Nick Faldo's Equipment

Shah G

Recommended Posts

A good friend of mine was with Faldo a few weeks ago in Saskatchewan for a Tournament and Taylor Made day.

He said his stories of back in the day were fantastic. He also did a wicked bunker clinic with stories of Seve and Luke Donald at the Open with a 3 iron!!!

I have great pics guys I will try to get them up, they are quite good.

I am glad to know he is a really nice guy and he really is a legend!! Miss the old days of the tour kinda.

P.s.

Love the info from you guys great job.

I actually have the custom bag TaylorMade did for him that has the patches on the belly panel, 6 Time Major on the cuff, and a few other custom features. I will post pics later.

New favorite thread. Awesome stuff guys. My instructor talks about Sir Nick constantly and I soak up every bit. I especially liked the interview because I could just read his responses and hear his voice in my head. Really good stuff here. Keep it coming.

+1. ^5. Couldn't agree more Pete. I hope the manufacturers go back to that loft setup.

Pete:

Think there is any chance we will se the manufacturers revert back to the old lofts? When I hit a pitching wedge near the green, it should have the loft of a pitching wedge, a real old loft pitching wedge. That is the proper design for this club and is most effective.

Don't get hung up on the number, or the letters on the bottom of the club. If you want a 50 or 51 degree wedge around the green, they are available. But now they're called gap wedges, not pitching wedges. Thats the only difference.

What is now called a pitching wedge would have been a 9 iron back in the day. Not a big deal, just a difference in name or number.

Man do i ever wish we still lived in a world where the new club catalogue had 5 different blades to choose from!

I wish we still lived in a world where a player kept a set of irons for years, grinding them, adding lead tape, bending the lofts and lies, getting the clubs exactly right and then sticking with them instead of putting his sponsors new offerings in the bag every year for marketing purposes.

Yup, you are bang on with this one. one of my favourite posts on golfwrx is where somebody said they looked in Trevino's bag in the 70's or 80's at a tournament and the comment was something like "I expected jewels, and saw nothing like it, they were old, beat up, and covered with lead tape". nothing like an old set of banged up blades covered with lead tape that have black dimes on the middle of the clubfaces, it just screams ballstriker.

Just to throw a very small spanner in the works, I'm not sure that Faldo was carrying a metal spoon during his second Masters win in 1990. If memory serves, he had a persimmon 3-wood in the bag that year.

Head sizes are different. I like the shape of a traditional PW versus the shape of a gap wedge.

I've never seen tp 7s I am gonna have to have a look around, how rare are they?

I'm guessing those rextars are from about 94 with the Faldo logo?
