Jeff-Jack's Single Barrel is a quality offering. Also a fan of the basic JD. As far as glassware...Don't they come in the necessary glassware? :derisive: . Had some Basil Hayden's last week. Good, kind of soft an caramely, but kept waiting for a finish that never came (no bite). Not bad, just not what I'm used to. Keeping the Weller's 12 in stock now, current favorite.

I'm the one that's kinda stuck on my Jefferson's Reserve (been rotating between that and several scotches), trying to also rotate other bourbons mentioned here. Tried Bulleit cpl months ago, good bourbon, just alittle mediciny taste to me, Specs was out of JR this eve (normally have everything), had to try the FRSB Myhero's been recommending (the JDSB Jeff recommends is next).
Really good bourbon, I can see why you like it, especially for $32, smooth with a great taste, will buy again! I think I like the JR alittle better than others bc of the more vanilla (love Vanilla) with the caramel, actually want to try the regular cheaper Jefferson's as I hear it's vanilly (never make it on a whiskey review forum, lol). I've been told I'd like Blantons for the same reason, gonna try that after the JDSB, but this eve, I'm enjoying sipping the FRSB.

Jefferson's Reserve is on my to try list... I'm a fan of vanilla, so it sounds up my alley.

I will pick up a bottle soonish (read: probably tomorrow).

I don't really focus on finding the flavors of what I'm drinking... I probably need to start.

Grabbed a Jefferson Reserve 17 year over the weekend - wow, that is so tasty stuff. Very Pappyish - like the 15/20.

The bottle's label states this is a wheated bourbon and is from the stitzel weller barrels - just like the pappy stuff apparently.

Yeah, it's supposedly the same thing... I haven't spent the $100 on the bottle.

I did spend $11 on a bottle of Heaven Hill.

Did you get to try the Jefferson's Reserve yet (not the 17)? I was interested in what you thought about it.

No, not yet... thought about it today but bought the Heaven Hill instead.

My current goal is to find a ~$10 bottle that I like.

Next time I get a $30 bottle, I will pick up Jefferson's Reserve.

Benchmark No 8 is not bad for mixing. 90 points from wine Enthusiast and a few bloggers gave it good reviews. Warning: DO NOT DRINK TOO MANY! You will know you drank rot gut.

There was a promo going on in the local store - 20% all spirits and wines. The JR 17 year was too hard to resist. I also ended grabbing Weller 12 year and some Old Forester to try. Looking forward to tryig the Old Foresters as well - i hear good things about it. Has anyone had/liked?

Old Forester Signature is my current go to cheap bourbon... here in KY it's 29 for a 1.75 L, and it's 100 proof... consider your buck banged.

I think they make an excellent product... I enjoyed the Weller 12, but won't rush out to buy another bottle.

I'm waiting for the fall releases by Buffalo Trace to spend more than $40 a bottle.

Let me tell you a little story about a $12 bourbon (1 liter, 100 proof).

It's decent... I think it's going to be the "well" bourbon in the Hope household.

Have you tried ancient ancient age 10 year? Pretty nice for the price. Also a fan of very old Barton at that price range.

Finishing up the bottle of Jefferson's Very Small Batch. There is something unique about the finish, a flavor I can't quite put my finger on. Nutty?

Went to the store today with the intent of picking up a bottle of the Elijah Craig 12 yr but they were out. Came home with a bottle of Russell's Reserve Small Batch 10 year old. Will be giving it a taste this evening.

I don't understand.

Don't you drink bourbon after you just lost your job, wife or you're about to go to the army to fight the huns?

Haven't all bar brawls started with drinking bourbon?

Sipping bourbon? Mixing bourbon?

This scotch drinker has to look into this more...
[/quote] Ha! I know your just joshing, but I drink both, more Scotch the Bourbon previously (70/30), but lately its more Bourbon, probably cause I'm enjoying trying the brands I've never tried. Always considered that most Bourbons are the same for the most part, always bought the same but experiented with Scotch, but I was incorrect, a lot of distinct flavors with the different brands of Bourbon, lots. Always have a bottle of both.

Maker's Mark and Ginger Ale... order it at a bar sometime (where they have actual ginger ale)... it's like a rum and coke. Just a perfect pairing.

I also started making myself hybrid mint juleps over the weekend... mint + lime + bourbon + soda = Julephito?

Wow, the Russell's Reserve was pretty hot (is that a good description?), a lot more 'burn.' Could it be the higher proof? Much more so than the Buffalo Trace or the Jefferson's, or even the Rittenhouse Rye which is 100 proof. I enjoyed sipping all of those neat, but the Russell's was pretty tough.

Last summer, I drank quite a bit of Jack Daniels on the rocks at the beach house after dinner. Those fumes of bourbony goodness after a day in the sun

Smells like...victory.

Generally, I like decent whiskey, scotch or bourbon, since it doesnst I've me a hangover.

But I don't mix with anything but a splash of water or seltzer (seltzer on the great occasion I am drinking at lunch time).

Mint Julep for The Derby is a *cliche* but a must.

That looks interesting... I'm not much into scotch, it just doesn't do it for me... I think if I gave it enough time, I could come to love it, though.

My bottle of Heaven Hill is dwindling. It was well worth the $12 (liter and 100 proof).

I'm going to give some other cheap bourbons a try soon. WIth a baby on the way, I need to get my booze as cheap as possible. it's called good parenting.
