From here on out I am going to refer to my push cart as a trolley. It is an underutilized word where I am from.

Digging the use of "trolley!"

I've had my Sun Mountain Speedcart for a few years now. Definitely paid for itself in cart fees a few times already. I replaced the pneumatic tires with the solid foam tires and figure I might be able to use this for another 10+ years.

I swore I'd always carry, then I grew tired of sore shoulders and back and also tired of actually holding an umbrella. Bought a ClicGear 3.5+ last year and never looked back. I'm sure I'll carry once in a while for nostalgia's sake, but why risk back and shoulder problems AND higher scores because of it?

From the Sunmountain site.

There were no three wheel push carts until Sunmountain invented them in 1999 with the Speed Cart...15 years ago.

So, basically, every one using a push cart today is older than the invention itself.

I'm 48 now and have been using a push/pull cart for 15 or 20 years. I've always been physically fit so that isn't an issue, but when I noticed that fatigue would set in at the end of a round, especially on a hilly course, I decided that I didn't want my score to suffer. Using a cart allows me to get exercise by walking yet not kill my score. I can also carry rain gear, extra towels, etc. without worrying about the weight.

Where I live the buggy is called a handicart and it's really (seemingly only) intended for handicapped people to use. Walking is the way to play.

Having said that in the summer I use a cart and in the winter I'm carrying. For the winter I have a PING ultralight bag, in the summer I'm pushing my Clicgear. Used to have a 'trombone' golfcart, but gave it to my mother :)

Slapping the ball around a bit, having loads of fun.

27, Was using a Bag Boy for a while and finally invested in a ClicGear now that I joined a club. It's harder to find folks without push carts! When I carry my clubs, usually my shoulder blades get a little tight towards the end and it never feels quite right. The push cart allows me to use one bag for everything, and I can carry all my stuff and have a fresh back teeing off on 18.

63 years old and use a push/pull three wheel folding trolley (Fastfold, fairly similar to ClickGear). I tend to have a fairly heavy bag and it is handy to have the GPS mounted on the handle, etc. Keeps my pockets more or less free of golf bits and pieces.

The only time I would carry now, would be in the winter time and then only with a half set - when the course is so wet that trolleys are banned because of damage to the soft ground.

Electric powered trolleys are becoming quite popular here in Germany and I see people 20-30 years younger than me using them. It does mean you need a more expensive locker with power and there will be a waiting list for these.

I had a weeks golf holiday in Spain in March and both the 18 hole courses we played on were horribly mountainous. After 2 days with rather clapped out hired hand powered trolleys, many of us hired (clapped out) electric carts to ride round the course. That made things much more enjoyable. One or two of our group still carried. If I want a physical workout I can use my exercise bike at home, or use the local gym, etc.

I don't see the point of exacerbating old back injuries lugging a heavy set of golf clubs, etc. round the course.

I'm not in Depends yet (62) but I do use either a Clicgear 3.0 or the electric Billy Goat. Before retiring a few years ago I lived in Palm Springs and none of the courses let you walk. Now I'm in St George, UT and I walk 2x a week and ride one day. I like the cart because I have a Sun Mountain Hybrid bag that is more of a cart bag with legs. Way too heavy to carry, and even if I had a Ping Hoofer I would use the cart as I don't have any desire to screw up my back. To all of you young bucks who think it is unmanly to not carry, you too will get old. Take care of your back when you're young and you will enjoy playing for many decades.

I'm 39 now and have been using a clicgear for the past 3 years. My brother, who is a chiropractor, had these comments when he first saw me with it:

"As your brother, you're a p***y. As a chiropractor, you should have been using a cart when you started playing at 14".

I always cringe a little inside whenever I see a child, <16 yr/old, with a golf bag on his/her shoulders.

I can understand that it could be a "not full bag" with acc (water and such) but, a younggun can easily cram 1-2 doz balls in there.
I can also understand that pull carts would take up a lot of room on the shuttle bus. But, they are available at the course.
Compared to other sports, golf is one of the few (if any other) where the user carries the, somewhat heavy, equipment. (as opposed to wearing it)
It would, IMHO, take it's toll on a fast growing sprout's back/knees/shoulders.

Just saying.

I noticed that the Stanford Men's Team used push carts.
I'm surprised it's taken this long for a college coach to mandate them. There's a lot of 36 hole days on long courses in college golf.

Seems like young junior golfers and older golfers use push carts more and most high school/college guys won't use a cart because it has a stigma of being lame (I also used to think that way, haha). However, seems to be changing a bit with the cooler carts. Just saw the NCAA Division I tournament on tv and the entire Stanford team was using Clicgear carts. It is good to see the stigma of push carts changing. They do have advantages of less fatigue in a round. I just bought a Clicgear Model 8 because I have a rotator cuff shoulder injury that won't let me carry and I like it a lot.

I would like to see a caddie on the PGA tour use one. I think people may be up in arms about it but to me it makes sense to use one for caddies on PGA tour.

Absolutely, nothing better then walking with your Family on a Course with a Push/Pull Cart except carrying your bag that's a Great time as well......Our Boys(12&14) both have Clicgear 2.0 Carts I have a BagBoy Quad and the Wifey has a BagBoy Swivel we also have a couple of BagBoy 3 wheeled Carts. I'm 50 and the Wife is 44yrs......We always have all our Bags and Carts with us just incase we ever decide to " Go Play " You can always pick one up on the Bay cheaper then buying new from a Store............and don't forget your Umbrella's & RainGear Always be Prepared for whatever comes up on the Course. There are so many Course's that don't allow Push Carts I wish all Course's had at least a couple of days a year just for Push Cart's........something about walking a Course with a Cart that is so nice it allows you to really enjoy the Game and the Course more I think......Stop Thinking about it and just go Buy a Cart and Enjoy your Game a little more you won't regret it I promise you that. Take it Easy, Mike " Go Play "
