Taylormade V-Steel: Band of Brothers

never should of sold my 4w with GD Pro lite shaft in it. BUT, recently picked up 5 wood to game again. I know the purple ice shaft has been discussed but impossible to find, anyone care to make a list of some other good shafts that fit in this club for cheap?

There's one on the auction site right now, as you described it.

How will the NV75 in a 15 degree head differ from a NV85?

Everyone seems to like the NV85 in their 15 degrees here, but how will the Aldila NV75 work in it? That's the shaft I have available to me.

???

Okay scratch those shafts I asked about. I did a little research and they are not a good fit.

I do want to know about the V2 stiff and possibly UST iRod stiff flex hybrid fairway.

Anyone have feedback on those?

I'm looking at getting a V-steel 7w, and then reshafting it. Something like a Grafalloy Blue might be good as I want an accurate, controllable fairway-finder that I can also use to go for greens on some par-5s.

Incidentally, the shop I was browsing yesterday also has a V-steel 9w (24*). That was sort of tempting, too...

Sad. All these posters and no feedback. Anyway. I threw the Irod stiff in my 15 degree - I'll be finding out soon (perhaps tomorrow as I wait for epoxy dry) if it's an appropriate shaft for that particular head and loft...

Is the feeling the V steel is still better performance wise than current few woods?

I'd like to know this as well. Can get a like new XR Pro FW for about $60. VSteels on the bay are around $40 after shipping.

I saw some people say that there are longer and more forgiving fairway woods out there, so why stick with these?

Well, I can't speak for everyone here, but for me, fairway woods aren't all about length. My 4w I like because it goes a certain distance which is long enough to be a step down from my driver. There are probably longer 4w out there, but I don't feel I need them.

Also, the feeling of the V-steel is great, which means that some people are prepared to sacrifice forgiveness for it. Finally, I think the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is nowhere more true than with fairway woods.

*disclaimer: my fairway wood is actually an r9. I only have the V-steel 4w as backup

XR Pro was released Jan 2015, is down to $60?, yet 15 year old V Steel still gets $40? I have the 5 & 7 (wish they had made the 9 in LH too), it is just has a nice feel.

I drank the Kool-Aid, picked up a 5 wood in excellent shape for $20 in the pro shop before my round this weekend for my travel bag.

Its very long and easy to hit from the fairway and rough. I like it more than my gamer 3-wood (906f4) and its almost as long.

It has a steel shaft in it, I don't know what flex it is but it feels good and have no plans to change it.

There may be longer fairway woods out there, but some will tell you that the V Steels were the first of the hot fairway woods. They don't push the envelop as much as the new ones do, but it's close enough. The great thing about the V Steels is the weight of the clubhead (it actually has some heft to it), and the shape of the sole. The V Steel can be easily hit off the tee, the deck, and out of the rough with that sole shape. There may not be a better club off all three of those lies that still hits it pretty darn near as long as today's hottest offerings.

I have passed on longer 3 woods such as the X Hot and Tour Edge Exotics in favor of the V- steel. The feel and sound is awesome on the V-steel.

Yep, feel, look, and sound make it a satisfying club to hit. FW woods are about hitting a specific distance, not how far you can hit it.

I wish TM had made a V Steel Driver.

The did, it was called the TaylorMade 200 Steel!

Well the V-Steel 7 wood arrived yesterday. I grabbed it and instantly headed to the course. The first hole is a straight away par 4 about 360. I pulled it out and first swing was a baby draw about 210. I could not believe how amazing this club sounded and felt. After that it was all pretty draws unless I really tried to fade it. Unbelievable. I cant believe I have missed out on this for so long.

I have stuck with the vsteel 5w because it works. I got on the fairway wood ho-go-round for a few seasons. I couldnt find anything that gave me a mix of accuracy and distance off the tee and off the deck. The VSteel gives me both in a wide variety of situations. Now that I've found something that works I'm extremely hesitant to try anything else. The sole gives me the best turf interaction (for my swing) out of a variety of lies that I have ever tried. The amount of forgiveness for the head size is actually pretty good. I probably could find a newer fairway that would give me better distance or forgiveness, but at what cost of time and money? It took me 2 years to find the vsteel. Plus, I dont know that the amount of distance or forgiveness gained would be large enough to warrant the change.

The only other fairway wood that I have found that I might move from the VSteel is the Adams Fast 10. It has a similar size and sole shape. (which is why I have 13, 15, and 18* heads sitting in a box in my garage. :) ) They can be had for <$20 on ebay right now.

200 steel was part of the 200 series line of woods (which some people also really liked...). I don't recall the 200 series driver being a compliment to the V Steel fairway woods.

For the time frame when the V Steel was released, the R510, 540 & 580 were released. I may try a R540 as an experiment this year, they are cheap.

And I was scrounging the clearance bins at Carl's Golfland in SE MI last weekend. Found a steel shaft V Steel 3 wood for $14.99, they were running a 20% all prices too, so walked out for $12.71 with sales tax. I'll give it a try and if the steel is to heavy, reshaft with the MAS2 for V Steel as in my 5 & 7. Dang I wish TM had also made the 9 wood in LH.

Awesome pickup! A playing partner of mine has a V-Steel 5W with a steel shaft and he just loves it - he left the steel shaft in it to give it a try and he just bombs it straight (You can actually hear him mutter "Wow" every time he connects!)

LOL. Nice pickup. Saw that club in the bins a couple of weeks ago. Almost picked it up for a bud that's a lefty. But he doesn't like to play "used" golf clubs. Figured no sense unnecessarily helping his game.

V Steel 3W & 5W user here. Shopping for a 7W. Best fairways I've ever played. And its not even close.
