Push Carts - Average age of owner?

Recommended Posts

I actually like using them but only do when I play as a guest at my friends course, they all have them... a couple even have remote controls. We actually play faster than people in carts. We all walk down the first 180-220 yds of the hole together and then disperse. Not to mention pretty decent exercise as walking could mean 2.5-3 miles depending on length of course.
My wife always asks me why I don't use my 'golf walk' in the grocery store.

I think there comes an age where a grown man doesnt need to carry but should still walk. When I can force my dad to walk hell take a pull cart. Hes 58 and in great shape and could carry his bag with ease, but it seems unnecessary for him to carry. Personally, i hate carts, but i love walking. 35 and under should probably carry in my mind it just seems strange to me to see anyone older carry. I should mention Im a teenager who caddys, so that may have something to do with it....

I bought a push cart at age 23 in 1975, and used one into the 1990's, always with a huge staff bag and 13 or 14 clubs. Got tired of schlepping around all that weight, and went minimalist with a Sunday carry bag and 5-7 clubs.

Never looked back.

Although you could push a Pull Cart, the Push Cart was invented and put on the market by Sunmountain in 1999. Since you are now in your 60s, you'll actually enjoy a "real" Push Cart. :-)

Unless, you've already switched to riding.

You're right, I'm corrected. I used a pull cart, although, I've used one as a push cart. I even have an old clubster, bag and cart combined. Someone told me that the Clubster was primarily a ladies' cart. May be true, I bought a set of ladies clubs for the wife some years ago, and the Clubster came with them.

I love walking, minimalist golf is perfect for me. I dread the day I can't briskly walk 18.

Play well, pushing, pulling or whatever.

I picked up a Bag Boy Quad and the seat attachment a few weeks ago and I am 36. So far I like it, I have only used it on days that I play just 9 holes by myself. When I play 18 it is usually with friends and we all ride then, but I am considering using it on those rounds also.

I'm 37 and treated myself to a Clicgear 3.5+ as a birthday present. Went out later in the week, used it for the first time in a matchplay and shot my best ever score over 18 holes. Our pairing won 3&2 as well!

Now, I'm not saying it's the push cart entirely, but I'm sure it did help in staving off fatigue on the home stretch...

I dare say that 80% of the people at my local course use a push cart. Can't remember spotting anyone over 50 without one.

I'm soon to be 52 and try to walk the front 9 when playing. Due to a bad knee I just can't walk all 18. Use a Caddy 4 wheeled push cart.

I think they should definitely be more widely accepted in the states, most of the time there is no need for carts and golf is a much more pleasant experience when walking imo, anything that helps people walk more is good. Would say push/electric trolley use is more common over here once players get past 40 but the trend is definitely moving towards younger and younger players. A few years ago you wouldn't dare to be seen at a county/national event with a trolley and now it is more common than not.

Last year I played a round after work using my wife's clikgear 3.0. Pushing it enabled me to set the shaft on the handle and be able to wipe my club while moving towards the hole. Can't do that with a pull cart. I ended up getting a 3.5 and have liked using it. It has saved me from the errant shot from hitting me and has a nice dent on it.

Early in the year I grabbed a stand bag at a great deal to start walking. As quickly as I descovered how much better the game is on foot I found out that many courses around here are to hilly to walk 18. I enjoy walking nine holes but at times it seems that the ninth hole comes to quick. Playing 18 my legs get tired of the inclines around fifteen holes in and the rest are miserable. Picked up a SM Micro Cart today so I can enjoy the whole eighteen from here on.

27 yrs. old for the poll.

I still love to walk(use a push cart), problem is a number of courses only allow carts during prime time play and the other is no one in my group walks unless they have to (which is never..LOL). When I can walk it is a pain to chase two carts all day, but when you don't have to look for your ball it's easier.

That's the biggest hurdle, right there. :cheesy:

In that situation, for me, an errant shot is NEVER an option. :fie: Whether I like it or not, it does add pressure, that I could do without. :black eye:

I like to play in the weekend, mid day game at my home course, and run into the same thing when I'm using my Bagboy push cart. There are only 3 of us who ever walk. If I'm hitting em good it doesn't affect my game, or slow pace of play at all. If I feel I'm slowing down the game I'll give in, pay at the turn and ride the back nine. I always push if I'm playing/ practicing by myself. I'm 52 and can still carry 14 clubs in a light stand bag for 18 holes, but only do so, if I've left my cart at home and decide to walk once I get to the course.

I'm 26 and use a push cart. I don't find it enjoyable when I'm carrying in 80-90 degree weather and already sweating. The only time I choose to carry my bag is during the winter since I find that it helps me stay warmer.

37 and I love my Clicgear. I play in a group of half walkers, half riders. ALL of the walkers own a Clicgear. Ages 27, 32, 48 besides myself. We play just as fast as riders.

If I had the money I'd buy the young guys that carry at our course push carts. Because they are BY FAR the slowest groups you've ever seen.

Sometimes I wonder if they're actually just out for a leisurely stroll that's occasionally interrupted by having to hit a golf ball.

I use a bag boy quad and I'm in my mid 60's. walk whenever permitted and the terrain isn't too constantly or drastically steep, which translates to about 95% walking.
I can attest I feel the weight of pushing up an incline. On steeps ones I'm a little tired after reaching the top.
This appears to be a clicgear club. Curious about the raves for it. Can those owners explain how it performs up a hill, can it be pushed and left rolling in relative straight line on it's own? Is it very light? How is it's maneuverability? Just need some more detail and depth to the raves.

25. I use a clicgear 3.5. I like to play on all weather conditions, so it's nice to be able to throw that stuff in the bag without having to lug all of that extra weight around. Carrying the bag isn't terrible, but like someone else said, the bending and twisting to get it up on your shoulders is pretty brutal. This will be my first season using the cart, does anyone have suggestions for essential accessories to make the cart that much better?

I don't live in a very hilly area, but for the few there are, I'd rather be pushing the cart up the hills rather than have all of the extra weight hanging off of my back. If I could change anything about it, it would've the brakes. I'd rather have them be on both back wheels rather than the front one.

I haven't read the whole thread, but if you're in the market for a new cart, look at Big Max golf. They were out of my price range, but they're pretty awesome

31 now and I can say my days of carrying a fully loaded bag are done . Only time I still carry is on par 3 courses with about 6 clubs. On a full course I'll ride or rent a pull cart. Some of my best rounds lately have been walking / pull cart. Gives me more time to think about my game and prepare for each shot. My usual playing partners noticed that our speed of play picked up too. So I may be in the market for a nice pully in the near future.

Ya there GI irons ... but I keep em clean .
