I've had a Speed Cart since they first came out (2000?). I always walk unless required to rent a power cart. I carry in the summer and use the cart in the winter to haul umbrella, rain gear, etc. If its really hot I use the cart so I can carry more beverages. I usually play on a hilly course, so carrying is actually less effort if you aren't bringing extra gear. I'm almost 62 and play with guys ranging from their early 20's to late 70's. Almost everyone has both push carts and carry bags,, although there are a few guys that nearly always go one way or the other. Power carts are rarely used in our group.

Have been using a push cart for about three years I bought for $35 on eBay. I just got a new Sun Mountain Speedcart with my credit book form my Dawgfight winnings. Awesome price and fantastic cart. Looks sharp in white and rolls like a dream.

I got some jabs for getting one at age 22, it's hot as hell down here so I'd rather not carry my 30 pound tour stand bag up and down these hill country courses, but I hate riding because you end up waiting a ton anyway. So I have a tri swivel 2 with Srixon Tour Stand bag on it, it fits great and I throw a soft cooler on the handle for waters and snacks

There is scientific research that carrying clubs vs. a push cart is only 3 calories different for nine holes, plus you score better! Why wouldn't you use a push cart. Once I found this out 2 years ago, I switched and have never gone back!

Nice find

If I understand correctly, the debate should never have been between carry and push cart, but between riding and walking. :good:

I've owned a pull or push cart since I started playing at 26 years of age. Hard to believe I've been playing for 20 years now. Where does time go?

I never understood why on earth people who want to walk and play golf wouldn't buy a push cart. Is it because that's not how they used to do it? People used to take a horse and buggy to town but they got smarter, invented cars, now now it's easier to make the trip. Things change for the better. But it's your back and shoulders. If you want to put unnecessary wear and tear on them, then knock yourself out.

When I spent 6 months living in Los Angeles, I was surprised by how many people used push carts. Around here in Michigan, a large percentage of the courses that are above the level of a 6000 yard muni require power carts, but out there, a lot more people walk. I had a ClicGear that I'd bought a couple years before, but since this was a temporary move, and we just brought out what we could fit in our car (I actually ended up shipping my clubs back and forth to save space). I ended up buying a cheap push cart for the time I was out there, because it only took a few rounds to it to pay for itself compared to the cost of renting one. I really enjoyed being able to walk so often. I use my ClicGear almost all the time when I walk. The exception was during a Michigan AM qualifier, when I did carry my bag. I really shouldn't care, but it's the kind of tournament where there's a lot of high school and college kids, and I felt like I'd be a little awkward looking like an old guy with a push cart. It helped that I knew it's a pretty flat course, so it wasn't a big deal to carry.

To answer the orignal question, I'm turning 40 next month.

Wait a minute, a thread not only contributed to by CL, but actually started by CL?? My how times have changed...

34 here, just bought a ClicGear 3.5 last month. I'm not eliminating carrying altogether, but after doing so a few rounds early this spring my back was screaming. I've only got a few rounds in with it, but after 18 holes I wasn't tired and the midwest heat & humidity seemed more tolerable. It is something of a different experience on courses that have more hills, I actually found my legs felt it a little more after pushing on courses with more hills than normal, but overall I'm happy with it.

Welcome to the dark side.

I remember that CL guy. 2 years ago we played at least 3-4 times a week. Now I hear from him 3-4 times/year.

26 and started using a push cart this season. Bought a Clicgear 3.5+ because of the awesome color combos but I prefer the design and ease of Sun Mountain. Might see if I can find one on craigslist and pick up a can of spray paint this winter.
