Taylormade V-Steel: Band of Brothers

The good ol V steel 5 wood does it again. Par 3, 190 into the wind (playing 215, my standard 5 wood). Have not hit the club in months but played for my 10 yard draw and popped it to 10 feet. Its like an old friend.

I need a 4 wood to complete the set.

If you find them in bad shape, just take them somewhere and get them sand blasted. They come out great. It also takes a lot of the scratches and crap out of them. I did it with my 3 and 5 wood heads. Here is what the 3 wood looked like when finished:

How durable is the club after sandblasting? Did you put anything on for a finish? I am thinking about re-doing my V Steel woods.

That looks spectacular. I imagine the face can be left alone and the rest sandblasted, which I might like more. Either way, looks awesome

I've played a V-Steel 3 wood for years. I even bought another slightly used one on Ebay just to have as a back up. In the past 6 years, I've tried replacing it 3 times, the latest with a M2. I ended up selling them and keeping my V-Steel in the bag.

Why is the V-Steel so damn good and why won't TM release an updated version. We should all send TM an email and tell them to bring back the greatest fairway wood ever made. Keep the sole design, give it some fresh paint and an adjustable shaft and then call it a day.

Seriously though, I love my V-Steel. It's the only club in my bag, I never have a bad shot with.

After refinishing my Scotty putter I decided to follow chch3's lead and refinish the V-Steel 3 wood I purchased. Below are before, sandblasted and brushed nickel photos.

Thought I'd give this one a bump.

Currently have a M2 fairway and struggling with it off the fairway.

Has anyone gone from a modern M2/M1 and then back to a V-Steel? Any significant distance loss?

I have a M2 HL. I've played around with the M2 vs the VSteel. The VSteel really looks good at address. I like the smaller head shape. However, that is about the only place where the VSteel wins over the M2 for me. The M2 launches higher and father than the VSteel for me. The forgiveness on off center hits is also better.

(YMMV)

Long time lurker. Recently purchased a blueboard shaft to put in my 4 wood vsteel. Wanted to know if tipping for a 4 wood should be the same as tipping for a 3 or 5 wood?

How much should I tip for this 4 wood on this shaft?

It depends on the length and head weight that you want to build it at. In general, if you want to build it shorter....which would generally require more head weight, then go with a 5 wood trim. If you want to keep it longish, then a 3 wood trim or just a 1/4" less would be good

Thanks! Sounds like a shaft change is in order for me. Found a Aldila Proto By You 60S shaft. The Black Tie was more than I can handle.

The third or fourth one I've found at Goodwill.

I am struggling with my swing right now and I'm think about throwing my 15 with Irod stiff in the bag for a change of pace.

I just got a RIP Phenom 80S .335 to put in my v steel 7wd paint break.

Is the Tour model more open at address? I love my V-steel 7w. So much more reliable that a hybrid. I hit some great shots with my hybrid, but also some real shockers. With the 7w, I hit some great shots and some not so great shots, but no shockers.

Perhaps the best Fairway sole plate ever! Just easier to hit than the other sole designs due to better turf interaction!

After hitting the 4 and 7 woods I'm a believer - the 7 wood is a definite keeper - I just hit it so strait and right around 215 yards.

I didn't hit the 4 wood as much and I think I'll have to spend a little range time with the 4 and my old 3 wood.

Anyone who makes it through 27 pages and hasn't made up there mind - just find some with the correct shaft and give them a try, you'll be glad you did!

If you have access to a sandblaster it's easy to do. I've done quite a few of theses including a Scotty putter I refurbished. It's just a hobby of mine.
