Taylormade V-Steel: Band of Brothers

I picked one up today in mint shape for $20 in my pro shop. Stock regular shaft, but I've been combing through this thread looking for shaft suggestions. Trying to keep it cheap and was thinking V2 or NV as others suggested. I have a PX 6.0 pull from a X hot 3 wood, but I'm sure its too light...even though I'd like to try it for the cheap aspect of it.

This thread is making me feel like the Lone Ranger.

I bought a 15* V Steel 3 wood in way above average condition a couple of years ago and reshafted it with a Matrix Red Tie 6Q3 Xstiff and it has been a disappointment for me. I haven't felt comfortable enough with the driving range performance of this club to take it to the course and it's making me feel like a failure when so many praise this club!!!!! And no one wants to be a failure.

What am I doing wrong/missing with this clubhead? P.S.- 4 handy

Anyone have any shaft suggestions? I have one of the paint break 4 woods but the stock stiff has always been whippy for me. I'd like to throw something better in there and bring her back to life. I've seen the purple ice mentioned but don't even know if I could find one of those. I'm wondering how a proforce v2 would work out.

I used to game a tour issue V Steel 3 wood with a Proforce v2 75 and it was awesome. No idea why I ever sold the thing, haven't found anything better since.

I hear what you are saying but........ my current gamer is TM Stage 2 TS with a RIP Alpha 65 XStiff and it is sweetness over and over again. Previous 3 wood and current 5 wood also carry 65-70g Xstiff shafts and they are working fine.

Not getting the magic.

Okay. I copied this thread and sent it over to Taylormade. I understand that technology has forced us to move forward but if Taylormade would be prepared to make this V-Steels available again, how many of you that posted here would be willing to pre order one?

Yes please

My first v steel has arrived and j couldn't wait to get to the range with it. I love the small compact look. I must say o don't think I've ever swung a FW with this kind of turf interaction. I got it for 19.99 and boy was it a great purchase. It has a all black mas 2 stock shaft.

I will try it during a round with my ball to see if I want to re shaft by the sound and feel are great so far. Seemed to fly a tad high with little roll which isn't bad but I would like to see a little roll.

How does it perform with a cheapie pro launch blue / red shaft or V2?

Playing diamana D+ white 70g stiff in my 915 and a 95g project X 6.5 tip stiff in my 910 hybrid. It's a 13 loft so looking for something slightly higher launch. Any suggestions??
The new Diamana S+ is a great high launch shaft that still feels stable. They are every bit as good as the OG Blueboard at a quarter of the price. Find a pull from a 915f and you will be set.

Could someone also tell me what tip diameter the V Steel holds. Don't want to shim or anything like. I've had a couple club heads come straight off the shaft after the ball because shaft tips were too small for the club head.

Bought a used 5 wood off the bay for $20. I've been a hybrid guy since I started golfing and only had one other 5 wood, an old school Callaway Great Big Bertha warbird and I remember hitting it well. I'm kinda scared that it won't live up to the hype but for $20, I'll try anything...

Trimmed my V-steel 7W and 9W 1/2 inch last night to close the gap with my 5 iron and put them both in the bag, replacing 3 and 4 hybrids. Took them out for a ride today.

My buddies ask me why I brought my wife's clubs. Ha, ha.

Stuck three greens with the lady clubs -- a second shot on short par 5 approach, a par 4 and an 18th hole par 3 -- with high, almost pop-up fades. On the 180-yard, downhill par 3, I teed the ball a little high and when it hit the green pin high, it spun back three feet. I've never seen that before with a wood or a hybrid. I have a hard time getting my Ping Lob wedge to spin back on greens.

Anyway... just a V-Steel success story. The half-inch trim seems to have improved my accuracy (just 1/2 inch?) and, for some reason, increased the backspin a lot. I didn't expect much change other than a loss of 5-10 yards. Just one outing, so who knows? Loved giving it back to my buddies though, who'll still never be caught dead carrying a 9-wood. I'm on the lookout for an 11! (Just kidding.) Seems to me that hybrids were invented to protect the egos of guys who can't hit their 4 irons but won't bag a 9 wood. I'm keeping my hybrids for certain courses and climates, but the 21* and 24* V-Steels are money. The 4 wood is great too.

Reading up a little on the significance of a 1/2" shorter fairway shaft...

Tom Wishon: "But don’t just think shorter drivers for better shot consistency. Think shorter fairway woods, too. The old fairway wood length standards were 43 inches for a 3 wood, 42.5 inches for a 4 wood, 42 inches for a 5 wood and 41 inches for a 7 wood. Golfers should consider using fairway woods that are a half inch to a full inch shorter than that if they do not possess most of the above ideal swing tempo/release characteristics. You’d be amazed at the improvement in shot consistency from shorter fairway woods."

... Yes. I am amazed.

This isn't a real timely response, but if you can find it, a Purple Ice 85X is magic in that club.

So glad to be a part of the "Band of Brothers". Not sure what took me so long. I've tried everything! These are just beautiful! No bs'ing around great clubs. Maybe it's the head weight combined with the sole that make these just amazing sticks!

I picked up a lh 7 wood. Are the headweights the normal for fw (3w= 210 gm, 5w=220 gm, 7w = 230 gm, 9w = 240gm) ? Wish they made the 9w in lh.
