Ha, no kidding about that. Frustrating. I went with my new found distances, trusted it, and hit better approach shots. Beat my score by 3 from last week.

Kudos to you on the best round! Keep it up, you're a good stick!

I'm putting together my 3rd annual Kentucky NASCAR Race/Golf weekend in July.

My plan is to play The Virtues Club on Friday the 13th, Stonelick Hills Saturday morning then the Quarry Club Sunday afternoon on my way back to PA.

Two years ago I played only played Elks Run. Last year i teed it up at Harbor Links just across the boarder in Indiana then Olde Stonewall in Western PA on my way home.

The 3 I have lined up appear to be really solid. I've skipped over Stonelick the last 2 years but I feel like it's time to finally play what seems to be the best public course in the Cincinnati area.

Home Courses
- Country Club of Scranton
- Seven Oaks GC at Colgate University

Where is the best (public) short game area in Columbus? Or even within an hour drive or so. I need to nail down my chips and the driving range I go to only has a small chipping area, nowhere to practice 30-60 yard pitches.

Also - has anyone noticed that the yardage markers on the course at Raymond Memorial seem incredibly inaccurate? I'm not sure if it was just the wind yesterday, but I was over and undershooting greens by a mile.

What are your favorite courses to play between Springfield and the western-side of Columbus? Trying to find some options for meeting a friend who is in Cbus and me in Dayton...

Nat'l Golf Links, Windy Knoll, Springfield CC seem most obvious.

Have not played Springfield CC but have played Natl and Windy Knoll many times (especially WindyKnoll). Windy Knoll has a very good course layout and very good greens. The conditioning is not what it was under previous mgmt but then again they went bankrupt. National Golf links is just ok in my book..very average course. Another one to throw in is Darby Creek in Marysville. Been a while since I played it but its not a bad track either.

Springfield CC is really solid. Its a good old school Ross track. Great conditions and pretty darn tough. That would be a really good meeting spot. But I believe it's fully private...

I’ve not played Stonelick yet this year but I played the Virtues on Wed prior to heading to Memorial on Thursday. The Virtues was in fantastic condition. Great place.

Got out to Valley View GC this evening - farther than I thought it was, but fun course.

What're the best (public) courses in the state in terms of interesting architecture? Bonus points for being in the Columbus area. I've played both OSU courses (no more access, sadly), Valley View, Raymond Memorial, and the front nine of Cook's Creek so far this year. They were all pretty fun, for the most part, but I'm starting to want courses that challenge you to hit something other than driver off the tee.

I have played it around three times this year. Its been in pretty good shape (about same as last year). The only real time I have not seen it in good shape was it was being sold about 3 to 4 years ago and they let it go a little bit but the new owners have been doing a good job with it. Hole number 8 (short downhill par 3) is my nemesis hole. I never play that darn thing well...rest of course suits my eye just fine.

Have a great round and hittem straight!!!!

Thanks Frolich. Is 8 that severe downhill that looks like its 140 but plays 100? Nothing but junk between the T and green and woods behind that slope downhill? Yeah, Ive been all of those places, lol.

Thats the one. I shot a 77 there the day after you and I played Walden and doubled that damn thing. I am so afraid to nuke it off the back of the green that I always end up bailing out mentally and end up on the hill...or short...or in the trees. I HATE YOU HOLE!!!!!! :angry2: :D

Hope you have a great round and birdie that hole!!!!!!

A few suggestions off the top of my head: Denison Golf Club in Granville, The Virtues in Nashport, Champions in Columbus, Lancaster CC in Lancaster (you can most likely get on there with a phone call, not sure about condition but it's a Donald Ross course), Eagle Sticks in Zanesville, New Albany Links in New Albany, Links at Echo Springs in Johnstown (not sure about condition), Apple Valley in Mt. Vernon, Blacklick in Reynoldsburg, Westchester in Canal Winchester, Cumberland Trail in Pataskala.
