Taylormade V-Steel: Band of Brothers

Hey you don't have to sell me. Honestly, I was looking for validation only because I haven't felt anything new is better enough to justify replacing my fw spot. Albeit it's not a V steel. I've just had the itch you know. Been thinking about tinkering with shaft anyway but just keep hitting it high and straight from just about anywhere.

If V-Steel fairways are so great (and I think they are -- I have three) why doesn't TaylorMade reissue them? They could paint the heads different colors and put a new shaft in it if the marketing department needed something "new" to sell. Come to think of it, why don't more club-makers re-introduce "updated" classic clubs. They do it with putters. New Anser-style putters aren't much different from the originals. How many people would buy a 2017 V-Steel 3-wood?

Ping XG wedges come to mind. They should have done the whole set of Eye 2s XG - that would have been cool.

Anyone use a 13* Tour Spoon off the tee as a "control" driver?

Have the V-Steel 4 wood, seven and nine and LOVE them. The 4, with a steel shaft cut down to 41.5" isn't really long enough to be an alt-driver. Thinking about looking for a T/S for the job.

I have the 13* T/S with a Purple Ice 85X, built at 42.5". Hit a tee shot 310 yards with it one time (slightly downhill on baked fairways, but I usually skip that part when telling the story). I'm not a TM fanboy--more of a hater--but their FWs for a while, and especially their spoons, were excellent.

Actually they did around 2008. That "updated" V-Steel had a removable weight in the back of the sole. IMO, a classic lesson in fixing what wasn't broke.

In 2014, I tried the 15* SLDR 3W and struggled with it. It was't nearly as easy to hit as my V-Steel. Tried the 17* 3HL for awhile before returning to my trusty 13* V-Steel T/S in 2015. Interesting that the 2004 13* V-Steel T/S, (Tour spoon), is so much easier to hit than the much newer 15* SLDR 3-wood. In fact, I found the 13* V-Steel T/S every bit as easy to hit as the much higher-lofted 17* SLDR 3HL, despite the loft difference of 4*. Naturally the 13* V-Steel T/S provides greater distance.

For me, it was a waste of money to try and replace my V-Steel with something newer in 2014. This is one case when newer is simply NOT better. Guess TM broke the mold after releasing the V-Steels. There is just something very special about the V-Steel's design that makes it much easier to hit well consistently compared to other FW's, whether from TM, or another brand.

While there is no 'perfect' club, the V-Steel must be as close to perfect as it gets!

Cannot get my DG S300 shaft back into my V steel 5 wood even with a shim, any advice?????

What do you mean?

Sand paper? Drill out the old epoxy from inside the shaft as well.

If it is a Retail V-Steel, then it was made with a .350 hosel. Tour models have a .335 hosel.

So you pulled the s300 and you're attempting to put the same exact shaft back in and it wont fit? Or are you using a different s300 shaft? Have you made sure to prep both the shaft and the inside of the hosel well?

Whats the hosel diameter for the head? Thought it was 3.50 but seems like 3.70 since my 3.50 tip shaft wont fit

Post above says it's likely a .350.

I've been in this situation many time. Sanding is all it comes down to if you have a .350 male tip and it won't fit into a .350 female hossel. There has to be residue - or you just flat out haven't prepped the shaft tip properly.

Played 36 holes yesterday with my newly acquired 7 wood paint break. I'm shocked how good this club is! Being a massive club hoe I can't believe i've never tried a v steel before. My 3 hybrid has no chance of staying in the bag. This 7 wood is that good!

Welcome to the club brother.

Yeah it's really weird, pulled a S300 out of the head to replace the ferrule since it was wrecked, now going to put t back in and the hosel is way too wide for the shaft. Don't get it, anyone recommend a good steel shaft that would fit on the .350 head?

I would take the club head to your local golf shop and have them check the head for damage. What you're explaining makes no sense unless you reamed the head out yourself. if in fact the hosel is now .370 you can still use your old shaft (if you want) with a shim.

Same here! Have never gotten along with hybrids and love my 7 wood V-steel with S300.

Love the small head and how it cuts through the rough!

I stopped in golf galaxy tonight and what did they have sitting on the used rack? A V-Steel TS with a Blueboard 103 in it. The best part about it was the price. $9.99.
