I tried some Old Forester Birthday and some Bookers at a whiskey bar a couple weeks ago. While they were both good I think I liked the Old Forester better. Hard to have a real opinion after just one glass of each though.

Anyone see the episode of Turtleman where he catches 3 opossums who decided to take roost inside of the warehouse at Buffalo Trace? Ended up climbing up on the barrels and catching them with his bare hands.

Picked up a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel: Barrel Strength... I didn't love it at first... but it's growing on me.

On the rocks, the 120 proof really mellows out. Nice depth of flavor, I'm actually really coming to like it.

Anyone going to hunt down any of the Fall releases: BT Antique, Pappy or Four Roses LE Small Batch?

I've had Pappy before so my focus will be on the others - I hear the FRSB - LE was awesome last year

blanton's is clearly the winner of those bourbons listed here...but there is one better. had a glass at a nice little restaurant here in MHK. any of you guys ever come my way, I'll buy you a glass, otherwise i'm not sharing the name, too small production and too hard to find for everyone to know about it.

I'm on the hunt for the Antique Collection... I'm done with Pappy.

Samm: PM me the name of the bourbon... I'm curious. I won't reveal your secret.

My initial thought is Breckenridge. I had it when it first came out and it was amazing. I've heard they have been bought out since and the quality varies wildly from bottle to bottle.

Grabbed a bottle of the George T Stagg Jr that was released - 134 proof. It'll definitely need some water or a cube or 2.

The place also had a Black Maple Hill - had a glass last night. Very smooth, no burn, sweet but not all that to it depth wise. If it was priced cheaper it would be real good but at $45 not sure it's worth grabbing another bottle.

Anyone have any of these 2 - how were they for you.

I missed the Stagg Jr. release... from what I've read, I didn't miss much.

Picked up a bottle of Old Fo Birthday. It's excellent.

Also picked up a bottle of Weller 12. Probably the best $25 you can spend on bourbon. It's the exact same mashbill as Pappy, aged in the same place, by the same people. It's REALLY good.

Also have some Ancient Ancient Age. It's being discontinued. It's also a great pour.

Just tried Wathens Kentucky Bourbon for the first time the other day. 94 proof and pretty smooth. Recently I have been drinking a lot of Woodford Reserve. If I am feeling cheap, I buy Evan Williams.

I'm waiting anxiously for the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection... really want the Stagg and Weller. We will see how it goes.

Been on a huge Weller kick, but I'm going to move back to Rye bourbons... probably pick up a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel next time I'm buying.

will do, it's the special reserve so it's a little pricey here (alcohol is ridiculous in quebec). I had a bottle of red opened so didn't want to waste it. Next night i need to get my drink on i'm going to check it out

Blanton's is solid, a bit on the pricey side but it is liquid candy.

Picked up some Old Fo Birthday - good stuff right there. Also grabbed some FR LE Small Batch - I can see why it was bourbon of the year last year. Although for the $ it's high. There are plenty of good bourbons in that 25 range (weller 12 and Four roses) that make it hard to justify paying more.

Word on the street is that $26,000 dollars of Pappy Van Winkle was stolen from the distillery. Looks to be an inside job. They are offering a reward for information.

hooked on angel's envy rye right now, kinda pricey at $70, but very different from the usual whikey fare; as for the old pappy story, considering it is going for $60/shot in Manhattan, is $26k really even a story? ;-)

Tried the Elijah Craig 12yr this weekend. $28 in Ohio. Sipped it all (with help!), didn't mix a drop. Tasty and a good value.
