Push Carts - Average age of owner?

Recommended Posts

I will be 55 in a few weeks and i bought a clic gear cart because last years electric cart died finally after many good years of use and i wanted to see if i could manage a push cart even though i have had multiple shoulder surgeries , needless to say it only made it 18 holes because pushing it caused to much pain in my shoulders so i sold it and bought a new electric cart , but i am pissed because i wanted to either carry or use a push cart but just cant no longer , getting old is just hell

Sun Mountain Speed V2, great cart.

Although last year I only used it about 5 times since I messed up my ankle. I rode most of the year. I live on Long Island and am fortunate to play the hills of Black and the other Bethpage courses. I love this cart. Wont ever carry again.

I'm 28 and bought one earlier this year. Walking makes rounds $10-$15 cheaper plus u get great exercise. Dont worry too much about the right age of when you're supposed to use a push cart...your back/shoulders will thank you later as you get older.

J, I don't know about the push carts, but you seem to come up with the best Avatars :)

So after reading almost every post here (I did skim a few quickly) it seeems almost everyone that uses a push cart went from carrying to a push cart. So you were already walking and this just made it easier.

I'm in the other boat, I've been an exclusive cart rider and I'm 53 this month. Have any of you guys gone from riding all these years to using a push cart? What was the change like.

Now I have walked plenty of rounds with caddie, so I can make it through 18 holes walking without any problem, but wondering how tough it will be with a cart for the first time.

It also seems the consensus is the clicgear 3.0 or SM V or Bagboy. Thanks for an interesting thread, that has gone on for over a year.

I'm 26 and started golfing three years ago. After about a month I got a cheap Wilson push/pull cart off of craigslist for about $20.

Part of the reason was because my first set of clubs only had single strap, instead of the more modern backpack shoulder design. Also, for most of the first year I was topping a great deal of my shots, so carrying bag 25-80 yards and hitting again wasn't very fun.

When I golf with my friends we usually end up riding in a cart. Its not my first choice, but they all seem to like it and/or see the only alternative being to carry their bags through all 18. They seem a little hard headed about the subject, but maybe in another 10 years they will come around. Most of them are my age or a year younger.

I like saving some money by walking. It is also nice to use during the fall and early spring months when the riding carts have to be in by a certain time or the course is in less than ideal conditions. I also prefer walking with my push/pull cart during the winter months (Chicago / NW IN) when the weather will allow it. I've tried riding a cart during the winter, but its too windy and cold. I find it better to keep moving to help keep my body warm.

I've been meaning to pick up a Clic Gear 3.0 cart for the last two seasons, haven't gotten around to it yet. I've been upgrading different parts of my starter set instead. The only real down side to the push/pull cart is the amount of trunk space it takes up. My bag and cart take up about all the space in my Mustang.

Add me to the list. I just turned 40 last week and I bought a CG 3.0 last night. I have carried my bag forever, but I thought why the hell carry it anymore as long as I am walking and getting exercise I will save the wear and tear on my back and joints. The guys at my club are going to shart their pants when they see it, but I bet they wind up with one too later lol.

I used my CG3.0 for the first time yesterday and walked 36. Between the CG and the True shoes, I have never felt better after 36 in my life. Feet felt great, back felt great, knees, hips everything. I used to walk 54 every Saturday with one of my buddies. With the new cart and shoes, 54 is going to be a piece of cake now. We haven't done it for 5 years since neither of us have played much in the last 4 years. These carts and shoes are absolute game changers for me and will make golf even more enjoyable.

I am 25 and own a clicgear 3.0 and I love it. I enjoy walking but like most everyone else I am done carrying my clubs after about 14-15 holes. Plus I like being able to carry a bunch of extras and the cart makes it easy to do that. I will say though I have a buddy that works at the course so when I golf with him it's 5 bucks for 18 holes with a cart, so I ride then.

I am 29 and I just picked up a quad. I love the cart. It makes walking easier and I feel better on the last few holes. I am in great shape. I run, lift, etc... However, I would rather be a fresh as possible to focus on my game on the course. The cart was a great pickup.

32, when I was in my early 20's I used to think they where for p*ssys. What a knuckle head I was, I had shoulder reconstruction when I was 18 and it just became too much picking the bag up and down ( I work out regularly also) So now I'm a p*ssy too, and I think saves more energy for golf having the cart.

53 years old and just got clearance from my surgeon last week to return to golf 12 weeks after thoracic spine fusion single level. Took my bagboy quad out for 18 holes on Memorial Day, shot 79, and feel great. I always carried until this year. I ride an electric cart on Saturday mornings only because it's required then. Push carts are great ... one thing I hate though is a lot of people at my club use the umbrella holder for an umbrella when it's sunny outside, to keep the sun off....sorry but I draw the line at that...just a hat and some good suncreen work for me.

I know people who use hat, sunscreen, long sleeves and long pants, keep an umbrella over their head and still don't play mid-day during the May-June-July because they've had skin cancer already and are none too eager for it to return and maybe stick around this time.

If you have sun-sensitive skin, a family history of cancer and have had multiple skin cancer occurences yourself it's foolish not to take every precaution. Those folks are basically not "if skin cancer" but "when skin cancer" and short of giving up golf and all outdoor activities they've gotta do what they've gotta do. It might be bad karma to put them down or make fun...

I don't think age has a factor in using a push cart. There are now high school golfers that play using push carts. Many junior golfers use push carts, or have their dads that caddy for them carry their bags. For kids and teens, it makes sense that the local golf officials finally allowed them to use push carts. For kids and teens to haul around a bag full of clubs, balls and gear, it can hurt their backs and wear them out. In the hot summer weather, it just makes sense to use a push cart when walking to lessen fatigue.

Edit: I have a Sun Mountain Micro-Quad Cart. My 11 year old likes it and I might give it to him to use in his tournaments, etc. IF that happens, I may get a CG 3.0 for myself.

I'm 41 and have had my Clicgear for 4 years.

Herniated disc made it impossible to carry my bag anymore and the cart has made it possible to renew the joy of walking.

25 here and use one. I don't care to pay the extra $8-$15 to ride. Also, I just had back surgery a few months back so carrying a bag is pretty much forever out of the question. I wish I would have used one sooner for that matter. Pretty bad when you're 25 and have already had back surgery. I don't think it's good for anyone unless you make a good living at it (tour caddie).
