Push Carts - Average age of owner?

Recommended Posts

I'm 26 and this is my first season playing. I started out using electric carts because I thought it would help me play faster but the last couple times out I rented a push cart. I am in pretty decent shape and workout 3-5 times a week but I see no reason to carry clubs. I don't golf to get a workout. I golf for fun and relaxation. I don't find lugging clubs around the course fun or relaxing. I will definitely look into purchasing a push cart for next season to save same money on cart fees.

Turned 39 yesterday and just purchased my first push cart the day before that. I am getting very tired of the cost of riding. I have a carry bag also and I would carry to save money from time to time. I do think that i resisted the Push cart due to the same stigma the OP was worried about. How stupid is that?
My stand bag with 14 clubs, balls and tees, my rain gear, umbrella, wallet, keys, water bottles etc must weigh what, close to 35 lbs? Why the hell have I been lugging that around with me? Some overblown sense of romanticism? Should i be reading "golf in the kingdom" as i haul that beast down the fairway?

Top 3 reasons why i decided to bite the bullet on the Cart

1) Cost of Riding is getting ridiculous, especially when paying for myself and my Jr son whose cart fees are at times as much as his greens fees.
2) I have a back disease that makes carrying 18 on even a relatively short/flat course too painful to endure often
3) I save my back, I save my cash, I get a little more exercise and I can pack that bag with all the useless crap i want.

BTW the cart I got was an Orlimar EZ Roll brand new from play it again sports for 43 bucks out the door on black Friday. it's a Nice alternative to dropping 2 bills on a CG or BagBoy if you are uncertain you are gonna use/like it. If all goes well with it, I'm gonna get a CG and my son gets the Orlimar. Might as well start saving his back now.

It is interesting how diverse the ages are. good topic and Poll OP.

I just turned 50, I've always walked, and I've been a push cart user my whole golfing life. I enjoy having my clubs stable on a cart, and having the luxury of carrying a few more things without straining my back. I mostly feel better after a round if I don't have to carry. I got a Caddy on my last birthday that I love, complete with umbrella holder. Best way to go!

I'm 55 and I started walking the course last season, and I'll never go back! To me, the game was meant to be played walking. I use a Clicgear 3.0 cart, and I have the best playing experience this way because I find it gives me much more time to collect myself and focus before my next shot as opposed to when I rode and I was always rushing to the ball without really having the time to think.

Just my .02.

Playing twice a week this year $$, which is a lot for me......not to mention wearing a heavy equipment (duty belt, 30lbs) for my work everyday, and college lacrosse (bad shoulders). I purchased a cart for next year (hopefully Golfsmith sends its). Most courses near me are short enough, and save the money to get some more exercise, why not?

32 years old, no shame here, I am hoping it will allow me to focus on my next shot instead of worrying about someone in the cart with me looking for balls etc.

I am looking forward to using it.

Ordered the Clicgear 3.0, everyone seems happy with it

Closing in (far too) quickly on 45, but a pull-cart user since I was 7.

As a few previous posters have mentioned, growing up in Australia pull-carts were the norm, not the exception. The only people who carried golf bags were paid to do so, the only ones who rode carts were either bone-lazy or were too old or infirm to make it around under their own power. Nothing I have seen or experienced in the last eight years States-side has changed my opinion on the latter, even four years of psoriatic arthritis before I was diagnosed and started on meds; I still cannot imagine any sane reason why anyone other than someone paid to carry a bag would want to do so.

I still have the pull-cart I brought over to the US - wide, solid tyres that make zero impression on the ground, seriously my feet leave more damage than this thing.

53 here and just bought my first push cart - a bagboy quad. I normally ride on weekend mornings (required at my club) but carry all other times. The act of carrying does not hurt at all during the round, but I'm noticing more issues with my sides and back the day after, or two days after. Since I observed that about 95% of the walkers at my course use the push carts, I decided to join them.

I'm 41 and I have been using my Clic Gear 2.0 for 2 years. It is the best thing I ever bought for golf since my Big Bertha Warbird in 1994. My cousin is a low single digit player and he always carried. He said that when he turned 40 (four year ago) he started using a push cart. He said that he didn't realize how tired he was after about 13 or 14 until he started using the cart. I could see that he had much better focus and played noticeably better on the finishing holes once he started using the cart. I took his advice, go a clic gear and I can attest that it has had the same effect on me and my play. I occasionally ride and if I am playing 9 before work, I may carry but for my Sunday morning club round, I use the cart. It is great, especially in the rain. I will play through a drizzle or scattered showers and this cart with my umbrella attachment keeps me drier than if I was in a covered motor cart. If you haven't tried using a cart, buy the Clic Gear 3.0, you will never look back.

I will be turning 55 soon and play 4-5 times weekly and have a battery powered cart for last 15 years , this season i wanted to try a push cart so i bought a clic gear 3.0 and only after a few times i quickly remembered why i do not use one , after surgeries on both rotator cuffs and a knee i get pain in both areas after only 2 to 3 holes , and our course is not hilly but the 1 we have is a doosie and i could barely get it up the hill without should pain so it will be a electric trolley till i cant walk any longer .... but i wish i could still use a push cart because they are excellent

48 - I used to pull an aluminum Bag Boy before the advent of stand bags which I carry now.

If I ever start pulling again I will go back to the two-wheeled alum BB.

I don't understand why more guys don't buy and use these for cheap? They're indestructable and don't look like you're pushing a baby.

I'm 25 and am looking to pick up a Clicgear 3.0.

I have walked extensively the last two summers and am willing to take a shot to the pride to save my back and knees for the rest of my life. It will allow me to play a lot more without tiring and not have to pay ludicrous cart fees.

29. Have used a Clicgear 2.0 for almost 2 years. Love walking and this makes it so much easier than carrying my Hoofer.

I'm not a push cart kinda guy. In fact I probably won't ever be. I've carried my bag since I started playing at the age of 12 and will do so until I'm physically unable too. But I'm embarrassed for those individuals under the age of 25 that use a push/pull cart. And especially for those under 20. You should be embarrassed of yourself. Baring some physical ailment, What's the matter with you. I'm just curious why you choose to do so............

41- Have had a V1 (original) for six years now and love it! It paid for itself in the first year of use. Walking is great because in a cart you always seem to be waiting for the group in front to clear out of the way. This way you get to appreciate the course and see things you normally wouldn't, as well as size up the situation en route to your ball. Sun Mountain also makes a cooler pack that goes under the push handle for extra storage of your "beverages"! :partytime2:

Bit the bullet and picked up a Clicgear 3.0. I have carried for my previous 25ish years till my shoulders and game suffered for the second half of last year.

Reading some of the posts on here, of guys that are unable to play due to injury and it honestly scares the crap out of me. Watching the snow melt and knowing that I won't be out there on opening day would be worse than death.

I'll let the wheels carry all the crap I need to play, while I still can.

I read an article that polled 800 walkers and push/ pullers. The push/ pullers averaged 4 strokes better over 18 hole. That was reason enough for me. By the way, since you were curious, nothing is the matter with me.

I'm 32 and I'm thinking about getting a Clic-Gear. I always choose to walk over ride given the choice (hate golf carts!) but sometimes carrying the bag does tax my back and shoulders. Thought about it a couple years ago but pride kept me from it. The more I think about it though the more it just seems silly and juvenile to discount a push-cart because of some perceived sense of pride.
