Extensions removed - irons shorter than original?

mantan

Recommended Posts

I had 1/2 extensions placed in my irons. I struggled with the swing weight and gave up on them too quickly (2 weeks)

I had them take the extensions out.  Now it feels like they are shorter than the originals…..

when the extension is removed do they play at the same time exact same length?

Your question isn’t making sense to me. Play at the same time?

If you extend standard length irons, and then remove the extension, the irons should be what they were to begin with. Unless your club builder did something very strange.

A ruler would be a good place to start. 👍🏼

That depends on from what length they was extended, who could be anything
Measure length, its the only way to get a answer

If you don't have a golf club ruler, follow this link

Assuming there are steel shafts with typical steel extensions then everything should be exactly the same once removed as they just pop back out. The only reason they wouldn't be the same is if they sloppily cut out the old extensions and took some of the original shaft with them.

Having the clubs measured is the easiest way to figure this out; if they were stock length before they should be stock length now. If they aren't then whoever did the work owes you an explanation and potentially a new set of shafts. As you implied though, you're relying on your ability to remember what a club felt like weeks ago that you'd already begun acclimating to being longer, the chance of this being accurate isn't great. That doesn't mean you're crazy, just that your perception isn't accurate.

Exactly.💯

More than likely you’ve already become somewhat acclimated to the length with the extensions so now the previous length feels short.

This is why I think it's important to know your absolute specs, not the relative ones. "+1/2" isn't as meaningful as 38 1/2" 5 iron.

Yes, definitely.

But you can even take that a step farther with the details on the method used to measure the length.  If not, one persons (or OEM's) 38-1/2" can actually be the same as another persons 38-3/4".

So there are some thing the OP would need to be aware of when comparing his measurements against OEM published specs.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
