.

One day I was playing with a random 3 some in a practice round for a tournament.  Starting on the first hole I was informed, “Wow that’s huge but my buddy from my club hits it a lot farther than that.”

This went on nearly every hole till the middle of the back 9.  Ona 380 ish yard par 4 I tagged one in the front bunker.

”For not a very big guy it’s very impressive how far you hit it, but my buddy from my club could fly it on this green.”

I finally asked who this guy was as I might know him.

”His name is Monte Scheinblum and he’s the #1 long driver.”

I walked over to my bag, got my driver’s license and put it up to him.

He was obviously embarrassed and was at loss for words.

I asked him if it didn’t strike a chord when I introduced myself on the first tee.  He said, “I thought you said Marty.”

He wasn’t a bad guy at all, just trying to be in the know.

I was gonna say years ago that my Uncle Max knows a guy with one leg who used to be a sailor, and this guy is married to a female wrestler who was in a circus. Well, she hits it miles and definitely further than you. I'm glad I didn't mention it now...

It seems to me that most of the controversy in golf instruction / swing theory comes from the fact that feel is not real.  Many really good players feel that their arms do nothing and their hips or whatever drive the swing.  They teach this to others and it works for some which proves that they are right and everyone else is an idiot.  Especially those students who can't seem to get it...
