Top 5 Courses You Have Played

Recommended Posts

After playing Forest Creek in Pinehurst this summer, I can't put together a list anymore. It tops all of the few good courses I've played by a long margin.

..Played both courses last year and have to agree. Awesome.Along with Pine Needles, Mid Pines and Tobacco Road and Dormie

Holy 11 years ago! It is a great course. Wish I could go play it again sometime.

I'm fairly cash poor and have only been playing a couple years, so I never thought I could properly contribute to this thread. After a couple of great additions last week though, I finally have five that I can list here:

#1 - Reflection Bay in Henderson NV (I live in Vegas, and I truly think this is the nicest run here, that I can afford at least. I've played it three times, and I LOVE it more with every double I get there.)

#2 - Wente Vineyards in Livermore CA (All I can say is that this was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and the fact that it was a fantastic golf course was icing on the cake.)

#3 - Half Moon Bay (Ocean Course) in CA (Such a great experience through and through. Standing on 16 is maybe the best view I've personally experienced on a golf course.)

#4 - Wolf Creek in Mesquite NV (There's not much I can say that hasn't been said already. It's crazy, but outstanding)

#5 - Fossil Trace in Golden CO (I wanted so badly to put a proper mountain course on this list, and Bear Dance almost was it. However, Fossil Trace was more of the complete package for me.)

I'm sure this little list will change as I get to play more amazing courses, but for now, these are what I got.

  • 4 weeks later...

I dont travel too often so my list will be Michigan heavy:

1) Arcadia Bluffs: Fairly easy course with huge fairways and greens. Views are to die for.

2) Oakland Hills South: So much history and very challenging.

3) Oakland Hills North: Some say it is better than the south and I can see why. Still, the South's history is what trumps the north for me.

4) Bloomfield Hills Country Club: Actually worked here for roughly 6 summers. Awesome golf course and club. Membership as a whole is fantastic for how rich some of these guys are. They have done some major work throughout the years I worked there which included major tree removal, clubhouse renovation, and new greens. The greens died off when Michigan had that record breaking winter (think 3 years ago?). Last summer the greens finally began to grow in fully and smooth out. Tons of members from other clubs and from other states stated they were the best greens they have ever played on. Which was fascinating to hear seeing that some of the members belonged to crystal downs (MI), Whisper Rock (AZ), Seminole (FL), and yes even Augusta (Dont think I need to clarify which state thats in  .)

5) Boyne Highlands Resort: The Heather, Hills, and Bay Harbor

I'm lucky and get to visit golf courses in Europe and the Middle East for work so here's my top 5! (Not in order)

1. Al Zorah GC - UAE - if you haven't seen photos of this place then google it!

2. Monte Rei - Portugal

3. Let Golf National - France

4. Castle Course - St Andrews

5. El Cameleon at Mayakoba - Mexico (kind of breaks the trend from above!)

I could go on!

Top 5 for me would be:

1. Cypress Point

2. Pebble

3. Muirfield Village

4. Kapalua plantation

5. Double Eagle

5b. Forest Dunes (had to throw this on here because it's probably my favorite layout to play just because it's a fun course).

I have tee times at Whistling Straits - Striats, Erin Hills, Arcadia Bluffs and The Ocean Course this year so hopefully this list change a little.

Ok so I am going to up this list after playing in Kohler and at Arcadia in the last couple of weeks.

Top 5 for me would be:

1. Cypress Point

2. Pebble Beach

3. Muirfield Village

4. Arcadia Bluffs

5. Kapalua - Plantation

Honorable Mentions

Whistling Straits - Straits, Forest Dunes, Spyglass, Double Eagle, Scioto CC, Erin Hills.

I also want to add in, my favorite course to play is Forest Dunes. I simply love the layout of the place. There isn't a hole on the entire course that I dislike. But it doesn't have the views and overall experience/prestige that comes with walking the fairways of CP, PB, MV and some others. It's just plain a well designed, fun to play course that is in immaculate condition.

It's been 3 years.. so let's update it

1. Cypress Pt

2. Pebble

3. Pacific Dunes

4. Muirfield Village

5. The Ocean Course

That's a solid list. Played all 5 of your public lists and I'm surprised Doral made it given some of the others you've played. I'm assuming you played post-reno.

I've also got about 3-4 of your private courses on my bucket list. Hoping to find a way to knock some of them off.

This is tough. I'm going to go for the 5 I enjoyed the most rather than the ones I thought were necessarily the best or highest ranked.

- Monte Rei, Portugal

- Sunningdale Old

- Shadow Creek, Las Vegas

- Whistling Straits, Wisconsin

- Fancourt Links, South Africa

Honourable mentions for St Andrews Old, Pebble Beach and Carnoustie. Whilst they are incredible courses I had more fun at the five I mentioned.

Biggest disappointments:

Wentworth West

Troon

Royal County Down

Torrey Pines South

PXG Gen 2 X MCA Diamana BF
Callaway Epic 15* GD AD I
Callaway Epic Hybrid 20* GD AD I
Mizuno JPX 900 Forged/ Hot Metal Combo 5-9
Ping Glide 2.0 46/50/54/58
Scotty Cameron Circa 5
Bridgestone BX
