I always hesitate to get involved in these threads because so many people seem to have trouble controlling their emotions on the subject of Camerons/cost/etc. But I couldn't help myself this time because of one line in the seller's ad:
As Scotty announced to the members at the event, only 27 D009 DSS putters can be created from the size of the Damascus stainless steel ingot Scotty possesses. These are extremely rare putters, without a doubt. As some of the collectors know, 2 of 27 were excluded from sales. Scotty kept one for himself as artist proof and one with the serial number 000 was for our CEO. So the actual number of putters for sale is 25.

As well, according to information received from the studio, there was an incident and Scotty had to destroy one putter head.
An "incident"?

Did the putter head act up repeatedly and had to be put down?
Did someone drop into the Studio Tom Cruise/Mission Impossible/harness style in a failed theft attempt that resulted in both the thief and the putter head being "taken care of"?
Did Scotty show up drunk in the middle of the night and hand stamp "SC loves TW" onto one of the putter heads?
I actually like the looks of this putter. I do think these are real works or art. The presentation ceremony to introduce the Damascus 009 (as seen on video) was not so good. That production was, for a lack of a better word, hideous.

For such an expensive piece, it sure is ugly. I think it's because it reminds me of Fruit Stripe gum that I got as a kid, gross flavors and lasted about 5 chews.

The company that mills the putters for Cameron/Titleist has trouble keeping the damascus layers together sometimes. Since Damascus is made of various metals they don't always "stick" together during CNC milling. Chunks can break off at weird spots when the heavy cutting is being done.

That is exactly what I thought of as well!

I am sure the putter is meant to be some sort of art, not a gamer...so being different, or "eye-catching" is most likely the look they were going for.

You can keep it for 19K though. Geez.

But that's not nearly as fun as my speculations.

EDIT: It would, however, explain why it is described as an "incident." Don't want to advertise that a $20k putter could "flake" apart.

to call that thing damascus steel is crazy. i bet the scotty cult would buy one if he milled it out of a petrified turd.
To be fair, it would probably have to be a German Pertified Turd...
I don't think that the source of the Petrified Turd would come from Germany. I don't think that GPT is exotic enough. GPT is common, every day turd. I would bet that the source would be Peruvian Petrified Turd, specifically from Machu Picchu. Yep, a PPT-MP 009 would be extremely rare and very collectible.

I miss that gum... Sure it was only good for 10 seconds, but it was a good 10 seconds... (No "thats what she said"s lol)

Anyway, back on topic, This would probably be the one scotty I would like, but its too expensive for my blood.

LOL! RobotDoctor that could be one of the funnier replies I have ever read..
One thing I could add.. There could be a "Mountaintop" collection, that the Machu Pichu would be a part of.. All of these would be limited edition, circle T of course.
There would be Mt St Helens, with some ash mixed into the steel when [s]cast[/s] forged, then milled.. The ash would come from Scotty's personal collection.. Back when Mt St Helens blew up, he bought a bag of it at a flea market.. He used to go to flea markets starting at 7 years old, looking for parts for his Bridgeport, which his dad bought for him at 4 years of age. You see, his Dad knew he must be special, after he showed an affinity for shaping the mashed potatoes on his dinner plate into incredibly realistic representations of the classic putters of the day... Most notably the George Lows, IronMasters, and early Ping putters...
.....and the flagship Everest Edition.. This will be EXTREMELY LIMITED to 29029 pieces.. The headcover would be made out of Yak fur, killed by a real live sherpa, and each coming with an aluminum shaft band, which were made from melted down oxygen tanks recovered from Everest base camp..
PP, your reply was even funnier. I believe we are on to something here. The "Mountain Top" series. Yep, Cameron is still on top. And remember, "Every grip .... Priceless."

Thanks for starting my day off with a good laugh. :D

The color of the Damascus steel used in the SC is down right ugly, like a stick of gum or something. I prefer the Odyssey Grand Damacus which has colors that look like steel and cost less ($5,000 versus $19,000):

People have to understand that what Cameron is doing is a lot closer to art than golf club supplies. His Damascus putter is just as significant to our time as a Picasso is to that time. The problem people are having is understanding the worth of the putter is not just the sum of its parts, no more than a painting should be worth just the cost of materials and canvas.

Cameron has gone beyond his brilliance in innovation and originality with the Damascus and possibly created the first representation of sports art. I have been dying to get one of these and have a very good line on one right now. Hopefully if things go well I will have it in a few months.

That is what I see the Cameron Damascus 009 putter as, art. First, I would never spend $20K for a putter ... period. However, if I did, I certainly would never game it. It would hang on the wall, and that is what art is. I do not prefer the colors of the Cameron Damascus for a gamer but I think it is very nice in terms of contrast and for the purpose of art.

As far as Cameron's brilliance goes, yes, he is a brilliant marketing person. He is probably the finest example of a putter designer who specializes in marketing and selling his products. As far as innovative and original pertaining to the Damascus putter, no. This has been done before (Tad Moore about 10+ years ago).

Best of luck in obtaining a Cameron Damascus putter. I am sure it will make a nice addition to your collection.

Good for you.. I really do hope you are able to get one. Everyone has the right to chase something that holds value for them.
For me, I do not see the value, but again, that is me.. Different strokes for different folks, correct?
I do have issue with your comparison of Scotty to Picasso. I do not believe that Scotty is on a level with aPicasso
Picasso completely reinterpreted an existing artform, and made art completely unlike anything seen prior. As an abstractionist, form itself was less important to Picasso..
If you want to take that view of it, than the true putter artists were mainly Karsten Solheim and Truett Mills..
While Scotty is a good marketer, he is not nearly the innovator that Karsten and T.P. were.
Agreed with regards to Mr. Solheim and Mr. Mills. Also agreed that Cameron is not comparable to Picasso. I would compare Cameron to PT Barnum (an not being disrespectful here). PT Barnum had a good product and marketed it as the "Greatest Show on Earth!" Because of master marketing, PT Barnum elevated his circus into an event by creating this mystique surrounding it. It was talked about by the masses as THE event to see, thus people flocked to see it. PT Barnum created hype for his product that people swarmed to see it. IMO, what Cameron has done with his putter line. I believe there are many people that make as good of a product, if not better, but they do not get the hype Cameron does. Cameron is definitely the finest self promoting marketing genius that has graced the golf industry. At least one of the finest.
