Well,

since everyone on golfwrx carries their 6 irons 190 yards without a problem, i thought it might be a good idea and put everyone to the test.

It will take some planning and a centralized location but, i would like to host or partially host a GOLFWRX open - for golfwrx members only. A play-to-scratch, medal play, 36 hole event. what do you people think? (if you're not open to it, you're probably someone who lies about their carry distance :)

There was a huge thread about this not to long ago and there is a good chance something like this will happen in the future. If you go and some of the true players on here show up you will see plenty of guys that absolutley crush the ball. We had a az members outing today and the long drive hole was won with 350+drive(downwind) albeit about a 10 mph wind.
Oh and you had to go down to 5th on that list before you got to someone hitting less than 3 bills and that was out of 15 players

was going to say would need to be a looong course if the scores weren't going to be in the low 60s everyday

Big difference between those that hit it a country mile and those that shoot in the 60's on a regular basis the later are much fewer and far between.

I know I get it, I have also been privileged to play with a whole bunch of different wrx members of which more than a couple of them are fully capable of doing both crushing the ball and going low. Do a lot of guys talk a big game on here of course, but quite a few can back it up.
There just seems to be a general disconnect on here between the guys that can and have done it and those that haven't which is fine, but people calling each other out over and over again for the same stuff gets old after a while.

I get the "Put your money where your mouth is" aspect of this suggestion, but if this is really supposed to be a board for a community of golfers, I'm not sure that I understand why you wouldn't want to have the "WRX Open" include handicap divisions.

Something like this would be fun with the biggest obstacle being location. Also something in the fall would be best if you want the "better" players. My tournament schedule from March-August is busy.

Fully agree, long off the tee doesnt equal low scoring. Also the more whitnesses and competition the better.
BTW, if this happens ther should be a trackman there!

AZ would be fine with me now that I've relocated. I enjoyed getting together with a bunch of guys at Rareguitar's Va. Beach outing in 2006 as well as playing with some of the Houston guys a few years back.

As long as work permits it, I'd be up for it.

I once went to AZ w/ my fiance, met up w/ 3 AZ WRX'rs.. all 3 can break 80 easily (medicaptain, fore life, one putt blunder) hence why I don't post the all of the "average WRX'r" cliches that have become very old. The same can be said about most of the people of WRX I've played with, period.

My golf game sucks but I'll take the 190 yard 6 iron bet. A non-hurting wind and one ball, if I hit a 6 iron 190 yards you pay my entry. If I don't I'll pay yours.

any interest in a whoever hits their 6 iron longer gets a free round? i'm sure we could get a few in on this. Would probably have to set some rules on what constitutes a 6 iron though

True dat. My blades have a 33.5° 6 iron. I'd have to crank it down to 27-28° to match some of the modern irons. I guess that's why my 6 iron is only my 180 club.

This sounds like a great idea, but I agree with someone above, let's not discount a lot of the other members by making it play to scratch only, have some flights and try to get as many as possible. 0-7hc flight, 8-15, 16-23, and 23-30...you need a central location with 2 courses that isn't absolutely ridiculous in price...Maybe Barton Creek in Austin? You could take the first 240 people, 120 on each course, then switch the next day. That's 60 people per flight. The Woodlands Resort in Texas would also work. Some of the Michigan resorts would also work depending on time of year.

I'd be interested depending on location obviously. With young kids it would have to be within driving distance for me.

This had some steam last year when I WAS a tournament coordinator in Orlando. I am no longer in the golf biz, and at the time the mods sent me an emails saying something similar to "I am not affiliated with WRX and cannot use WRX its name or the forum to communicate/plan an event that was not WRX sanctions" obviously this is a revenue/branding issue and I was more than willing to work with them, but never got a call back from them. I gave up.. good luck to the rest of you, if something like this comes to fruition then I am there.
