After refinishing my Scotty putter I decided to follow chch3's lead and refinish the V-Steel 3 wood I purchased. Below are before, sandblasted and brushed nickel photos.

Just curious...did you use sand for that, glass, or what?

I don't have much use for a 5 wood but I'm thinking about getting one of these to experiment and potentially fill the 14th and final spot in my bag. I have no idea what shaft took look for, for this club.

I recently put an Aldila VS Proto 70X in a V Steal 5 wood and cut it down to 42" slapped some lead tape on the bottom and its night and day compared to the stock shaft. Got the shaft for $15 on rock bottm golf

Just got a new (used) shaft for my V-steel 4w to sort of match my 7w. The 7w has a Quadratic Fire RB 65g SX, and the 4w now has a Quadratic Fire RB 74g SX; I would prefer that to be the other way round, but this shaft is not easy to find second hand at a reasonable price, so beggars can't be choosers.

All shafted up and now I just need to see if it can kick my trusty R9 4w out of the bag,

Just an update on the above combination: it's awesome. The r9 is out of the bag, and the V-steel in. Both are long, both are workable, both have nice ball flight. The r9 feels a tad easier off the tee, but I feel more confidence with the V-steel off the deck. The deciding factor was feel. A nutted V-steel is unbeatable.

I never partook of the V-Steel bonanza in its initial run. Have seen the rumblings of its sheer awesome, felt I should some day investigate. Currently less than enthralled with the 3wood slot in my bag, was poking around Global Golf, saw a V-Steel 15° for an extremely reasonable price. Bought it.

Put a Rifle shaft in to test, have been less than enthralled. But, have had a great many squirrelly results with steel shafted fairway woods... thinking about putting something else in there. As it happens, I've just picked up an RIP Alpha 80; I think it might be worth a shot. :)

Amusingly, the RIP Alpha I picked up is in RBZ graphics. A bit of humor in using an RBZ shaft with a V-Steel. :pimp:

The m2 was one of the best fairway woods I've ever hit. Unfortunately it was a demo at my local club, so I just used it for a few rounds. I currently hit the callaway xr pro at 14* and that thing is long and soft feeling even w an xstiff shaft. It was sort of weird at first but I've grown to like it.

I hit the TM TP UDI 2 iron off the tee and from the fairway and picked up a 5 wood v steel at the end of last year to fill the 215-225 gap. I put a oban devotion in it and cut it down a bit. I agree with everyone in that it plays out of the rough really well and is easy to hit off the fairway. Mine is cut down a bit but I'm absolutely positive it doesn't go anywhere near as far as a well fit newer club. That's ok for me - I don't need distance with it just something reliably accurate. I wouldn't hit it off the tee as both my 2 iron and 3 wood are far superior.

Not a knock on the v steel just a reality for me.

I bet they're an excellent combo. By the way, the shafts are 'Quadra Fire Express RB' from JDM land. Awesome stuff.

Yep, I know that, you know that, but my damn autocorrect doesn't!

Every time I type in "Quadra" it becomes "Quadratic" and it really irritates me

Just recently joined the forum after reading only for a bit and wanted to chime in. Bought a 3 wood with the stock steel shaft after seeing this forum and have loved it this season since March or so. Thought about trying different shafts and scored one cheap on the bay with the original speeder 757 in x-flex. Getting a much lower ball flight and the graphite shaft crushes in distance and recently played a round hitting only it instead of a driver. I've always been a steel shafted fairway woods player but I may have found a combo to stay in the bag for a long time.

i gave my ol' V Steel 5W to a buddy who had just started golfing. (before i knew this cult). given speed on his improvement, there's no way he's gonna swing any wood in next 5 years. should i ask him to give it back to me? :D

I am fixing to add both my 3 and 5 wood back to my bag. What regular flex or soft stiff shaft would you all recommend?

I've had a V-Steel 7 wood for a few years now, and it's currently the only club in my bag with a stiff steel shaft (cut just a hair longer than my 4 iron shaft, which makes it a perfect 205-215 club). I'd like to get an X steel shaft put in it but I know the tip size is different. Any recs?

I got an r7 steel head on a whim, and it looks very similar. the turf interaction just isn't the same. the MWT rounded plates on the sole do not go through the rough as effectively as the v-steel does. back on the hunt for another 4 wood.

You can use a shim and put any .335 tip shaft you want in there
