Scratch Golf Hand Made Limited Edition Persimmon Drivers

People have been asking if Scratch was ever going to make drivers. While we are not planning to ever make a metal driver or fairway woods we decided to make a very small Limited run of 10 Hand Made Scratch SG10 Deep Face Persimmon drivers. These are made by hand by John Powell of Joe Powell golf and are just absolutely stunning. The face is 2" deep very similar to the legendary MacGregor M09 LFF or George Bayer DFD. The face has a very unique White/Green/White "Eye-O-Matic" type insert. The specs are 43.5", 11* loft, 1* open, 56* lie with a Dynamic Gold S300 shaft and Scratch PURE grip. These 10 Limited drivers are for sale for $350. We can also make a custom Hand Made Persimmon driver in ANY custom specs that you want. We have many stain colors and inserts available. We also have 3 different face depths available. Standard, Mid and the Deep Face head which is what these Limited drivers are made from. The custom drivers are $400 each. I saw some Persimmon woods in your sig a little while back Ari.

Some nice looking woods there. Not my piece of cake but I'm sure they'll be snapped up by the end of the day.

Do you think it is a bit of a stretch to say [b]never[/b] going to make metal woods. I'd love to see some out someday.

So because the putter maker couldn't keep up with demand, you trash the company for giving you a refund. If I were them, I would have kept your money until the putter was made. Custom items don't come cheap or fast. Their other putter maker seemed to be very skilled, but had other priorities. His work looked great and I'm sure it was very time consuming. Patience is a virtue whether dealing with clubs or on the course.
I'm sure a email or call to Scratch would be much more effective than calling them out on a public forum.

Aw man, I was sooo close to pulling the trigger on a custom Scratch/Powell myself and then ran out of money. Seeing your new stick is just making me sick with regret! Gorgeous - truly.

I played a round with a guy gaming (hate that term) maple 1, 3 and 5 wood. We tied (79).

The whole round I was wishing I'd put my persimmons in the bag. I was jealous of the sound of his woods.

Nice job on the OP driver and the blonde one later - nice shaft choice. I hope whoever buys them has the balls to play them on the course. They'll be pleasantly surprised.

Ari knows I'm a fan of all things Scratch...but sorry on this one...kiln dried wood...very slack grain, and way too much face progression, imo...

That thing is georgeous!! Please post a few more of your huge collection sometime down the road when you get a chance. Its coming up to the fall season and the interest in these clubs really heats up. It would be great to see some from your collection.

More pics to come. At one time I had close to 500 persimmons, 50 sets of blades, and 80 putters. My brother was a pro at a public golf course and people were throwing great vintage clubs away when metal took over. But I got married and sold a bunch off. Then I moved across country and just have about 300 in about 18 staff bags left. Its hard to keep a collection going over the past 25 years moving around. I grew up with a PGA champ who gave a ton of stuff over the years. I will get it together and get some pics out on the forum. I love this website.

This used to be my specs for a persimmon driver back in the day. Of course that was almost 20 years ago when I was younger, stronger, and had much more flexibility than I do now. When a person plays 3 to 5 rounds of golf a week and is practicing a lot, and is single with no girlfriend , plays with a very competitive group of other very good players, and has no other commitments other than work, then a person can really hone their game.

Of course I would never think of specs like this today. [b]Troon pro[/b]'s driver is a monster and looks terrific! He must be a heck-ov-a stick!

25 years ago, Joe Powell made a LH Persimmon Driver for me. Walnut finish- 693 head- 9.5 degrees- NDWS shaft.
Traded it to a sponsor's son.... for a MacGregor Custom "Oil Hardened" Driver.....
